Chapter 772: I Am in Everything (4)
Millions of thunderbolts tear through the sky.
Like the light of dawn breaking through boundless dark clouds, transforming into the light of stars, falling upon the vast earth.
The furious roar of wind and thunder shakes the heavens and earth, carrying the ultimate destructive force, pulverizing everything tangible and intangible into dust. The cracks torn by countless dark polearms remain in the sky.
Silently, the earth’s veins are plowed into millions of bottomless trenches.
Only several seconds later does the endless windstorm rise, surging like a storm, stirring the deserts and oceans invisibly, raining down like a storm across the land.
After the strike, Enlil plunges into the deep sea, his fate unknown.
And the world before him has been thoroughly devastated into a dire state of near-collapse.
The planet’s surface is crisscrossed with ravines and bottomless canyons spewing core magma, deserts irrigated by millions of tons of seawater turned moist, the liquid rust-red sea level sinking hundreds of meters, its area vastly reduced.
Is that... the Spirit King?!
That unimaginably powerful force, beyond human comprehension, shakes all who witness it to their cores, feeling terrified yet immensely respectful.
The god-like powerful Enlil they revered is casually suppressed and tormented by the Spirit King with a mere flick of his hand.
The seawater tumultuously churns, a golden light breaking through the surface and leaping out.
Enlil, missing an arm and a leg, floats miserably mid-air, gasping heavily, his eyes filled with resentment and fury, staring intently at Lod’s position, wishing to tear him to shreds.
Among the vast clouds, hundreds of Lods in white robes stand in the air, calmly watching him.
Hundreds of kilometers apart, one above and one below, their gazes clash across the void, stirring currents in the ether.
"I can offer you a way out."
After a long silence, Lod slowly speaks, "I know a ruins of Akkad that can be used to house you."
It’s not that he acts out of kindness or pity for the Annunaki.
From the standpoint of interest, harboring the Annunaki has far more significant benefits than eradicating them.
After all, Enlil holds the ancient secrets about the ancient war in heaven, and even God and the Garden of Eden. Taking him under his wing could instantly strengthen his forces and deepen his understanding of past secrets.
The benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
"Hmph, are you pitying us?"
Upon hearing this, Enlil’s eyes flash with mockery as he wipes the blood from his lips, "Or do you now regret and wish to offer us charity to make up for your past mistakes?"
"You can think of it that way."
Lod lowers his gaze, responding coolly, "Whether pity or regret, what matters isn’t what I feel but what you choose to do. The fate of your people is in your hands; I hope you consider it carefully."
"The fate of your people?"
Enlil’s eyes lower, his fist clenched tightly, "If someone had said this six thousand years ago, perhaps I really would have agreed to abandon vengeance and return to the real universe, satisfied with just a place to settle."
Lod’s brows furrow slightly though he remains silent, waiting for Enlil’s explanation.
"But unfortunately... it’s too late now..."
Enlil’s gaze grows despondent, his expression a tragic smile of self-mockery, "From the moment we declared ourselves the Annunaki, there was no turning back, so I can’t accept your terms."
"Could it be..."
Lord’s eyes tremble slightly as if realizing something, looking towards the rust-red ocean, "You... have sacrificed to Ghroth?"
"You... know!"
Enlil’s chest heaves, shocked by the recognition, sighing, "We... indeed have."
But after a brief shock, his face reveals endless bitterness and regret, a complex mix of emotions painting his miserable visage.
The person before him truly knows ’the truth.’
Those who know this taboo name and have known God must have participated in that war.
Enlil’s mind swirls with myriad thoughts, which he swiftly suppresses, his gaze on Lod growing more somber. He was a survivor of that war, although only partaking in a fraction of it, yet he knows many hidden past events.
"What exactly... happened?"
Lod asks earnestly, "You must know how dangerous Ghroth is; why would you do this?"
"We... had no choice."
Enlil exhales deeply, his voice laden with sorrow, "Akkad once exhausted its resources to cast 1,800 temples of gold to seal Ghroth within this planet, securing peace for about ten thousand years."
"After Lucifer Morningstar sealed us, our access to mine gold was completely cut off."
"Six thousand years ago, we used the Akashic records to forge a pact with Asgard’s King of God Bor, hoping they would guide us back to the real universe in time to mine ample gold to repair the 1,800 temples."
"But you didn’t foresee that Asgard would ultimately break their promise." Lod closes his eyes, sighing deeply as he anticipates the rest of the story.
"Correct, they reneged on their promise."
Enlil sneers, his face etched with indescribable sarcasm, "The temples quickly lost their effect, Ghroth reawakened, and the corresponding songs triggered disasters and destruction."
"So, for the continuation of your people, you chose to sacrifice to Him." Lod’s eyes dim slightly, narrating the subsequent story.
"We... just wanted to live." 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Enlil’s gaze is sad, he speaks softly, "We begged for everything, but all we received in return was annihilation."
If Asgard had not betrayed their promise six thousand years ago, welcoming them back to the real universe to let Akkad repair the 1,800 temples, none of this would have happened.
The Akkadian were meant to be heroes who saved the world.
They expended their entire race’s effort, paying a grievous price in lives and blood, to forge the 1,800 temples, sealing the Outer God ’Ghroth.’ Yet, what awaited them was not glory as imagined but betrayal after betrayal.
God’s betrayal, Asgard’s betrayal, humanity’s betrayal...
Their long perseverance seemed like a joke.
Having witnessed the death of one tribesman after another and after several betrayals, Enlil’s faith, along with the awakening of Ghroth and the collapse of the 1,800 temples, crumbled.
Enlil sacrificed to Ghroth, becoming His follower.
The once god-born Akkadian eventually became the Annunaki, wielding the sword of vengeance against the world they once protected.
The truth is always cruel.
Akkadian was not wrong; their desire from the start was merely to survive.
"I won’t pity you, nor will I blame you."
Light like water flickers in the Lod’s eyes, and he speaks solemnly, "But since I cannot save you, let me at least offer you the most sincere respect."
The most tremendous respect he can offer to the once-magnificent civilization of Akkad is to exterminate them completely.
From the perspective of threats, both the Annunaki and Ghroth pose a profound threat to the safety of humans and all living beings in the universe; they are enemies and calamities that must be eradicated.
Akkadian truly deserves respect; they were real heroes.
So, he hopes to maintain at least the dignity they had as Akkadian through his own hands.
"Goodbye, Enlil."
Lod’s emotions settle, his formidable consciousness enveloping the world: "I am all things, and all things are me, thus... I exist within all things."
