Chapter 99: Onyx.

It would be a lie if Freya said she wasn’t equally anxious.

But she held her composure.

"We’ll only know once we answer the call," she said, finally picking up the phone to answer.

"Let me hear it." Amelia instinctively leaned forward, as if getting closer would somehow help her catch every word. Her fingers curled tightly at her sides, her anticipation evident in the tension of her posture.

Freya didn’t stop her. She simply answered the call and spoke in a warm professional tone.

"Producer Polson," she said steadily, "has it been decided?"

There was a brief silence on the other end.

Freya’s grip on the phone tightened ever so slightly.

"Freya," James finally spoke.

His voice ... felt different than before.

Not uncertain —but not as assured as she had expected earlier.

He paused, as if carefully weighing his words, reconsidering them even at this moment.

"We have decided to cast Adelyn as the female lead."

For a second —

Freya was stunned.

Beside her, Amelia froze as well, her eyes widening in disbelief.

Although they had known Adelyn was being considered for the lead role, hearing the final decision still caught them off guard.

From the very beginning, neither of them had truly expected this outcome.

Freya and Amelia exchanged a quick glance before Freya composed herself.

Her expression returned to calm professionalism, as though this had been anticipated result all along.

"I see," she replied smoothly. "Thank you for informing me, Producer Polson —and for placing your trust in Adelyn. It truly means a lot."

She paused briefly before continuing,

"May I know the next steps? We’ll need to proceed with the contract discussions, scheduling and initial preparations."

From the other end, James hummed.

"Yes ... but give me some time," he said. "I only called today to inform you of the decision. Someone from my team will reach out soon regarding the rest."

Freya heard him and nodded, even though he couldn’t see her.

Though he gave that decision to her, she still felt he wasn’t sounding very excited about it. It was as if even he wasn’t very optimistic about the decision made.

Which only meant one thing —

Director Rhodes has made the decision alone and made others agree to it.

That might sound simple and easy, but more than anyone, Freya knows how difficult it must have been.

She didn’t probe to ask, but rather simply responded.

"Of course. That works. I will wait for your team to contact me. Thank you once again."

James responded with a soft hum.

Then he paused.

It felt as though he wanted to say something more.

Freya sensed it clearly.

But even after a few long seconds, he said nothing.

And then —

A beep of disconnection was heard.

He had hung up.

Freya slowly lowered the phone, her expression turned slightly complicated.

"Did he say anything else?" Amelia asked immediately.

Freya shook her head. "No ... he didn’t. But he seemed a little concerned."

"Concerned?" Amelia repeated with a small frown between her brows. "Is it about Adelyn?"

Freya didn’t answer directly.

But her silence said enough.

She knew exactly what that concern stemmed from.

And truthfully —

She shared a part of it too.

Still, compared to that unease, there was something far more important.

This opportunity —which could be proven to be a turning point for all of them.

"The concerns can be dealt with later," Freya said calmly. "For now, let’s focus on what matters."

With that, she dialled Adelyn’s number.

The call connected quickly.

"Sister Freya," Adelyn’s voice came from the other end. She had just changed into fresh clothes and was about to head out to get some groceries when she got the call. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Freya hummed lightly before saying, "I received a call from Producer Polson. You’ve been selected for the female lead. Congratulations —you did very well."

A small smile formed on her lips.

But there was no surprise in her expression.

"Thank you, Sister Freya," she replied. "If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have even gotten the chance."

The auditions came later.

First, there had been the opportunity to stand there at all.

And that was something she wouldn’t forget.

Freaky didn’t dismiss her words with modesty.

She accepted them.

Then, shifting to what mattered, she asked,

"Producer Polson mentioned it will take some time to finalize the contracts and related matters, so we’ll have to wait. In the meantime, do you think you’ll need me to arrange training sessions for you?"

It was a period drama.

Training —especially in the physical aspects —was inevitable.

Initially, Freya hadn’t considered it urgent, since she hadn’t expected Adelyn to secure the lead role.

But now —

That had changed.

Adelyn thought for a moment before replying, "I’ll need a training space. But I won’t really need a trainer."

Freya paused at that.

Her brows lifted slightly.

"No trainer?" she asked. "Are you sure? The drama will rely heavily on action sequences —especially swordsmanship. Without proper guidance, it won’t be easy."

"Mhm ..." Adelyn hummed softly. "I have some basic understanding of swordsmanship. Don’t worry —I’ll manage to train even without a trainer."

Freya wasn’t entirely convinced.

Not because she doubted Adelyn —

But because she didn’t fully know her capabilities yet.

After a moment of consideration, she said,

"Alright. I’ll arrange a training space for you first. As for the trainer, we’ll reassess after a week. If you feel you need one, I’ll arrange it."

Adelyn had no objections

After all, not everyone knew about her identity as Onyx yet.

"Okay."

Freya relaxed slightly at her response.

They exchanged a few more words before ending the call.

Adelyn glanced at the clock.

It was getting late.

But she still needed to step out and buy groceries.

Otherwise, dinner would be out of the question.

With that thought, she picked up her phone and walked toward the door.

But the moment she opened it —

Her steps halted, noticing another presence.

Her gaze lifted to have a better look, and she paused.

"You ..."
