Chapter 371: Chapter 209: Marry Those Young Masters? In Your Dreams! I’d Rather Die

"Brother Lu, what are you talking about? I wouldn’t dare have any ideas about your wife," Gu Gaoxu said, grabbing his cheeks as Lu Yuan’s scolding snapped him back to his senses.

At Gu Gaoxu’s words, Su Liyan lowered her head and hid behind Lu Yuan, her face burning hot. She could feel the tips of her ears turning red.

Lu Yuan raised a threatening fist. "You punk, you’d better not have any ideas, or I’ll punch your face into a swollen mess!"

"I wouldn’t dare, I wouldn’t dare. Brother Lu, you’re being a little too cautious. I’ve got no problems when it comes to women," Gu Gaoxu said, earnestly patting his chest.

"Keep bragging," Lu Yuan teased. "I’ve heard your wife is quite the spitfire and keeps you on a tight leash."

Gu Gaoxu pouted, not rising to the bait. He draped an arm over Lu Yuan’s shoulder and pulled him aside. Once they were five or six meters away from Su Liyan, he started whispering.

’There’s really no need for this,’ Lu Yuan and Su Liyan both thought. ’At this distance, Su Liyan can hear even the quietest whisper.’

Gu Gaoxu held out his right hand, rubbing his thumb and forefinger together. "Brother Lu," he whispered, "just name your price. Tell me, how much to sell this thing to me? Or maybe a few nights of wining and dining would do the trick?"

Lu Yuan shoved Gu Gaoxu away and shot him a look. Gu Gaoxu’s mercenary attitude left him speechless.

’A stampede of curses galloped through Lu Yuan’s mind. ’This damn rascal is always trying to tempt me with nights out. What if my wife hears him and takes it seriously? It’ll ruin our marital harmony!’’

Lu Yuan retorted, "This little car, do you even know how to drive it?"

"No, but I can learn! Brother Lu, just name your price. However many golden beans you want, I can get them," Gu Gaoxu said, patting something inside his robe.

A JINGLING sound could be heard, clearly the sound of metal objects colliding.

"Golden beans? You punk, where did you get golden beans!" Lu Yuan asked, curious.

Gu Gaoxu laughed heartily. "The factory we started! It made so much silver that the treasury couldn’t hold it all, so I had some of it exchanged for gold and commissioned a Goldsmith to shape it into golden beans."

Gu Gaoxu paused, then continued, "Heh, Brother Lu, you have no idea. When I toss these golden beans around, everyone bows down to thank me."

Gu Gaoxu pulled a handful of golden beans from his robe and dangled them in front of Lu Yuan.

’Lu Yuan was a little puzzled. ’Has Gu Gaoxu already developed a habit of playing with golden beans at this point in time?’’

Lu Yuan casually pointed to one of the small cars and said, "That one’s yours!"

Lu Yuan had guessed Gu Gaoxu would ask for a car on this trip to Yandu, so he had brought a few extras.

Even after giving one or two away, his two trusted aides could share one on the way back to Taiping City, so he would still have enough.

"Alright, deal! No take-backs!" Gu Gaoxu said excitedly, stuffing the handful of golden beans into Lu Yuan’s hand.

’Lu Yuan weighed the golden beans in his hand. ’Using the money we earned together to buy my stuff... only someone as shameless as Gu Gaoxu would do that.’’

Lu Yuan wasn’t really concerned about the handful of golden beans, though.

Gu Gaoxu waved to the guards behind him. "What are you standing around for, playing statues? Get this back for me!"

Clearly, Gu Gaoxu was afraid Brother Lu would go back on his word and couldn’t wait to take possession of it.

Lu Yuan chuckled helplessly. "You can’t just carry this car. Yandu is just up ahead, so we won’t be driving much farther. Why don’t you get in and let one of my trusted men teach you? You can drive it for fun outside the city later."

Gu Gaoxu unfastened the riding crop from his waist, tossed it to a guard, and eagerly hopped into the car, ready to experience this unknown pleasure.

In the Yan Mansion, King Yan and his eldest son, Gu Gaochi, were in the main hall discussing this year’s harvest and other matters when a servant came to report, "Your Majesty, Lord Lu, the Prefect of Dongchang, has arrived with his retinue five li outside of Yandu."

Upon hearing this, King Yan stood up. "Someone, have the kitchen prepare some simple dishes and wine. I am receiving a guest."

Seeing his father rise, the portly Gu Gaochi also scrambled to his feet, panting heavily as he stood to the side.

After King Yan finished giving his orders, Gu Gaochi said, "Father, my wife is still at home waiting for me for dinner. I won’t be joining you."

King Yan heard this and didn’t press him to stay.

After being carsick and throwing up for a while, Gu Gaoxu finally recovered. "Damn it," he groaned. "This thing is fun to ride, but it makes the world spin and my stomach can’t take it."

Lu Yuan pinched his nose with his left hand, turning his head away. He patted Gu Gaoxu’s back with his right hand and said, "You’ll get used to it after a few more rides. But if you really can’t handle it, then just forget it."

Bent over, Gu Gaoxu waved his hand. "I’m keeping it, I’m keeping it."

Once he’d recovered, Gu Gaoxu grabbed Lu Yuan’s hand and headed for the Yan Mansion. Meanwhile, Su Liyan and the trusted aides went to the luxurious private villa that King Yan had previously gifted them.

Lu Yuan and his group had never been to the villa before; Gu Gaoxu had sent a guide to lead them there.

As for Lu Yuan, he went to have an audience with King Yan immediately.

"Lord Lu, there’s no need for such formalities," King Yan said amiably.

King Yan insisted on having Lu Yuan stay for a meal, so Lu Yuan had no choice but to agree.

At the dinner table, King Yan and Lu Yuan had a lengthy discussion on various topics, from the daily lives of the common people to matters of governance.

Lu Yuan himself wasn’t an expert on these subjects, but thankfully he had read his history books. He was still able to offer some advice on what should and shouldn’t be done.

Gu Gaoxu had no interest in listening to any of this. He only liked matters of fighting and killing, believing that was what real men ought to be doing.

Gu Gaoxu was just holding his bowl and chopsticks, stuffing his face. He’d been dizzy from the car ride earlier and had thrown up everywhere, so now he was starving and felt weak all over.

In front of Lu Yuan, King Yan watched Gu Gaoxu’s disgraceful display. He rapped Gu Gaoxu’s hand with his chopsticks and bluntly scolded him, "Look at you! You can’t stand properly, you can’t sit properly, and you can’t even eat properly!"
