Let's Squander A Billion First!
Chapter 1769: Storms Over the Manor (Part 6)
Xi Nan was trying all sorts of ways to test Chuzheng, and the final conclusion was... she remembered everything, even some minor details, she could recount them all.
Though when she spoke, she had to recall for a long time...
But considering how long ago these things were, it was normal to need some time to think.
This person is indeed their Tower Master.
So why has she changed?
"Tower Master, we’ve received the invitation to the Summit of Heroes!!!"
Xi Nan rushed in hastily, shaking the invitation in his hand.
"What?"
Chuzheng was utterly confused, what invitation to the Summit of Heroes? What kind of martial arts event is this?
"This, this exactly!!"
Xi Nan slapped the gilded invitation in front of Chuzheng.
"We haven’t received an invitation to the Summit of Heroes for three years, I thought we’d never get one again. But unexpectedly, we received it this year!!"
Xi Nan was as excited as if he were marrying a bride.
The Summit of Heroes.
Hosted by Shenwu Manor, it’s not that the content of the summit is particularly important, but Shenwu Manor holds an exalted position in the martial arts world. Receiving an invitation from Shenwu Manor was a testament to one’s standing in the martial arts realm.
Fengman Building used to be on the invitation list every year.
Yet three years ago, Fengman Building stopped receiving invitations from Shenwu Manor.
"Not going." Chuzheng’s two words crushed Xi Nan’s hopes.
"Tower Master, how can we not go, this..."
"Go to get laughed at?" Chuzheng was bewildered: "You have quite the peculiar taste."
The current state of Fengman Building, going there would be nothing more than entertaining others as a joke.
She’d be crazy to invite such trouble.
Xi Nan muttered like a doctor: "But it’s an invitation from Shenwu Manor..." Ignoring it would be akin to slapping Shenwu Manor in the face, and truly have no future to speak of!
"If you want to go, go yourself. I’m not going." Chuzheng was determined not to get involved in this hassle, leaving Xi Nan very anxious.
Nevertheless, no matter what was said, Chuzheng wasn’t going, end of discussion.
Xi Nan: "..."
-
Let’s set aside the Summit of Heroes matter, as it won’t happen for another two months; there’s plenty of time.
Now, the most important thing is Xin Yu.
Shortly after they put their sign up, Xin Yu returned in complete disarray.
Chuzheng recalled the original plan was for Xin Yu to retrieve a sword... intended for debt payment.
That sword was originally left by Fengman Building with someone else. The original owners stumbled upon this written record accidentally, and given Fengman Building’s very poor financial situation, Chuzheng sent Xin Yu to retrieve it.
But now Xin Yu came back injured, let alone the sword; Chuzheng hadn’t even seen a piece of it.
"Who did this to you? Aren’t you supposed to be strong? What if that scar remains on your face? Stop staying silent, you should speak, who did this to you, damn it, I’ll destroy them!!"
As soon as Chuzheng entered, she heard Xi Nan nagging at the bedside.
Though his tone wasn’t the best, the worry in the lines was glaringly evident.
Xin Yu leaned against the bedside. Her injuries had been tended to, but she was rather impatient: "Can you shut up."
"You actually want me to shut up? I am your brother!!"
"..."
"Tower Master."
Upon seeing Chuzheng, Xin Yu immediately called out.
Xi Nan jumped up swiftly, stood to the side, and said indignantly: "Tower Master, you’re here, look at how my sister’s been treated, this grudge must be avenged!!"
Xin Yu and Xi Nan shared significant similarities, but Xin Yu wasn’t the gentle, delicate type. Instead, she embodied the presence of a valiant female warrior.
Chuzheng nodded: "How did this happen?"
Xin Yu was momentarily stunned and looked at her brother.
Why does the Tower Master seem different?
Before, she would’ve already rushed over...
Xin Yu had been mentally prepared to be overwhelmed by her family’s concerns again. Surprisingly, the Tower Master remained so composed.
Xi Nan discreetly made a hand gesture.
The siblings had their unique communication methods, and Xin Yu quickly understood, suppressing the doubts lingering in her eyes: "I followed your instructions to go there, but..."
When Xin Yu arrived, she witnessed a scene strewn with corpses.
The bodies were still warm, indicating recent death.
Before Xin Yu could investigate, she was attacked...
"It wasn’t just one person, their martial skills were bizarre, I had no ability to fight back. They pursued me relentlessly, and in the end, jumping into the river was my only escape."
Xin Yu was a martial arts prodigy; in Fengman Building, besides the Left and Right Protectors, her skills should be the highest. Even Xi Nan couldn’t defeat her.
Yet Xin Yu said she encountered a group against whom she had no defense at all.
How formidable were these people?
Xin Yu hadn’t been able to ascertain the specific situation, so naturally, the sword wasn’t retrieved.
"Tower Master, this matter hasn’t occurred to anyone else in the martial arts realm yet..." Xin Yu furrowed her brows, her expression somewhat grave: "Should we inform other sects?"
She heard nothing along her way back.
"Tell them what? So they can blame it on us?" Fengman Building’s reputation isn’t in shambles?!
"But..."
Chuzheng interrupted Xin Yu: "Focus on healing first. If you need anything, talk to Xi Nan; we’re not short on money now."
Xin Yu hesitated to speak, then after a while: "Okay."
Chuzheng instructed Xin Yu a bit and left the room. Once she was gone, Xin Yu asked Xi Nan: "What happened to the Tower Master?"
"Dunno..." Xi Nan shook his head: "Right now, the Left Protector and I suspect the Tower Master’s brain might have..."
He gestured towards his head, but didn’t dare to voice it.
"It’s clear the Tower Master hasn’t been impersonated. That matter isn’t what’s pressing for the moment." Xi Nan pointed to Xin Yu’s injuries: "The most pressing thing is figuring out who did this to you!!"
"..."
The fact that the Tower Master has become weird should be the real priority!!!
Xin Yu recalled something even more significant: "Why did we suddenly move to Linjiang City? Where did the money come from?" Coming back to find Fengman Building so different from her impression was very startling.
"Well, it’s a long story, here’s how it goes..."
-
"Tower Master, Tower Master, something’s wrong!!"
In the dead of night, Chuzheng was woken up by noise.
"What’s gone wrong, who died?" Chuzheng opened the door with a face dark as night, glaring at the knocker with an expression suggesting they’d better offer significant news, or she’d kill them.
The one who knocked swallowed nervously, a bit scared: "Xi Nan... Young Master Xi Nan is missing."
"Such a big person, if he’s missing, he’s missing." If he’s missing, go find him, why come to me, do I know where he is?
Hold on...
Xi Nan is missing?
"Miss Xin Yu said..."
Chuzheng’s icy gaze swept over: "Said what?"
The person shivered, feeling currently that the Tower Master is terrifying.
"Miss Xin Yu said, Xi Nan may have gone towards Wugu Mountain, asking the Tower Master to quickly send people to find Young Master Xi Nan, fearing some accident might occur."
"What’s in Wugu Mountain?"
That person shook his head, looking utterly clueless.
Chuzheng reached out to rub her temples: "Go to Xin Yu."
"Oh oh oh... Please, Tower Master."
