Chapter 1736: Time-Space Merchant (13)
Chuzheng put the painting into the Time-Space Exchange, and the countdown in the upper right corner increased by ten days. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
Now she has 10 days and 8 hours left.
Sigh.
Life is so hard.
[Hey, Miss, wanna splurge?]
Chuzheng: "..."
Screw off!
[Main Task: Please spend Fifty Thousand Yuan within an hour.] The King’s Account cheekily sent out the task, [Alrighty, Miss, I’m off now, good luck~]
Chuzheng: "..."
More and more I want to kill this damned thing!
Chuzheng took Xi Jing shopping to spend the Fifty Thousand Yuan, and the things in the house were almost entirely renewed.
With the Good Person Card around, spending is quick and easy.
The Good Person Card is really great.
-
Fan Lan returned home with her things, her excitement gone, leaving only anxiety and doubt.
Is this really useful?
The painting she took wasn’t worth much, only a few thousand yuan, and it was a completely worthless painting.
How could it exchange for such good stuff?
Fan Lan paced the living room, and after an hour, she dismissed the housekeeper and called her husband to come home.
He was somewhere unknown, clearly impatient, but ultimately agreed to return.
Fan Lan waited in the living room until midnight when the man came back, reeking of alcohol.
"What do you want this time?"
Fan Lan poured a glass of water from the table, swirled it around, and handed it to him: "Have some water."
The man didn’t think much, took a sip, and said, "Why did you call me back? Don’t you know I’m discussing business with a client?"
Fan Lan said nothing, just stared at him.
The man, unnerved by her gaze, handed back the cup and headed upstairs.
Just as he reached the stairs, he suddenly collapsed, tumbling down unconscious.
-
Knock knock knock—
Early in the morning, someone pounded on the door incessantly, waking Xi Jing. He groggily looked around, noticing he was back in bed, but Chuzheng was nowhere to be found.
Xi Jing had no choice but to go open the door.
Outside was the woman he had seen yesterday. Xi Jing stayed hidden behind the door, showing only his head.
Seeing him, Fan Lan urgently asked, "Where’s Miss Chuzheng?"
"I don’t know..." Xi Jing replied softly, "Seems like she went out."
"Where did she go?"
Xi Jing shook his head.
Fan Lan was in a panic: "Can you get in touch with her? I have something urgent!"
Xi Jing stared at her for a couple of seconds and then quietly said, "I’ll try..."
"Please," Fan Lan pleaded with her hands together, her face full of urgency.
Xi Jing pressed his lips together, not letting Fan Lan enter, and closed the door before picking up the phone Chuzheng had given him. He opened the contact list.
The contact list had only one number saved. Xi Jing took a breath and dialed it.
After a few rings, it was answered.
"What’s up?"
Hearing Chuzheng’s voice, Xi Jing felt slightly reassured and whispered, "Someone’s looking for you..."
"Who?"
"Just... the person from yesterday."
"Oh." Chuzheng paused: "Are you up?"
Xi Jing nodded slightly: "Yeah."
"Don’t let her in."
"I didn’t."
"Good." Chuzheng instructed over the phone: "Change your clothes first. No need to hang up."
"Okay..."
Xi Jing didn’t ask why, putting the phone aside, found his clothes, and quietly changed.
He kept glancing at the phone, feeling a bit embarrassed, so he tried to make as little noise as possible.
"Are you done?"
"Yeah, I’m done."
The girl’s voice on the other end was casual: "Tell her I’ll be back soon."
Xi Jing: "???"
Couldn’t you have just said so earlier? Why did you have to make me change clothes?
Though puzzled, Xi Jing obediently went out to relay Chuzheng’s message to Fan Lan.
Fan Lan was clearly urgent, but without reaching Chuzheng, she could only wait outside.
Gradually, more people woke up to freshen up in the corridor. With more people passing by, Fan Lan standing there drew quite a few glances.
Fan Lan was so anxious that she was breaking out in cold sweat, having no time to care about them.
A half-hour later, Chuzheng returned with her things, and Fan Lan rushed over: "I..."
Her gaze swept over the peeking young men and women nearby, and her expression stiffened instantly: "I need to talk to you, it’s urgent!"
Chuzheng glanced at her, knocked on the door twice, and Xi Jing quickly opened it, showing half of his little face. Seeing her return, he immediately opened the door wide.
Chuzheng patted his head and walked inside, with Fan Lan following close behind.
"Something happened." Unable to wait, Fan Lan started the moment she entered: "When my husband woke up, the first person he saw wasn’t me. What do I do!?"
It seemed Chuzheng didn’t hear her and first prepared breakfast, letting Xi Jing sit down to eat.
Fan Lan anxiously paced beside them, but they ignored her.
"Who did he see?"
"..." Fan Lan suddenly found it hard to speak, and after a while, squeezed out a few words: "Our dog."
Chuzheng: "..."
Fan Lan had dismissed the housekeeper but forgot about the dog.
She had just stepped out for a moment, and the dog sat beside her husband, and then...
"And then you ran out?"
"No, I knocked him out first."
"..."
"Will he fall for our dog?" Fan Lan looked desperate: "What should I do now?"
Although the first thing her husband saw wasn’t Fan Lan, it was fortunate it wasn’t a person, which would greatly lessen the impact. Moreover, Fan Lan knocked him out.
Chuzheng told Fan Lan the solution.
"Are you sure this will work?"
"If you keep dawdling, who knows who your husband will see when he wakes up."
Fan Lan: "!!!"
Fan Lan hurriedly left.
-
Noon.
The business card suddenly appeared in Chuzheng’s hand, indicating Fan Lan had taken care of her husband.
Chuzheng put away the card, used the pendant to sense Wei Yi’s location, and found he wasn’t in the city anymore.
Considering his previous injuries, if he had dared to stay here, that would have been courageous.
"Where are you going?"
After figuring things out, Chuzheng looked up to find Xi Jing about to go out.
"I found a job..." Xi Jing, like a startled deer, softly replied: "I’m going to work now."
I have plenty of money, and can’t take care of you?
Chuzheng thought for a moment and swallowed her words: "Where is it? What time do you get off?"
Xi Jing honestly answered: "At the dessert shop on the next street, I’ll be off at ten tonight."
Ten?
So late?
"I’ll pick you up. Don’t wander around."
"..." Xi Jing pressed his lips, nodded slightly: "I got it."
-
Xi Jing hadn’t done this kind of work before, but the boss saw his decent appearance, which could attract a lot of young girls, so he put him at the front to sell desserts.
As expected, by the time school was out, many girls came in. Even if they didn’t want to buy anything, seeing Xi Jing made them spend money on something, and the sales revenue soared.
"Young man, keep up the good work." The boss was ecstatic and even waived Xi Jing’s probation: "Interact more with the customers."
Xi Jing: "..."
