Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1359 - 1353: Going Through the Motions
"How can that work? Didn’t you say, take it all? I’ve already taken the money. If I don’t go through the motions, it would be too uncouth. Your mom would think I’m a fraud!"
Sophia Hamilton spoke confidently, leaving Evander Lancaster speechless.
Is going back to her family’s home not considered being a fraud?
The little rascal actually tried to pull the wool over his eyes.
Seeing Evander Lancaster gloomily staring at her, Sophia Hamilton licked her lips and suggested, "How about this, I’ll just go home and stay for a few days, pretend to ignore you, and then you come to the company entrance every day to wait for me. This way, if your mom finds out, I won’t be blamed."
That’s what she planned when she accepted the check. After all, future mother-in-law relationships can’t be made too strained. If she takes the check but doesn’t leave, even if they’re accepted later, there would be a rift.
But if Evander Lancaster comes to the company entrance every day to "pester" her, it’s different. It’s him being persistent, not her being disloyal.
How could Evander Lancaster not understand Sophia Hamilton’s little schemes? His phoenix eyes turned cold as he asserted, "No way!"
In his excitement, Evander Lancaster’s voice was loud, attracting the side-glances of several dining guests. Yet at that moment, he didn’t have the mood to care about this, with a cold handsome face, cutting the steak quickly, almost like venting.
Sophia Hamilton...
Her eyes shifted, then she suddenly looked down in grievance, stroking her belly with a crying tone, "Baby, Daddy yelled at Mommy, Mommy feels really bad..."
Evander Lancaster...
Being a responsible man, he hated to see his woman sad, especially when pregnant. Even though he knew she was feigning grievance, he couldn’t bear it and stopped cutting the steak, still looking gloomy, "Eat quickly, after you finish, I’ll take you home."
Sophia Hamilton was immediately no longer grievance-filled, happily stroking her belly, "Baby, soon we’ll be going to Grandmother’s house!"
Evander Lancaster sighed helplessly, put down the knife and fork, took a sip of plain water, and turned his handsome face away, thinking about how he, a man always living freely like the wind for thirty years, was actually thoroughly taken by this little woman today!
Sophia Hamilton had a good appetite, after finishing the steak, she had dessert before she and Evander Lancaster left the restaurant together.
Having not been back to her family’s home for almost a week, Evander Lancaster took Sophia Hamilton to the supermarket and bought quite a lot of things—ingredients, snacks filled four eco-friendly bags. When coming out of the supermarket, Sophia Hamilton was still holding a bag of dried plums and chewing.
A half-hour journey, Evander Lancaster parked the car downstairs at Sophia Hamilton’s house, carrying four big bags, they entered the unit door one after the other.
"Mom, we’re back!" Sophia Hamilton raised her voice as she opened the door. Juliana Lancaster was sitting on the sofa watching TV. Seeing her daughter return, she pretended to be displeased and snapped, "What’s with the shouting? I heard you!"
"Mom."
Evander Lancaster politely greeted, ever since Sophia Hamilton moved to live with him, he changed how he addressed her. This was what made Juliana Lancaster most helpless.
The two were not married nor registered, yet every time he came over, he would address her this way. Initially, Juliana Lancaster would correct him to call her "Auntie," but now... she’s too lazy to say anymore.
"Hmm, Evander’s here?" Juliana Lancaster put on a smile, obviously out of courtesy. Her daughter was due in a few months, still without any status. Neighbors across the street had asked several times, "Sis, when did your little Sophia get married? Why haven’t I heard about it?"
Juliana Lancaster, being vain, could only lie with a smile, "Oh, they registered then went on a honeymoon, didn’t notify neighbors." To make it seem real, she even bought wedding candies to give to frequently contacted neighbors...
Now, every time Juliana Lancaster thinks about how she lied for this matter, she feels awkward inside.
