SONIA’S POV

I woke up with a start when I heard a soft rapt on my door. The sound was faint but insistent, pulling me from a restless sleep filled with fragmented dreams.

My eyes blinked multiple times, until it adjusted to the light—or the darkness that seemed to have descended outside. The room was dim, the only illumination coming from a sliver of moonlight slipping through the curtains.

Sliding out of bed, I made my way to the door, my bare feet padding softly on the cool wooden floor. My heart beat a little faster, uncertainty twisting in my stomach.

As soon as I opened it, Moon fell on his knees in front of me, and grabbed my leg.

"Help me, Sonia, they’re going to kill me!" he cried out with his head buried in my leg, his voice muffled and desperate.

Confused as to what exactly was happening, I took a few seconds to gather my thoughts, my hand instinctively resting on his shoulder.

Last I remembered, I had practically told Ramon to leave me alone.

Perhaps, in my replaying the event that had happened, I fell asleep.

But before then, Moon had run away on sensing Ramon’s presence.

"What have you been doing since you left the house, Moon?" I questioned him in a worried tone, my fingers tightening slightly on his shoulder.

"I went to Lorena. She did this to me. I can’t remember what happened, but she’s the last person I remembered seeing!" He declared through thick tears, his body shaking against mine.

I was invested in what he had to say. Ever since I was awakened, I felt weird hearing her name , a sharp twist in my stomach, a prickling at the back of my neck.

Maybe she was involved in the absence of my memory too.

"What happened when you went to her? Come, tell me."

Mustering all the strength I could gather, I pulled him up, and together, we walked to the bed, my arm around his waist for support.

We sat side by side, but he hung his head, instead of keeping a straight posture, his shoulders slumped in defeat.

"What happened, Moon?" I gently shoved him so he could remember where he was.

My heart ached for him. Having to live in fear of the unknown was a terrible fate.

At any time, Ramon could seriously come fetch him. I wondered if I would be able to do anything to help him out, when it happened.

"I asked her kindly to tell me what she did to me. Then she made it look like I grabbed a hold of her, and began to scream. The guards stormed into the room, and I was only able to escape by my whiskers. I’ve been roaming around the forest ever since. I couldn’t return here for fear of running into one of the guards. It was only when the day darkened, I found the courage. Please help me, Sonia!" He cried, his voice breaking.

I felt pity for him. His predicament was so sorrowful, I couldn’t help but nurse a bleeding heart.

"You shouldn’t have to run forever, Moon. I’m certain you did nothing of what you’re being accused of. That’s why I’m going to help you even if it means losing my life in the process. But first, you have to stay calm. You also need something to eat. Why don’t you remain in my room while I go find something for you to eat?" I asked, my hand still on his shoulder.

He shook his head vigorously. "No, Sonia. I’m not hungry. I ate some wild fruits. Besides, I’m afraid that if you leave, they’ll come find me."

My eyes watered, as my pity for him heightened, the sight of his tear-streaked face tugging at something deep inside me.

"Hey," I tapped his shoulder gently, and waited for him to look at me. He took a while, but eventually did sit up. "I think you need a hug."

I pulled him into my body, and instantly felt my wolf kick, a faint flicker of warmth in my chest.

Another theory formed. I needed to feel strongly for someone else, be it love, loss, hate, or even pity, to get my wolf back.

"I thought you didn’t have your wolf?" He asked, noticing her presence at the same time I did.

But just like the other times, she was gone before I could even form a response.

"She goes and comes," I ended up saying, my voice soft.

"I’m tired, Sonia. So tired."

I hugged him even tighter, and began to hum a soft, soothing melody I remembered from my childhood. His soul needed to be soothed, even if it was just for a little while.

Rocking him gently, I closed my eyes and continued to hum, the vibrations of my voice filling the quiet room.

We were in that position, until I heard a snore.

I smiled, because I knew he would find a little bit of rest for some hours.

Slowly, I pulled away, until he dropped to the bed.

I rose to my feet, and pushed his legs in, so he could lay properly.

Carefully, I took off his shoes, and arranged them neatly by the side of the bed.

He could sleep peacefully now. He was good, and I was going to do everything in my power to help him.

I turned, and walked out of my room, into the living room.

My eyes scanned the silent room. The entire house was silent. It meant Ivy wasn’t around either.

I was going to sit on a couch, when a heavy knock sounded on the door.

I diverted my steps to the door, and opened it in hopes it was Ivy.

My lashes fluttered curiously, when I saw two wolves instead.

"Who are you?" I asked, when they kept trying to peek into the house.

"The alpha sent us to find, Moon. We have every reason to believe he’s here. Step aside, so we can fulfill the alpha’s orders," the one with dirty blonde hair said, his voice gruff.

"Have you lost your mind?" I blurted out before I could stop myself.

I had noticed myself getting fiercer by the second, and I couldn’t explain what it meant.

They looked taken aback at my outburst. They definitely were not expecting someone like that from a lowly captive.

"Are you trying to go against the orders of the alpha?" The green eyed partner asked, his tone sharp.

"Your orders, you mean? The only orders the alpha gave me was not to let anyone into the house. Not even Moon who you both know tried to kill me. Why would I let you into the house, and go against the alpha’s orders?" I lied through my teeth.

It was the only way I could keep them away.

I held my breath, and waited. I was never really a good liar, but I hoped I sounded convincing enough.

"Fine, we’ll leave. But if you even so much as sniff out Moon, don’t forget to let us know."

"I’ll do that," I said, after releasing my breath.

They went around the building, before finally leaving.

Quietly, I closed the door, and slammed back against it.

"You did well, Sonia. You did well," I muttered, beating my thumping chest.
