Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1365 - 1359: The Secret Contest Between Two Couples
"Haven’t had steak in a while?" Evander Lancaster asked again, seeing Titus Zane eat like his little pregnant wife.
"I had it two days ago," Titus Zane said, adding as he brought a slice of steak to his lips, "Nathan made it for me himself, heart-shaped."
Upon hearing about the heart-shaped steak, Sophia Hamilton looked up from her food, "Sister Zane, is heart-shaped steak tastier than the regular kind?"
But before Titus Zane could answer, Evander Lancaster interrupted unhappily, "Just eat your food; steak’s all the same no matter the shape."
Sophia Hamilton snorted discontentedly and buried her head back into her culinary battle.
Titus Zane leisurely cut into his steak, "Heart-shaped steak is definitely tastier."
Sophia Hamilton raised her head to ask what made it different, only to see Titus Zane turn to Nathan Moore. The couple exchanged a loving gaze between them.
"Because Nathan put thought into it, you can taste his love in every bite."
Sophia Hamilton...
Pursed her lips and continued eating; this unexpected PDA was hard to swallow.
Love wasn’t the issue for her at the moment; as long as whatever she wanted to eat appeared quickly, that would be fine.
Evander Lancaster...
Glanced at the couple across from him, pretending to have heard nothing.
Though he stayed silent, he was secretly thinking, spreading dog food doesn’t matter; in this era, actions speak louder than words, just look at his woman’s belly to understand.
No need to ask about deep love, having two kids in three years is the real proof!
After that, both couples focused on their meals. Not long after, a waiter brought over foie gras and a bottle of red wine that Titus Zane had ordered.
Seeing the waiter open that nearly six-figure bottle of red wine, Evander Lancaster was truly heartbroken. Sophia Hamilton, unaware of the wine’s price, took a quick glance then continued eating.
"Second brother, are you going bankrupt?" Evander Lancaster’s expression was pained, his phoenix eyes on that bottle of wine; he wanted to drink it, but with his woman pregnant—even having a driver wasn’t reassuring—he could only watch the shameless couple divvy up the spoils without doing anything.
"You’re the one going bankrupt," Nathan Moore replied blandly, his lips even curving slightly as he poured wine for Titus Zane—and then for himself.
"Why is your wife’s appetite so big today?" After finishing his steak, she ate half of Nathan Moore’s foie gras, now ordering another portion.
Nathan Moore set the wine bottle aside, raising an eyebrow, lifted his glass and turned to Titus Zane, but his words were aimed at Evander Lancaster, "Come on, isn’t it normal to order something nice when you’re not paying yourself?"
The couple clinked their glasses, each taking a sip, and Evander Lancaster could only watch as his temple throbbed.
"Second brother," rubbing his temple to ease the pounding pain, he said, "Second brother, you can’t do this, can’t build your happiness on someone else’s suffering."
Nathan Moore put down his wine glass, seemingly helpless, and looked at Evander Lancaster, "Fourth brother, that’s where you’re wrong. I heard you won the lottery, yet you’re still feeling the pinch of losing that money?"
Evander Lancaster was about to retort when Sophia Hamilton, at his side, couldn’t bear it anymore, especially since their company president took such good care of her. She glared at him reproachfully, patting her chest generously, "I’ll pay today!"
Nathan Moore raised his eyebrows slightly, "Sister-in-law is quite generous."
Titus Zane continued to eat foie gras, while Sophia Hamilton seemed to be in good spirits because of Nathan Moore’s affectionate "sister-in-law."
Evander Lancaster turned his gaze to her, his phoenix eyes filled with grievance.
Sophia Hamilton acted generously, but when the waiter presented the bill in front of her, she was dumbfounded.
150,000—a meal costing two and a half years of her salary—who could tell her if the restaurant made a mistake...
"Uh, could you please recalculate this? Did you make a mistake?" Sophia Hamilton felt her shoulder bag, where there was a bank card of half a million that had just been cashed out.
"No, ma’am, the bill from our restaurant is generated by computer, so there shouldn’t be any errors, but if you like, you can check it over yourself."
The waiter remained bowing, presenting that bill, only for the tall waiters to get tired of bowing too long.
Sophia Hamilton’s trembling hand accepted the bill. Across the table, Nathan Moore and his wife continued elegantly, as if nothing happened, sipping plain water, beside her, Evander Lancaster showed a face of numbness, with no intention of helping at all.
Sophia Hamilton matched the items on the bill with what she’d ordered. Upon seeing the price of that bottle of wine, her eyes widened, her blood pressure spiking instantly.
Good grief, 99,988—could it be a rip-off joint!
Even a rip-off joint couldn’t charge that high. A hundred thousand bucks, wow...
Sophia Hamilton wanted to cry.
She tugged on Evander Lancaster’s sleeve, "I didn’t bring that much money, lend me some."
It was obvious Sophia Hamilton didn’t want to pay.
Evander Lancaster tossed the napkin onto the table, "No cash, but isn’t there a card in your bag!"
"Evander..."
Sophia Hamilton pouted in a playful, cutesy manner, but Evander Lancaster remained unmoved, while Titus Zane secretly chuckled, putting down the glass of water, reaching for her bag to find a card.
"Sophia, don’t trouble Evander, I’ll cover this meal."
Titus Zane acted kindly and generously, but Sophia Hamilton refused immediately; after all, it was a matter of face—she had said she’d pay, how could she let someone else foot the bill!
Immediately she shook off Evander Lancaster’s sleeve, glaring indignantly at him, "No need, Sister Zane, I have money, worst case, the baby goes hungry!"
Sophia Hamilton produced the bank card from her shoulder bag and slapped it onto the table. The waiter reached out to take it, but Evander Lancaster pressed his hand down.
Turning his head, his phoenix eyes looking at Sophia Hamilton, a hint of laughter in them, "I’ll pay, just come home with me tonight."
As long as she didn’t have to pay, she’d do whatever was asked. Sophia Hamilton nodded adamantly, "Okay, okay, let’s go home," seeing Evander Lancaster take out a wallet from his suit’s hidden pocket and pass the card to the waiter, she immediately cozied up to him arm-in-arm.
"I knew you were the best."
Across the table, Nathan Moore and his wife continued drinking water nonchalantly, while Evander Lancaster picked up Sophia Hamilton’s bank card, helping her tuck it back into her shoulder bag, speaking gently, "Next time, be smarter, like sister-in-law, just say it, don’t make it real."
Sophia Hamilton...
Titus Zane...
"Cough, cough..." The water just swallowed choked the throat.
Nathan Moore turned to soothe Titus Zane’s back, unhappily, glaring over, "A big man, pettier than women, no wonder you’ve been single for so long."
Evander Lancaster...
"Second brother, don’t be so sharp-tongued, okay? How long have you been off the market?"
"Hmph!"
Nathan Moore coldly chuckled, lightly wiping Titus Zane’s lips with a napkin, gentle eyes, "I went wild years ago."
Finishing, intentionally asking Titus Zane to confirm, "Isn’t that right, wife?"
Actually, Sophia Hamilton didn’t want to join in, knowing she’d have to work under Nathan Moore’s watchful eye. However, she couldn’t stand the couple’s smugness, so she deliberately cupped her belly and let out a soft "Oh."
"What’s wrong, Sophia?" Evander Lancaster hurriedly turned over, his face changed, while Sophia Hamilton gently rubbed her tummy, "The baby just kicked me," she said forlornly.
Sophia Hamilton’s words immediately deflated the couple across the table.
