Evander Lancaster froze again, his lips twitching. "When did that happen?"

"Back when we were in Banyan City!" Sophia Hamilton complained, all aggrieved. Evander finally understood why she’d suddenly brought up breaking up with him for no reason. The cigarette between his fingers had just reached his lips when he suddenly felt it was wrong, so he stubbed it out in the ashtray behind the seat instead, then hauled Sophia into his arms. A smile spilled into his phoenix eyes as he arched a handsome brow and asked,

"You broke up with me over that?"

"No shit!" Sophia snapped unhappily. Evander was amused by how wronged she looked. His long fingers pinched her nose as he laughed, "Little firecracker, aren’t you supposed to be so badass? Since when are you scared of my mom?"

"Who’s scared?" Sophia slapped his hand away. She wasn’t scared; she just had a lot of pride.

"If you’re not scared, why’d you cave, hmm?" Evander’s arms circled her waist, his brows raised, looking at her with a half-smile. Sophia licked her lips and said resentfully, "I’m not scared of your mom. I’m just pissed. What gives her the right to say I’m not good enough for you..."

"Oh?" The smile in Evander’s eyes deepened. "From the way you’re putting it... sounds more like I’m not good enough for you?"

"Duh! I, Sophia Hamilton, was born gorgeous. I might not have studied abroad, but I graduated from a top university. And you?" Sophia shamelessly boasted. As she spoke, she gave Evander’s handsome face an up-and-down once-over, then pulled a disgusted face. "You’re just... barely easy on the eyes, your job is whatever, and your character sucks. If it wasn’t for that stinking pile of family money, what woman would like you?"

The amusement in Evander’s phoenix eyes thickened. He leaned in closer on purpose and asked, "My character sucks?"

"Obviously. You use your position to take advantage of women. A guy like that has good character?"

"Just barely easy on the eyes?" Evander’s handsome brows lifted, his voice rising with them.

Sophia gave his handsome face another once-over and said with open disdain, "You’ll do, I guess."

"And if it wasn’t for the family money, I wouldn’t even find a girlfriend?"

"Of course. With a character like yours, if your family wasn’t loaded, what woman would be with you?" Sophia mercilessly exposed Evander’s dirty laundry. He raised his brows, teasing glint in his phoenix eyes.

His handsome face leaned in again, so close it was practically touching Sophia’s. He deliberately lowered his voice, speaking ambiguously. "So by your logic, the reason you’re with me... is because my family’s rich, hmm?"

She suddenly realized she’d dug a hole and jumped right into it herself.

Meeting Evander’s smiling eyes, she shoved his handsome face away and complained, "No way. If you hadn’t seduced and screwed me, and then sweet-talked my mom into taking your side, I would never have gotten together with you."

Evander deliberately furrowed his brows, though the laughter in his eyes was still obvious. He repeated, "Seduced and screwed?"

"Of course!" Sophia nodded, still not realizing she was walking step by step into Evander’s trap.

"Funny, I seem to remember it being mutual," Evander said, faking a troubled frown. Before Sophia could argue, he went on, "If it was ’seduced and screwed’ like you said, how come that ’one time’ lasted over a month? And you sure looked like you were enjoying yourself—every time you were moaning so—"

"You’re not allowed to say it!" Before Evander could finish, Sophia slapped a hand over his mouth, gritting her teeth, clearly furious and mortified.

"Hahaha..." Evander’s delighted laughter echoed through the car.
