Chapter 351 - 235: ’Golden Mountain and Silver Sea’ (Part 1)
Fang Zhen kept these thoughts to himself.
There was no point in saying anything. Reputation and ability were proven by actions and results.
"I will be gone for a day and a half. Mansa, Finn, Agatha, tomorrow afternoon, you are to lead a five-hundred-man supply convoy and meet me at a designated location."
He spoke, pointing to a place on the map.
Suspicion flickered in Mansa’s eyes; he felt as if Fang Zhen was about to shirk his duties and run off.
Finn and Agatha, however, responded promptly.
However, none of them were certain whether Fang Zhen actually had the ability to conjure up that many military supplies.
"Return to your daily duties," Fang Zhen said.
Filled with doubt and unease, Mansa and the others left the main tent, while Fang Zhen asked Matthew to stay behind.
"Matthew, go to the Ashton Territory," Fang Zhen said. "I previously sent a soldier to inform Dalia. Have her prepare the Gold Ropes; I’ll need to use them in the coming period."
Besides being a Priest of the Tade Church, Matthew was also Fang Zhen’s brother-in-law, in a manner of speaking. In the Nameless World, he was considered one of Fang Zhen’s own. He was an upright man, so he could be trusted with important matters.
"Alright, I’ll leave at once." Matthew nodded. Then, still worried, he asked, "About the supplies..."
"Don’t worry. It’s no problem," Fang Zhen said.
It was hard to say if Matthew truly believed him, but Fang Zhen’s confident demeanor reassured him somewhat.
Having received his orders, Matthew left the tent.
After his subordinates had all left, Fang Zhen suddenly shook his head.
’The nobles here are so damn poor. It feels like everyone from Viscounts to Dukes is constantly just putting out fires. Their reserves of supplies and wealth are extremely limited. They’re all living on the brink, ready to collapse at any moment.’
’Just when their supply lines are about to collapse, these armies manage to squeeze some resources from somewhere, securing supplies for another few days or half a month, and so they survive a little longer.’
’If they fail, their faction collapses. The result? Their territory is carved up and plundered by other nobles who are just as desperate for resources. The commoners suffer horribly, unable to survive. Meanwhile, the nobles who snatch the loot get a fresh infusion, like a blood bag, allowing them to last a while longer. They hold out until the next noble falls, and then, like vultures, they swoop in to devour the corpse.’
’It’s so cruel.’
’If life is this hard for the nobility, what must it be like for the common folk?’
’It’s time for someone to step up, end all this, and get things back on track.’
Fang Zhen dared to take command of this army because, naturally, he had his reasons to be confident.
It was just a matter of supplies, after all.
In the Nameless World, resources were scarce. Amid the chaos of war, self-sufficiency was a struggle, making it genuinely difficult to procure supplies.
However, behind Fang Zhen stood a great industrial nation, a commercial society with an incredible abundance of products.
Where he came from, a lack of goods was never the problem. On the contrary, the real issues were insufficient market size and inadequate consumption.
Being backed by a super industrial power with a complete supply chain—that was the true source of Fang Zhen’s confidence.
Dump industrial products into the Nameless World, and all his problems would be solved.
Moreover, while maintaining an army was a massive drain on resources for other nobles, for Fang Zhen, it wasn’t necessarily an expense. In fact, it could even be profitable.
He could make a fortune.
Fang Zhen already had a plan for how to secure the army’s supplies and make a fortune doing it.
He walked out of his tent, summoned his Red Hare Warhorse, and left the camp, galloping toward the Light Gate from which he had arrived.
...
The Light Gate wasn’t far from the army’s encampment, and Fang Zhen found it in less than half an hour.
He recalled the Red Hare Warhorse’s Crystal Bone and stepped through the Light Gate. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
In an instant, Fang Zhen was back in his living room.
He quickly removed his armor, changed into casual clothes, and picked up his phone from the coffee table to fire off messages to several people.
In less than three minutes, he had sent seven or eight messages.
Some were directives for his company employees: contact factories in Xiahai that produced instant noodle cakes and prepared meals, and get in touch with large warehouse-style supermarkets. The other messages were for his influential contacts in Xiahai, asking them for a favor.
The content of those messages was simple.
Silver. He wanted silver. And he was buying it at a high price!
