Chapter 1583 - 1164: Ancient Battlefield (Part 2)
In the mass grave in the middle, the Werewolf Angel stood atop the corpses, clad in heavy armor, with a round shield in his left hand and a sharp axe in his right, looking more like a blood-soaked Werewolf Warrior than an Angel or Demigod.
"Najilfa is dead, and I cannot face the Abyss Lord’s wrath." The werewolf’s voice was heavy, like the beating of war drums: "Only with your blood can my shame be cleansed. When Najilfa wears the olive wreath and enters the Heroic Spirit Hall, I will take your skulls as cups to drink with him!"
The dilapidated war drums roared, the ancient battlefield seemingly coming to life. Humans, Dwarves, Elves, Beastmen, Ogres, Goblins... Giants, Dragon-men, Winged Men, Lizard Men... Those modern races still existing or ancient races lost to history appeared on this ancient battlefield, without purpose, reason, or profit, wearing tattered armor, picking up rusty swords and spears, drawing bowstrings, raising muskets, executing a drama repeated countless times on this land—raising butcher’s blades against each other, relentless until victory!
In the chaos of flying flesh, the werewolf strode directly over to Ash, closing the gap in one breath, swinging his axe down!
As the werewolf charged, the Sword Maiden and her group immediately unleashed their strongest Heavenly Position Wonders, Sword Tide, silver lines, and soul locks exploding simultaneously, formidable enough to melt mountains and seas, yet the werewolf remained unscathed. Whether physical or soul attack, light interference or sound disturbance, merely causing the shield to flicker, unable to stop him from targeting Ash!
An impeccable Absolute Defense!
Ash’s eyes were fierce as he dexterously pulled out twin swords from his sleeve, silently activating Heart Hunting on his throne, waves of ink coiling around the werewolf!
Thud!
Ash dove down like an arrow piercing the ground, kicking up a layer of dust on the battlefield, even flattening a Dwarf archer into a pulp. Seeing the Sword Maiden and her group approaching, Ash shouted loudly: "It’s useless, you can’t help me, go do your own tasks!"
As he spoke, the werewolf instantly teleported before him, raising his shield to crash over! Ash swiftly raised his divine power twin swords to block the attack, but was still shaken, his soul body echoing with a blast, vomiting blood with a woeful cry. Nonetheless, the werewolf’s axe cleaved from behind the shield, leaving Ash unable to evade, only to parry again, flung dozens of meters away, creating a gory spectacle across the battlefield!
Once Ash stood up, the werewolf teleported in front of him again, this time Ash finally figured out the werewolf’s combat rhythm, using his left sword with divine power to block the axe, while thrusting his right sword at the werewolf’s only unarmored throat!
However, when his sword struck the werewolf’s furry neck, the shield flickered again, nullifying Ash’s attack.
"This is absurd..." Ash was numb, thinking his ordinary attack could breach the werewolf’s Absolute Defense.
From the earlier battle, Ash concluded that the werewolf had three abilities: ① Absolute Defense, which could negate any influence through shield flicker, and remained unaffected by any controls; ② Instant Teleportation, which allowed the werewolf to appear directly beside Ash regardless of where he was, always at the optimal attack distance; ③ Ignoring Defense, for Ash constantly maintained "Refraction Protection" while persistently using "Heart Hunting" to attack the werewolf, yet the latter was ineffective possibly due to Absolute Defense, but Refraction Protection never triggered, indicating the werewolf directly ignored Ash’s authority, capable of attacking his soul body at any time!
These three abilities were undeniably potent, but there was something perplexing about the werewolf: besides defense, he used no Wonders, relying solely on ordinary attacks.
Consequently, Ash naturally speculated similarly: could the werewolf’s abilities adhere to a fair rule, whereby he could use the shield to block all Extraordinary Abilities, but at the same time could not use other Extraordinary Abilities, so only pure combat skills could harm him?
The result proved entirely false; even ordinary attacks were blocked by the shield. Indeed, this world lacks methods for exploits; enemies are neither foolish nor would they leave a loophole for you to defeat them.
This was utterly hopeless—werewolves disregarded all distance and defense you had, while all your attacks on the werewolf were utterly ineffective... Ash presently felt desolate, akin to how ordinary soldiers felt encountering players from the Moon Shadow stream.
Only time delay could work, Ash took a deep breath, gripped his swords tightly, charging at the werewolf, a symphonic clash resonating across the battlefield!
Yet within mere tens of seconds, Ash felt his arms weaken, his arm bones cracking in excruciating pain, his twin swords nearly slipping from his grasp repeatedly. Though the werewolf employed mere Body Technique, his axe and shield alternated, his power practically reached Wonder-level, and with each clash, Ash felt as if he was struck by a speeding train, a train he couldn’t slice nor halt!
If not for being able to use divine power every five seconds to withstand the heaviest blows, along with the Healing Miracle constantly effective to restore injuries, Ash would have been taken down by now!
Finally, as Ash used his twin swords to block the shield’s collision again, unable to consecutively execute swordsmanship extremes after just employing divine power, losing the auxiliary of impeccable technique, the paired swords reached their limit, shattering with a crack, the weighty impact threatening to utterly crush Ash’s soul body!
