Chapter 33: Into The Inner Nyxare

For the next few days, Alex continued with his previous routine.

He completed as many F-Rank missions as he could, and on his fifteenth day since the tutorial started, a screen he so patiently awaited appeared before him.

[Level: 9 (1800/1800) (F)]

[Ding! You have leveled up!]

[Level 9 → 10]

[+5 Combat Value.]

[System: Host Alex, your Mana Pool is being upgraded.]

Alex smiled, and the familiar, warm yet cold sensation filled his mind and body.

He closed his eyes and dived deeper into himself.

His senses soon reached his mana pool, and the bowl that used to be covered with golden fog now had a burning white star at its center.

The mana inside the pool was moving around the star like a vortex, becoming purer and heavier than before.

Amazing, Alex commented inwardly and opened his eyes.

He clenched his fists a few times and walked toward the guild’s exit.

The adventurers inside watched him leave with dark expressions, and one of them asked in a low voice, "Did you feel it?"

The woman standing beside him nodded and responded, "I did... what kind of monster has such bloodlust?"

Alex suddenly stopped in his steps, and the woman, who had just called him a monster, shivered, her eyes turned tearful as though she was ready to kneel to plead for her life, but before she could, Alex disappeared.

Using [Shadow Movement], Alex appeared in a dark alley and checked his status.

I reached tier 2 in Adventurer subclass by completing over a 100 F-Rank missions, Alex remarked inwardly, and his focus shifted.

I am finally E, but with 45.2 CV, I am as strong as a low D, heh.

A smile found its way to his lips. He jumped into his shadow and moved deeper inside the city, toward the inner city gates.

After a few minutes, he stepped out of his shadow and stopped before tall, magnificent gates engraved with a silver eye and a crescent under it.

The crescent had smaller crescents, a moon, and two stars within it.

It was one of the various symbols of Eternal Night, Goddess Nyx.

He stepped closer to the gates, and they began to open by themselves.

Unlike what most would expect, the magnificent gates made no sound as they moved, and once they were open, Alex’s gaze fell on a knight wearing a black, obsidian armor that hid the person wearing it extremely well – it had a red plume moving with the wild winds and a symbol similar to the gate carved in silver on the chest.

The knight raised a hand toward Alex and asked, "Your identity."

The voice was feminine, prompting Alex to make an educated guess.

A female knight, huh. She must be from the church, then.

As the City Knight Order only took males, it wasn’t that difficult to surmise her affiliation.

He took out his Adventurer License from his inventory and placed it in her hand.

She examined it for a moment, then returned the license to him.

"You may enter."

Alex took the card, stored it in his inventory, and stepped forward with his eyes gleaming in curiosity.

Although the outer city had nearly everything that the new Players needed, it didn’t have good main classes.

The only few that most players chose were either Warrior, Alchemist, or Knight Apprentice.

The first and second were possible by passing a test at the Adventurers or Alchemist Guild – for the latter, the Player had to convince a City Knight to take them as their student.

One can simply become a knight by completing the one-week training at the City Knight Order’s base.

Just as he took a few steps in the inner city, the knight from before muttered from behind.

"Wait!"

Alex frowned and turned toward her, confusion clear on his face.

She took a few steps and said, "Apologies for my rude behavior, but I must warn you not to go near the cemetery."

"I won’t," he replied soon after.

"You sure?" She asked, her tone uneasy.

"100% sure," he said, though he was unable to control the wide grin and greedy glint in his yellow eyes.

All gamers know that when an NPC tells you not to go somewhere, you must go there. I wonder what kind of crazy things are happening there.

"Alright then..." she mumbled and walked over to the right wall and placed her palm on it.

Alex watched the gates close by themselves and left the place.

His destination was obviously the cemetery, but before that, he needed to check something.

After walking for a good enough distance, he entered his shadow and streaked further inside.

For the next few minutes, there was nothing but walls on his sides – however, they soon disappeared, and he reached the grand northern inner city.

Unlike the outer city, the buildings were much taller, and all of them seemed to be cut from a dark cloth.

The tinted windows were colorful, shedding light across the wide streets, and the people walking also wore colorful attire, which was the opposite of the outer city.

Carriages went past him, and his eyes drifted towards various stalls, shops, and buildings.

"How did they even build it?" He mumbled to himself, and unexpectedly, he received an answer.

"No one built it," a soft, young voice reached him, and he turned his head to the left.

But there was no one.

"Huh?"
