Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along
Chapter 300: "Noah Sterling, I want to make this for real.
Sherry Walsh stood at the door, her feelings a tangled mess.
She had a feeling that Noah Sterling must have felt something, at least a little, for Jane Jenkins.
After all, it was a young love.
"Jane Jenkins, if making a scene actually worked, you wouldn’t be wasting your time on me. You’d be better off trying your luck with someone richer. If you don’t know who the wealthy people in Celestria are, I can make some introductions for you."
Noah Sterling’s voice shattered the silence.
His tone was devoid of emotion.
Hearing this, Sherry Walsh almost burst out laughing.
She hadn’t expected him to try and persuade Jane, or to offer any high-minded platitudes to help her move on.
Instead, he’d cut straight to the heart of her intentions!
Jane Jenkins froze. "What are you talking about! Do you think I’ve been looking for you all this time because you have money? I don’t need money! I just regret losing someone who genuinely cared for me!"
Noah Sterling glanced toward the restroom. "What’s taking her so long? Did she fall in there?"
As he spoke, the man started to take out his phone.
"Noah, stop pretending. I know your relationship is fake. I truly regret breaking up with you. If we get back together, I promise I’ll be completely devoted to you."
Jane Jenkins’s eyes were red as she took another step forward.
She had spent the past few days endlessly re-evaluating their past.
Noah Sterling may not have had money back then, but he had been truly good to her.
He not only cared for her but gave her everything he possibly could.
It was she who hadn’t known how to be content. It was she who had been dazzled by the lifestyles of her wealthy classmates while studying abroad.
She watched them carry luxury bags, ride in fancy cars, and attend fashion shows every year to pick out new clothes.
And she had wanted that life for herself.
Only later did she realize that everything, indeed, comes with a hidden price tag.
Now, with nothing to her name, she genuinely regretted breaking up with him.
Noah Sterling didn’t even spare her another glance, dialing Sherry Walsh’s number...
The next second, a phone’s ringtone sounded from the direction of the restroom door.
Sherry Walsh had been happily eavesdropping inside, not at all expecting Noah Sterling to actually call her!
She quickly silenced her phone and hurried out of the restroom, guiltily touching her nose. "I was afraid of interrupting your conversation, so I thought I’d wait a bit before coming out."
’Right.’
’She had really just wanted to hear some gossip.’
’And also see what Noah Sterling’s attitude would be.’
"Interrupting what? I was just waiting for you." Noah Sterling reached a hand out to Sherry Walsh. "I thought you’d had too much to drink and passed out in there."
"It was just a few beers. I’m not that much of a lightweight!"
Sherry Walsh sounded indignant.
"It’s okay if you are. I’ll drink for you next time."
Noah Sterling’s voice was clearly laced with concern.
Jane Jenkins stood to the side, practically invisible.
The two of them took a couple of steps forward before Sherry Walsh turned back. "Miss Jenkins, you need to correct what you just said."
"What?"
Jane Jenkins looked at her.
"Being completely devoted to your partner during a relationship is a basic requirement, not some incredible feat. If you can’t even manage that, then you really don’t deserve to be in a relationship at all."
Sherry Walsh said this with the utmost seriousness.
Jane Jenkins stared at her. "Don’t you stand there and lecture me. I hired a private investigator. I know your relationship is fake. He just hired you to put on an act, and you only agreed so you could suck up to him."
At this point, she threw all caution to the wind.
If she couldn’t be with him, she wasn’t going to let Sherry Walsh act all smug in front of her!
"We..."
"Jane Jenkins, I don’t need to explain my relationship with Sherry to you. Hiring a private investigator is illegal. If you continue to pester us, or if you do anything to hurt Sherry, I will use every means at my disposal to find evidence of your invasion of our privacy and send you to jail."
Noah Sterling had cut Sherry’s explanation short.
It was a direct counterattack.
The man’s every word was grave, his tone a clear warning.
Jane Jenkins’s expression froze.
She never imagined Noah Sterling would actually threaten to send her to jail!
Noah Sterling continued, "I am very confident in my professional abilities. Don’t think this is some trivial matter. If you do anything to harm my girlfriend, I will make sure you go to jail. It doesn’t matter what kind of lawyer you hire—I will not lose."
The night was deep, and the air was still.
Only the faint chirping of insects could be heard.
When the two of them returned to the lakeside, there were only a few people left.
Kent Phelps waved at them. "Everyone else has gone back to their rooms to rest. We’re about to go night fishing. Want to join?"
After Noah Sterling declined, he looked at Sherry Walsh. "Shall we go back and rest?"
Sherry Walsh nodded.
Her mind had been in a jumble ever since that confrontation.
For a lawyer like her, the words Noah Sterling had just spoken were like a precision-targeted blast of pheromones!
Back under the same roof.
Sherry Walsh watched the man walk directly into the living room. She had wanted to say something, but swallowed her words.
She turned, went upstairs, changed her clothes, and went to take a shower.
Maybe it was the unstable water pressure.
The water from the showerhead alternated between hot and cold.
She had just managed to adjust the water to a suitable temperature and had just finished washing her hair...
When the temperature suddenly spiked!
"AH!"
Sherry Walsh let out a scalded cry!
"What’s wrong!"
Noah Sterling’s voice rang out after a flurry of footsteps up the stairs.
The bathroom and the bedroom were separated by a glass wall, with only a set of blinds in between.
But...
The blinds weren’t exactly opaque. Through the gaps between the slats, a woman’s silhouette was faintly visible.
Sherry Walsh covered herself with a bath towel before explaining, "It’s nothing. There’s a problem with the water temperature. It keeps going from hot to cold."
"Oh. I’ll be downstairs. Call me if you need anything."
The moment he finished speaking, the sound of his footsteps followed.
Listening to his fading footsteps, Sherry Walsh felt a sudden restlessness stir within her.
After her shower, she applied rose-scented body lotion, put on the silk nightgown she had brought with her, and stood at the top of the stairs.
It was quiet downstairs; there wasn’t a sound.
She swallowed hard, her mind a whirlwind of chaotic thoughts.
Finally, she lifted her foot and stepped down onto the next stair.
As she descended step by step, the person downstairs finally reacted.
Before she even reached the bottom, Noah Sterling’s figure appeared at the foot of the stairs.
The man’s shirt was noticeably wrinkled, with only two or three buttons haphazardly done, revealing a large expanse of skin on his neck and chest.
"What’s wrong?"
The man looked up at her, and when he noticed what she was wearing, his Adam’s apple bobbed noticeably.
Sherry Walsh had just showered. Her hair was only towel-dried, and beads of water trickled down the strands, dripping onto her collarbone before sliding beneath the edge of her silk nightgown’s neckline.
The nightgown wasn’t particularly short, but from his angle, the hem rose and fell with her every move...
Offering a tantalizing glimpse.
In a few steps, Sherry Walsh reached the ground floor and walked over to the man.
She placed both hands on his arms, "arranging" him into the corner by the stairs.
Then, she straightened her arms, pressing her hands against the wall on either side of him.
Lifting her head, her gaze met his as she asked, word by word, "Noah Sterling, I want to make this fake relationship real."
