Little Sorcerer, Divine Doctor
Chapter 1201 - 27: New Equipment
Before setting out, Yun Sheng ran into another problem—her appearance.
Yun Sheng looked a lot like the former Heavenly Fox Saintess of the Sky Fox Clan, Hu Sheng. After Yun Sheng arrived on the Bahuang Continent, this hadn’t caused too much trouble.
That was because at the very beginning, Yun Sheng had used Disguise Magic.
Another reason was that although Hu Sheng was the Heavenly Fox Saintess, because of her personality, she rarely appeared in any other capitals outside of Hu Capital, so within the Sky Lake Tribe Country, very few people actually knew what the previous Saintess Hu Sheng looked like.
But once Yun Sheng went along to the Sky Fox Tribe, things would be different; there would definitely be quite a few people there who recognized Hu Sheng.
As for using Disguise Magic, that wasn’t quite appropriate either.
According to He Lai, the Sky Fox Tribe Country had more Witch Sacrifices than any of the other tribe countries, and many of them could see through all kinds of Disguise Magic. So Disguise Magic couldn’t be used.
There was another hassle: Yun Sheng also had Little Yingying with her, and Little Yingying was one hundred percent Human Clan.
Hu Capital, like the other cities and towns of the Sky Fox Tribe, strictly forbade Humans and wild Demon Beasts from entering.
So before leaving Cangdu for Hu Capital, He Lai prepared some things for the two of them.
They were two sets of gear for dressing up as Half-Beasts. No one knew where He Lai had gotten them; supposedly, once you put them on, as long as you didn’t undergo a bloodline test, even a true Purebred Heavenly Fox wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a Half-Beast and a Human.
Yun Sheng and Little Yingying disguised themselves according to He Lai’s instructions. After looking at each other’s new appearances, they both burst into loud laughter.
What He Lai had prepared for them were a white set and a tender yellow set of Sky Fox Ears and Fox Tails.
Right now, both of them had a pair of extremely realistic Fox Ears stuck on their heads, and a big fluffy tail growing out from behind.
Yun Sheng had to hand it to the people of the Bahuang Continent; compared to this kind of incredibly realistic Heavenly Fox getup, the so‑called modern-day cosplay back home was simply weak.
"Bo Bo! Dear master, now you’ve really turned into a vixen," Bo Bo didn’t need any Disguise itself. It glanced at Yun Sheng and Little Yingying and was delighted.
It had to be said, that guy He Lai did have an eye for things.
For dear master, he’d prepared a pure white set of Fox Clan Half-Beast gear; the snowy, fluffy Fox Tail made master’s temperament look even more striking.
Little Yingying’s was a soft pinkish-yellow fox outfit; the fuzzy yellow little ears made her look bursting with Spiritual Energy, like a lively little fox come to life.
However, unlike Little Yingying, the Sky Fox Half-Beast gear for master included, besides the tail and ears, a veil to cover master’s face.
Mention of foxes made Yun Sheng think of Ye Hu; counting the days, she had been separated from Ye Hu for quite some time.
According to their agreement, Ye Beiming would go to the Beast God Altar to undergo the baptism; once he regained human form, he would come to the Sky Fox Tribe to meet up with Yun Sheng.
The Sky Fox Tribe’s main base was Hu Capital.
If he was truly intent on it, he would definitely have already gone to Hu Capital to search for her whereabouts.
But with Hu Capital being such a huge place, how was she supposed to get in touch with Ye Beiming?
"Master, Uncle He Lai is calling us out. He says the three Heavenly Fox Candidate Saintesses have arrived," Little Yingying was completely smitten with her fox disguise, touching it here and poking it there.
At that moment, He Lai reminded the two of them from outside the door that it was time to depart.
This time, Yun Sheng’s identity was that of a Medical Woman accompanying the group, while Little Yingying was master’s Medicine Gathering Boy attendant.
Only after the two of them were fully ready did they leave the City Guardian Mansion.
In the central square of Cangdu, Hu Yue and He Lai together were seeing off the three Heavenly Fox Candidate Saintesses representing Cangdu in their journey to Hu Capital.
Since they had already sent off two batches of Candidate Saintesses, this was the third time. The people of Cangdu no longer had the enthusiasm they’d shown when the first batch of Candidate Saintesses was sent off.
Some people were even whispering among themselves, wondering whether this group of Saintesses would have any chance of coming back alive.
Because of their disguises, Yun Sheng and Little Yingying arrived the latest.
Hu Yue had already finished his words of farewell, and the three Candidate Saintesses had each boarded their own beast-drawn carriage.
Nearly two hundred Half-Beasts and Beastman Soldiers were tasked with escorting this group of Candidate Saintesses.
According to status, the carriage of the most noble, the Purebred Heavenly Fox Saintess, went in front, followed by the two Mixed Blood Heavenly Fox Saintesses in second and third.
As for the carriage of Yun Sheng and Little Yingying, since Yun Sheng had already spoken to him beforehand, He Lai arranged for the simplest and most inconspicuous beast carriage for them.
After Yun Sheng and Little Yingying boarded, He Lai came up and gave them several more reminders.
"Master He Lai, there’s no need to worry. Little Yingying and I will definitely reach Hu Capital safely," Yun Sheng was very grateful for He Lai’s concern.
As the carriages rolled out, He Lai watched the convoy until it disappeared into the distance before returning to the City Guardian Mansion, his face full of worry.
After He Lai returned to the City Guardian Mansion, about a day later, a Messenger rushed into Cangdu.
"Master He Lai, a message just came from the direction of Hu Capital. Another batch of Candidate Saintesses has been killed, and this time... it was even more brutal than the previous ones. All three Candidate Saintesses, without exception, were ravaged and then disfigured before death."
"What? Which Capital’s Guard Team was escorting them, and when did it happen?" He Lai’s expression changed drastically when he heard this.
This method was even more vicious and inhuman than the earlier ambushes.
And judging by the methods, this new group of assassins targeting the Candidate Saintesses was not the same bunch that had previously ambushed Cangdu’s Candidate Saintesses.
Why, at this critical juncture, had a completely new force suddenly appeared to assassinate the Candidate Saintesses?
Could it be that someone didn’t want the Sky Fox Tribe to choose a new Saintess? Who exactly were they?
Even He Lai had no clue at this point.
"They were the Candidate Saintesses sent from Langdu," the Messenger had already ridden day and night to get back, but he was still a step too late; Cangdu’s convoy had already departed ahead of him.
Langdu! Wasn’t that the Capital on the same official road as Cangdu... He Lai’s heart surged with crashing waves.
At this point, if he wanted to recall Yun Sheng and the others, it might still be in time. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Someone, pass on an urgent verbal order immediately. Catch up with the Guard Team and warn them they must avoid the official road at all costs," He Lai quickly came up with a plan.
Escorting the Saintesses into Hu Capital was an order from Hu Capital; if he recalled the Candidate Saintesses, he would offend that bunch of elders in Hu Capital. Since that was the case, there was still another way—have Yun Sheng and the others avoid the official road. That way, they might at least have some chance of survival.
The message was of utmost urgency and was sent out that very night.
