Chapter 360: Revelations and Repercussions

As soon as they arrived at Sun Lixia’s villa, Cen Yuhuan’s parents were on their feet, rushing to embrace their daughter. Her mother’s hands fluttered over her, checking for any sign of injury.

"Mom, I’m a doctor. I would know if I was injured," Cen Yuhuan said, a hint of exasperation in her voice.

Her mother shook her head firmly. "I demand you do a full body check-up. What if you have internal injuries?"

Cen Yuhuan sighed. "That’s impossible, Mom. They didn’t even touch us."

Li Xinjie stepped in, his voice gentle. "You should get it done, honey, to put your mother at ease."

Cen Yuhuan held her forehead in frustration. "Okay, okay. Tomorrow morning, I’ll get it done at the hospital."

Sun Lixia approached Zhang Mei, her eyes filled with concern. "You should get checked up too, just for safety."

Zhang Mei nodded, her hands instinctively cradling her swollen belly. "I was so scared for them," she admitted softly.

Sun Lixia squeezed her shoulder gently. "I know. Once you’re a mother, you always worry about the safety of your babies."

As the family fussed over the returned women, Li Chen looked around, his hand reaching for his pocket. Suddenly, his face paled. "Shit," he muttered.

Li Yanyan turned to him, concern etched on her face. "What’s wrong?"

Li Chen’s voice was tight with worry. "The pages. He... he disappeared with the pages."

Li Yanyan and Sun Lixia exchanged glances, a silent understanding passing between them. Sun Lixia turned to Li Xiaojun. "Hubby, we need to talk in private. You too, Xinjie."

Without another word, Li Yanyan, Li Chen, Li Xinjie, Sun Lixia, and Li Xiaojun headed to the study. As soon as the door was locked behind them, Sun Lixia turned to Li Chen, her face serious.

"Li Chen, I think it’s high time you tell us exactly what’s going on here. What are these pages that make people want to kill you?"

Li Chen hesitated, but Li Xiaojun pressed on. "Son, how can we help you if you don’t tell us what’s going on? That old man said you will die, that you’re the chosen one. Please, explain to us."

Li Chen took a deep breath. "You all need to sit down for this one."

As everyone took their seats, Li Chen began his tale. He explained how, a year ago, he woke up to find that the soul of an ancient God of War had transmigrated into his body. He now had two souls within him. He spoke of the pages and their connection to the Sun family bloodline, and how he was now chosen to fight a war against evil that was about to be unleashed upon the world. With a heavy heart, he described the visions he’d had of the future now that the pages were no longer in his safekeeping.

When he finished, the room was silent for a long moment. Li Yanyan was the first to speak, her voice barely above a whisper. "This..."

Li Xiaojun shook his head in disbelief. "Supernatural... something I never believed in my whole life."

Li Chen’s voice was grim as he added, "I think it’s Zhang Yiming who has the pages now."

Sun Lixia frowned. "Wait, what does he have to do with all this?"

"He’s the reincarnation of the God of War’s biggest rival," Li Chen explained. "Someone who has always been power-hungry."

Li Xinjie nodded slowly. "Well, that explains a lot. That man is a psychopath."

Sun Lixia’s face paled. "So now, he’s about to unleash demons that will kill everyone?"

Li Chen nodded solemnly. "Yes."

Li Xinjie turned to his brother, understanding dawning in his eyes. "That’s why you know ancient martial arts."

"The God of War can take over my body, but my soul is still alive," Li Chen confirmed.

Sun Lixia’s voice was barely audible. "I never thought it was this serious. So that old man was right."

Li Chen’s next words fell like a hammer in the quiet room. "I might die in the last showdown."

Li Yanyan’s response was immediate and fierce. "We won’t allow that."

Li Chen shook his head. "This is not a battle we can fight with guns and bombs, Aunt Yanyan."

Li Xiaojun leaned forward, his face set with determination. "We don’t care. Tell us what we need to do so we can help you."

"This is a battle I need to face alone," Li Chen insisted. He turned to Sun Lixia, his voice softening. "Can you take Zhang Mei to the safe house? I don’t want people using her to get to me anymore. I want her to be safe."

