Married For Now
Chapter 256: A RECESSIVE ALPHA
"YOU manifested as an Alpha?"
"A Recessive Alpha, to be exact," Cho Euntak explained. He wouldn’t be usually comfortable talking about his Secondary Gender to other people. But he felt okay to share it with Baek Jeho. "Apparently, my pheromone level is just enough to call me an Alpha. In short, I’m not as amazing as you are, Baek Jeho."
"What does it matter? An Alpha is still an Alpha," Baek Jeho said, beaming. He even patted Cho Euntak’s shoulder excitedly. "Congratulations, Euntak-ah. This calls for a celebration!"
To be honest, Cho Euntak didn’t know how he wanted Baek Jeho to react to his awakening.
But he wouldn’t say that he was happy to see his friend this delighted.
"Is it really a good thing that I manifested as an Alpha?"
"Of course, it is," Baek Jeho said firmly. "Cho Euntak, the Alphas are at the top of the hierarchy. Why wouldn’t that be a good thing?"
"In the first place, I don’t like the fact that Alphas are given special privileges," Cho Euntak said bluntly. "That’s the reason why most Alphas are entitled, making them insufferable."
"Cho Euntak, are you being like this because of how my high school friends acted?"
"You’re not a very good model of an Alpha either, Baek Jeho."
"Cha Euntak, when will you forgive me for tolerating my asshole friends in high school?"
"Maybe once I know that you’ve already changed."
"Then you have to be my friend again."
"What?"
"You have to keep an eye on me to see if I’ve changed or not, correct?" Baek Jeho then crossed his arms over his chest. "That’s why we have to be friends again."
"What a lame excuse."
Baek Jeho smiled cheekily. "You’re right. It’s just an excuse. I just want to be close to you again, Cho Euntak."
"But why?"
"I’ve missed you so much."
Okay, that may or may not have made Cho Euntak’s heart skip a beat.
But he made sure he’d keep a poker face.
"What are you talking about, Baek Jeho?"
"You’re my best friend, Cho Euntak."
Ah.
Okay, Cho Euntak’s heart broke a little.
Just a little because he had known from the start that Baek Jeho only saw him as a friend.
I should stop wasting my energy on something that I can’t change.
"Let’s exchange numbers since I changed mine recently," Cho Euntak said, giving in. "And let’s share our schedule."
Baek Jeho smiled and nodded. "That’s a good idea, Cho Euntak."
***
EVEN with a broken heart, Cho Euntak still managed to enjoy his college life after meeting two precious friends.
First was Park Sohee— an older classmate.
He’s an Omega, and a hyung that I respect.
Later, he found out that Park Sohee was secretly married to Kim Heedo— an Alpha, and someone who was from a rich family.
A chaebol, to be precise.
I only found out that Heedo Sunbae-nim was a chaebol because he was a hyung that Baek Jeho knew.
The second good friend that he made was Hong Sera.
A Beta, and also a chaebol. She’s a pretty noona who takes good care of me.
Thanks to Park Sohee and Hong Sera, Cho Euntak didn’t have to hang out with Baek Jeho all the time.
Plus, I’m in the Webtoon Department while Baek Jeho is in the Business Department.
"Euntak-ah, it’s a shame that we can’t be groupmates for our class project this time."
"I know, Hyung," Cho Euntak said, sighing. "I hope my group mates are nice."
"Euntak-ah, they don’t have to be nice— they just have to be responsible and helpful," Kim Heedo said, laughing softly while patting Cho Euntak’s shoulder. "If someone in your group doesn’t help, remove their names in your project. Don’t let them freeload, okay?"
Oh.
Cho Euntak couldn’t answer Park Sohee.
I don’t know if I have the guts to say that to my groupmates...
***
CHO EUNTAK would admit it now— he was a pushover.
He had three group mates, but none of them really cooperated with him.
After dividing the work for their project during their first meeting, none of his group mates attended the following meetings that he had set up.
At first, his group mates would send the work that they did to him.
However, after he asked them to revise their work, none of his group mates had actually responded.
And, now, they’re ignoring my messages.
Haaah.
Cho Euntak had no choice but to do the project on his own.
After all, they would be graded as a group.
I can’t fail this class.
It wasn’t like he was on a scholarship. He also didn’t have to worry about money because his parents were supporting him. They had a comfortable life, after all.
Even so, he hated failing grades of all things.
Let’s just endure it this one last time.
"Sorry, I’m late."
Hmm?
Cho Euntak raised his head and was surprised to see one of his group mates.
If I remember correctly, his name is...
"Choi Seungmin?"
Cho Euntak was in a café, doing their project.
He sent his location to his groupmates and invited them to join him, but he didn’t expect that one of them would actually show up.
"Why do you look like you’ve only remembered me just now, Cho Euntak?"
"Well, you stopped going to class after our first meeting..."
Having said that, Cho Euntak wouldn’t say that he had forgotten about Choi Seungmin already.
He’s a handsome Alpha— he has the face that you can’t really forget easily.
However, that handsome face...
"You don’t look alright, Choi Seungmin," Cho Euntak said worriedly. He couldn’t help that he had empathy. So, even if this person didn’t help much with their project, he just couldn’t ignore the fact that Choi Seungmin’s face was messed up. "I think you should go to the hospital."
"Nah, I’m fine."
"You’re not," Cho Euntak said, cleaning the table and putting his things back in his backpack before standing up. "Let’s go— I’ll drive you to the hospital."
Who would have known that showing basic decency could lead to something big?
