Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!
Chapter 988: Are You Afraid I’ll Lie to You?
Evelyn Linton suddenly realized that everyone’s eyes were on her. She snapped back to reality, hurriedly waving her hand to explain, "It’s not..."
Before she could finish, Scott Sutton pulled her into the room and boldly introduced, "Her name is Evelyn Linton. Evelyn—a bit late, like night."
Hazel Yates was the first to react, eagerly welcoming Evelyn with an uncontrollable smile, "Evelyn, come sit inside."
Evelyn hadn’t expected Scott Sutton to make such a move; she had no idea how to respond, awkwardly taken to the sofa in the living room by Hazel Yates.
"Are you hungry? Is there anything you’d like to eat? I’ll make you a late-night snack," Hazel offered.
Evelyn gave a dry laugh and waved her hand, while Scott added, "Mom, there’s no need. We just got back from dinner."
Hazel Yates gave Scott a mild glare, "You! Coming back without a word, without picking a suitable moment."
Scott reached out to pull Evelyn up from the sofa and lightly told the awakened crowd, "Just wanted to introduce her to you. You can go back to sleep. It’s time for me to take her home to rest."
Hazel Yates suggested, "Stay over, and we can have lunch together tomorrow."
Scott replied, "I’ll bring her over for lunch tomorrow."
The sudden arrival followed by the sudden departure left the whole family a bit bewildered.
Evelyn returned to the car with Scott; it wasn’t until they drove past the intersection that she found her thoughts again. Frowning, she scolded, "Are you out of your mind?"
Scott glanced at her softly, "What’s the matter?"
Evelyn complained, "Even joking has its limits! Pranking me is one thing, but involving your family too—how are you going to explain this later?"
Scott laughed despite himself, asking, "You still think I’m joking?"
Evelyn paused, listening as Scott continued, "Do you truly not know I like you, or are you just pretending?"
For a moment, Evelyn’s mind, filled with complex emotions, was overtaken by a cloud of pink bubbles.
The car slowly arrived beneath the apartment building. After parking, Scott didn’t immediately open the car door but instead turned to Evelyn, "Do you dislike me, or do you simply not believe I like you?"
Evelyn’s scrambled thoughts couldn’t quite grasp the meaning of Scott’s words, only hearing him say, "If you don’t like me, I’ll give you time to like me; if you just don’t believe I like you, then once you awake, we’ll head to the registry office."
When it came to this certificate matter, Evelyn began to reassess Scott.
Reflecting on Scott’s earlier question, it wasn’t that she compared her feelings for Scott, but more that she always felt Scott was unlikely to like her.
Yet seeing Scott’s serious demeanor now, it didn’t seem like a joke, though it was truly incredible.
Evelyn placed her hand on the car door handle, saying to Scott, "Wait until you’re sober before you speak."
Scott lightly countered, "Then if I’m sober tomorrow morning and maintain what I said, do you agree to be with me or refuse?"
The straightforward question left Evelyn unsure how to answer.
Scott tilted his head, studying Evelyn, "Are you afraid I’m deceiving you?"
Evelyn faced the car door, finding it wouldn’t open.
Scott reached over to unlock the door, and Evelyn immediately pushed it open, feeling like her face was about to explode as she stood beside the car door, "Let’s talk once you’re clear-headed tomorrow. Calm yourself down; I’ll think it over too..."
