Chapter 327 - 227: When a Lie Becomes Truth, the Truth Also Becomes a Lie
Agatha looked shocked.
Dalia and Matthew wore the same expressions.
Fang Zhen remained noncommittal, not answering the question directly.
Agatha, however, let her imagination run wild. The more she looked at Fang Zhen, the more she saw the heir of Sword Saint Augustus.
’That’s right. The legendary Sword Saint Augustus was also unusually tall, had a head of black hair, and possessed a resolute and valiant personality. He was known for being incredibly decisive.’
"Fang Zhen... No, I should call you Fang Augustus. Your physical features perfectly match the descriptions of Sword Saint Augustus from the legends. So, so you’re his descendant by blood!"
Agatha said.
Fang Zhen was a little surprised.
’It’s a pure coincidence that Augustus’s physical description is so similar to mine. It’s easy for people to make the connection to a blood inheritance.’
But Fang Zhen knew he had no connection to Augustus whatsoever.
He could only produce the Double-headed Eagle Badge because he had found it in the Goblin Camp right after entering the Nameless World.
The game had identified the badge as an important clue, so he had kept it with him. He never expected it to have such a use and origin.
Speaking of which, this Double-headed Eagle Badge should have been carried by Matthew, but it was plundered by the goblins.
’Didn’t Matthew recognize it?’
Fang Zhen glanced over at Matthew.
Matthew, just beginning to recover from his shock, seemed to have thought of something. He stared at the Double-headed Eagle Badge and opened his mouth a few times, but ultimately said nothing.
’Matthew must have remembered something, but he isn’t speaking up for some reason.’
A look of sudden realization also appeared on Dalia’s face. As if remembering something, she let out a cry of surprise, "Ah!"
Matthew’s expression changed. From an angle where his body blocked Agatha’s view, he forcefully tugged on the corner of Dalia’s clothes twice.
Dalia was quick to react. She immediately snapped back to her senses and covered her mouth.
Agatha looked over, and Dalia smoothly said, "I can’t believe it. So, so Fang Zhen is actually a descendant of Sword Saint Augustus."
"I was so excited that I cried out."
Agatha found this explanation reasonable and didn’t think any more of it.
Fang Zhen observed the reactions of the three people before him, discerning the inner thoughts of Agatha, Matthew, and Dalia.
He could see that Agatha was genuinely astonished and truly believed she was meeting a descendant of the Augustus Clan.
Matthew had been surprised at first, but he likely remembered the Double-headed Eagle Badge was the very one he had lost on the Dark Path. Since Fang Zhen had cleared out the Goblin Camp, it wasn’t strange that he would have the badge. Matthew therefore realized Fang Zhen was probably not a true descendant of Augustus.
But Matthew reacted quickly.
He probably realized that even if Fang Zhen wasn’t a true descendant of the Augustus Clan, it was far more beneficial for everyone in their current situation if Fang Zhen had a noble title.
From that perspective, why quibble over the truth? Even if Fang Zhen didn’t have the Sword Saint’s blood, the situation required him to, and so he could be.
Matthew was quite clever; once he figured this out, he kept his mouth shut.
Dalia had probably reached the same conclusion. There was no reason for Matthew to possess a badge from the Augustus Family, so it was most likely an heirloom Dalia had inherited. This made sense, as an ancestor of the Cristin Family had been a sworn brother to Sword Saint Augustus. They had founded the Zambein Kingdom together, so it was reasonable for the badge to have been entrusted to the Cristin Family.
Dalia had been about to blurt out the truth but was stopped by the quicker-witted Matthew.
Dalia also realized that regardless of whether Fang Zhen was a true descendant of Augustus, it was more advantageous for her to just act as if he were.
While Matthew and Dalia didn’t expose the truth, Agatha was rather excited.
"Sword Saint Augustus was my idol when I was learning Swordsmanship. I never, ever imagined... that you would have such an identity and origin. No wonder you are so valiant." Agatha’s face was slightly flushed, perhaps from the excitement of seeing a legend come to life.
"Besides the badge, did Sword Saint Augustus leave anything else that could prove a descendant’s identity?" Fang Zhen asked.
"Besides the badge, there might only be some documents, but the family badge is proof enough," Agatha said. "There is ample evidence proving that the Double-headed Eagle Badge, which represents the heritage of the Augustus Clan, has a special ability. It can only be activated when held by a member of the Augustus Clan, at which point it will emit a golden light as brilliant as the sun."
"The badge itself is an Extraordinary Item, and it can only be used by a blood descendant of the Augustus Clan."
"Oh?" After hearing this, Fang Zhen wore a thoughtful expression for a moment, then made a move.
He directly took his un-converted source power and infused it into the Double-headed Eagle Badge as an activation force.
In an instant, the Double-headed Eagle Badge transformed. A dazzling golden radiance, like a miniature sun, burst forth. It was blindingly bright. The golden light filled the entire reception room, dyeing the space in a sheet of gold, as if it were a Divine Kingdom. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
The light shone for five or six seconds, only ceasing when Fang Zhen stopped pouring his source power into the Double-headed Eagle Badge.
Fang Zhen was a bit surprised, but it also felt logical.
The Augustus Family’s Double-headed Eagle Badge was likely activated by bloodline. To use an analogy, it was like a lock that could only be opened by a special key, and that key was the family’s blood.
But Fang Zhen was using his source power, which was equivalent to a super master key, capable of opening all locks of this type in this world at a fundamental level.