Sun Lixia nodded firmly. "Consider it done."

As the family began to plan, discussing strategies and safety measures, Li Chen listened silently. He appreciated their support, their unwavering loyalty, but he knew the truth. This was his fight, and his alone. He had his own plans, and there was no way he would allow them to get involved in such a dangerous situation.

As the discussion continued, Li Chen’s mind wandered to the challenges ahead. He thought of Zhang Mei and their unborn children, of the family he loved so dearly, and of the world he was destined to protect. The weight of his responsibility pressed down on him, but he stood tall under it.

"We should inform the others," Li Xinjie suggested. "They deserve to know what we’re up against."

Li Chen shook his head. "No, the fewer people who know, the safer everyone will be. This knowledge... it’s dangerous."

Sun Lixia nodded in agreement. "Li Chen’s right. We need to keep this circle small."

As the night wore on, plans were made and discarded. Security measures were discussed, safe houses were arranged, and contingencies were put in place. Through it all, Li Chen remained quiet, letting his family believe he was on board with their plans.

In reality, he was already formulating his own strategy. He knew that facing Zhang Yiming and the demonic forces he would unleash was a task he had to undertake alone. The thought of putting his family in danger was unbearable.

As dawn broke, casting a pale light through the study windows, the family finally dispersed. Li Chen made his way to the guest room where Zhang Mei was resting. He found her awake, her hands gently caressing her swollen belly.

"How are you feeling?" he asked softly, sitting beside her on the bed.

Zhang Mei managed a small smile. "Better now that we’re home. The babies have been active... I think they know we’re safe."

Li Chen placed his hand over hers, feeling the slight movements beneath. For a moment, he allowed himself to imagine a future where this was their biggest concern - the kicks and turns of their unborn children. But he knew that future was in jeopardy unless he could stop Zhang Yiming.

"Zhang Mei," he began, his voice serious. "I need you to promise me something."

She looked up at him, concern evident in her eyes. "What is it?"

"Promise me that no matter what happens, you’ll stay safe. That you’ll listen to my mother and go to the safe house when she tells you to."

Zhang Mei’s brow furrowed. "Li Chen, what’s going on? You’re scaring me."

He leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. "I just need to know that you and our children will be safe. Can you promise me that?"

After a moment’s hesitation, Zhang Mei nodded. "I promise. But you have to promise me something too."

"Anything," Li Chen said without hesitation.

"Promise me you’ll come back to us. No matter what you’re facing, promise me you’ll come back."

Li Chen felt his heart constrict. He wanted more than anything to make that promise, to assure her that he would return. But he knew the dangers that lay ahead, the very real possibility that he might not survive the coming battle.

Instead, he pulled her close, holding her as tightly as he dared. "I love you," he whispered. "More than anything in this world. Remember that, always."

As Zhang Mei drifted off to sleep, exhausted from her ordeal, Li Chen sat watching over her. His mind raced with plans and strategies, with the weight of the world quite literally on his shoulders.

Outside the room, the Sun family continued their preparations, unaware that Li Chen had already made his decision. He would face this threat alone, protecting those he loved by keeping them far from the danger.

As the new day dawned, Li Chen knew that time was running out. Zhang Yiming had the pages, and it was only a matter of time before he unleashed the ancient evil they contained. The final battle was approaching, and Li Chen had to be ready.

With one last look at his sleeping wife, Li Chen silently vowed to do whatever it took to ensure a safe future for her and their children. Even if it meant sacrificing himself in the process.

The God of War within him stirred, ready for the battle to come. Li Chen took a deep breath, steeling himself for what lay ahead. The fate of the world hung in the balance, and he was the only one who could tip the scales in favor of humanity.

As he left the room, closing the door softly behind him, Li Chen knew that the next time he saw his family, everything would have changed. For better or for worse, the world as they knew it was about to be transformed.

The final Chapter in this ancient struggle was about to be written, and Li Chen was determined to ensure it ended with the forces of good triumphant, no matter the personal cost.
