"They failed."

"Their deaths shouldn’t come as a surprise. Just hope they managed to take one of those creatures down."

"What about Origin?"

He shifted the conversation away from the death of the two instructors to something he deemed more important, but the answers he received only left him feeling disappointed.

"This much time?"

His voice echoed admist the silence of the instructors and every other person present.

He waved his hand, turning away from them with shaking shoulders.

"Almost done. Geralt and the other forces are handling it. The listed ones have already been withdrawn."

"Remain on standby. They might not make it, and we might have to improvise"

Each one of them understood the necessity behind their actions, and they had no choice but to bear with it, but the reality of their actions was one they would have to bear till their deaths.

Back on the wall, Holland was back in a tight spot. The tremors had reached a level that could be felt clearly by everyone on the wall, and the lights of hope he had just barely managed to reignite was getting snuffed out for the nth time.

The will of the recruits were like a flickering flame.

Along with increasingly heavy tremors was a huge shadowy silhouette , becoming clearer with each step.

’It’s going to ram into the dome’

He had seen two fall like they were worth nothing. It was beyond doubt that he had no faith in the last dome, especially after it flickered a while ago.

Whatever they were planning, he needed it to be over fast. They were as good as dead if that creature tore through the dome and hit the wall.

Feeling the wild aura of the beast wash over them, many recruits stiffened again, but some managed to snap out of it faster than before, the soldiers remaining unaffected for the most part.

The loud churning sound of a machine turning on filled the wall as each operator shifted their aim to the beast and fired the cannons till the tips burned red hot and threatened to melt down.

The land around the attack had been melted into a pool of lava that fried their beasts that were close by, but at the center of that pool was the Grade 6 beast with it’s hide glowing red from the heat of the attack, but it was still there, in one piece.

Its speed increased drastically as it ran towards the dome.

A period that had seemed so short at the beginning was now proof of how close to death they were. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

A few more attacks and the dome were bound to fall.

The camp’s only connection with them were the two instructors that had jumped to their own deaths.

There was no one coming from there. The soldiers that had been withdrawn were nowhere in sight.

Holland’s eyes flickered, and he looked around the wall with an expression that begged his thoughts to be false, but he was left with quivering eyes and a stabbing feeling of betrayal in his gut.

The soldiers were the older ones, nearing the end of their service on the planet and possibly to the military.

A bunch of incompetent recruits who had yet to complete their training, and soldiers who had reached the end of their road, and thus their usefulness.

Sacrifices offered by the camp to buy time for their rescue or escape.

The beasts immediately funneled in, killing all the soldiers that remained on the ground.

Along with the rushing beast, the Grade 6 beast was seen preparing to much another attack, but this time at the wall.

While some foolish recruits waited for the support of the camp, other’s realized what was going on, but it was too late as they tried to abandon their positions.

Holland threw his rifle to the side and unsheathed his sword, cutting the beast that had tried to pounce on him.

Fear had its time

And now Chaos was having its time, descending on the wall with full force.

It was too chaotic and dark to tell anyone apart. His blade knew neither friend nor foe, moving to anything that moved towards him as he tried to cut his way to the other side of the wall.

Those thoughts of his crumbled with the wall beneath his feet as the Grade 6 beast crashed into it, toppling it.

He had resolved to survive no matter what, but he had placed too much trust in the camp, only realizing at the last moment.

His thoughts were cut off as he finally landed on the ground, his body buried by the rubbles of the wall he had defended till the end.
