Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!
Chapter 1004: Holding Grudges Against the Darkness
Jasper Jones shook his head and said, "He apologized to me. It feels like he’s changed a lot since I last saw him. Maybe being with you has changed him?"
Vanessa Sterling hesitated for a moment, then explained, "I’m not with him. I haven’t seen him for a long time."
Jasper was taken aback and said in surprise, "I thought it was because of you that he changed so much."
Vanessa just smiled without saying anything.
Perhaps it had something to do with her, but whether it did or not was no longer important to her.
Miles Sterling being able to change was naturally a good thing, but if he couldn’t, that was a problem he needed to overcome himself.
Seeing that Vanessa seemed unwilling to discuss Miles Sterling further, Jasper changed the subject and said, "By the way, I actually came over today because I have some news to tell you."
Vanessa looked puzzled as she watched Jasper take a small red booklet out of his pocket and said with a smile, "I’m getting married next month. If you have time, you must come."
Vanessa raised her eyebrows with a look of surprise, smiling as she accepted the invitation, "Congratulations."
Opening the invitation, she saw the wedding photo printed on it.
The girl in the photo looked gentle and sunny.
Jasper smiled and said, "I met her when I was in the hospital. At first, I didn’t plan on agreeing because I was afraid my leg wouldn’t heal and I’d hold her back. But she stayed with me and got through those tough times."
Vanessa chuckled and teased, "You still have quite a way with women."
"Don’t make fun of me. By the way, she’s a huge fan of your comics. She was eagerly following the drama adaptation from a while back. So, if you can come to the wedding, it would be a huge surprise for her."
"I’ll make time to come." Seeing that Jasper had moved past his old experiences, Vanessa was genuinely happy for him.
In truth, she had always been afraid to reach out to Jasper because she feared he might blame her in his heart.
After all, even though Jasper’s ordeal was caused by Miles Sterling, it was triggered by her.
And when they were together, she knew that Jasper truly loved her.
Jasper had been trying hard to fulfill all those promises and vows.
But she was merely trying to adapt and accept; at that time, she wasn’t sure what love truly looked like.
So, even though she accepted Jasper’s confession, she didn’t provide him the love she should have as a partner.
Before she had the chance to make amends, Jasper seemed to have completely let go.
In contrast, she couldn’t let go of the mistakes Miles Sterling had made in the past.
She wasn’t sure if it was because she was too narrow-minded.
Everyone said that Miles Sterling was different now than before, and even she could feel it.
But no matter how much compensation Miles Sterling offered her, it felt like her heart was still holding on to those past shadows.
Should she look at the current Miles Sterling with an open heart?
Half a month later, after attending Jasper’s wedding, the couple thoughtfully booked her a room, hoping she would stay the night.
However, Vanessa had classes the next day, so she took a late-night high-speed train home around ten o’clock.
She booked a window seat, listening to music with her headphones on.
Though the journey was tiring, attending that warm and sweet wedding brought her a lot of feelings and happiness.
Seeing the happiness of those around her seemed to bring her contentment too.
After an hour-long journey, she arrived at the station by midnight, and the subway had already stopped running.
She walked to the taxi lane, queued up behind the crowd waiting for a car.
It had been a long time since she was out so late by herself, which made her feel a little vigilant.
