Chapter 233: Power play

Leo

Two weeks ago,

"What the hell is wrong with you, Miller!" I screamed, trying to break free from the strong grip of my boyfriend’s arms wrapped tightly around my waist, but I failed completely.

Miller only pulled me closer into his warm embrace and attacked me with a million playful kisses all over my face.

"Oh for fuck’s sake, Miller!" I groaned loudly and tried to push him away even though I had failed earlier. I was persistent, wriggling and pressing my hands against his broad chest. It wasn’t because I didn’t want to kiss him — far from it — but because we had an important event to attend and we were already running late.

It was the big celebratory night for the Northern Avalanche. They had just won the Stanley Cup, and the CEO had decided to throw a lavish party for the teammates and important guests.

Even though Rhys and Kayden were not in attendance, we had been forced to come up with some believable lies about Kayden suddenly falling sick. The coach had also helped cover for us in the process, acting as if he already knew exactly what was happening with Kayden.

"We are supposed to be at that event in thirty minutes, but if you keep kissing me like this, it would be hard for me to focus on anything at all, which is why we should really get going now," I said, my voice a mix of frustration and reluctant affection.

"No," Miller refused stubbornly as he trailed lingering, heated kisses down my face until he reached my neck, where he started sucking gently on the sensitive skin. "You smell so good, but I know this is just your cologne. I really wished that I could smell you again, Leo. Your real scent."

That did it. The words hit me in a way that sent heat rushing through my body.

I grabbed Miller’s hand firmly and used my strength to turn him over until he was the one pinned against the brown couch in his room, my body pressing down on his.

"Oh baby, you are manhandling me," he cried out with a dramatic groan, though his eyes sparkled with clear excitement.

I scoffed but didn’t let go of him even for a second. "Remember, dear Miller, that I am the enigma here and you are only an alpha, so I am much more powerful than you are," I reminded him, my voice low and firm.

Miller scoffed back in response but said nothing more, simply looking up at me with that challenging glint in his eyes.

Thinking that he was sulking because I hadn’t let him continue kissing me freely, I freed his hand after a moment. "Alright fine, I would only release it for a moment," I told him, trying to sound casual.

Miller clapped his hands excitedly like a kid who had just won a prize and then he pulled me closer until I was comfortably seated on his lap. He turned me around smoothly so that I was facing him directly.

Due to our noticeable size difference, I looked small and almost delicate in his strong arms, but I was still far more powerful than he was in ways that mattered most.

Slowly and deliberately, I began to release my pheromones, letting them fill the air around us. The instant the room became saturated with the thick, heavy scent of bitter ink and charred sandalwood, Miller moaned deeply without me even touching him further.

"That’s a little dramatic," I muttered softly as I wrapped my hands behind his neck, my fingers playing with the short hairs there. "I don’t smell that good and..."

Miller cut me off completely with a passionate kiss on the lips. He tilted my head just enough to deepen it as he devoured my mouth, biting and sucking on my lower lip with intense hunger, as if we hadn’t already spent the entire previous night tangled together in his bed making love for hours.

One of his large hands grabbed the back of my neck possessively while the other held me firmly in place on his lap, keeping me right where he wanted me.

He kissed me so hard and thoroughly that it felt like my lips might actually bruise or fall off from the pressure. The kiss reeked of raw dominance, as if he desperately wanted to be the one fully in control, but one thing enigmas like me didn’t like — in fact, we hated it — was being dominated.

We hated it with every fiber of our being. That was exactly why the council, the government, and the whole world wanted us gone, wanted to push alphas to the very top instead and keep us suppressed.

When my body instinctively sensed Miller’s growing need to dominate me in that moment, it switched into defense mode quickly and pushed him off with a sudden, powerful surge.

Miller’s head fell back against the couch with a soft thud. His eyes widened dramatically and he stared at me completely in shock, breathing heavily.

I gasped sharply when I realized what I had just done and quickly placed a hand over my mouth in horror. "I am so sorry about that, Miller," I muttered to him, my voice trembling slightly with regret.

But Miller just burst into loud laughter, pretending that what I had done was completely alright, even though I knew deep down inside that he was quietly questioning everything. "I seriously don’t know what is happening to me lately.

My body felt your need to dominate and it just rejected you on its own. I..." I began to explain in a rush, the words tumbling out, but Miller stood up slowly and placed a gentle finger on my lips to silence me.

"It’s alright," Miller stopped me gently before I could finish pouring out all my worries. He adjusted the bow tie around his suit with careful movements and then faced me with a warm, reassuring smile on his face. "I forgot to tell you, this outfit fits you perfectly and your hair is starting to grow out nicely too."

He was clearly diverting the conversation, which told me he didn’t want to talk about the incident anymore, so I decided to let it go for now and focus on something else instead.
