My Magical Girl System
Chapter 208: Black Hydra
The corridor opened into a vast, circular chamber, its ceiling lost in darkness. The air was cold and still, carrying the faint scent of damp stone and something that had been waiting for a long time.
At the far end of the chamber, a massive stone door stood. Its surface was covered in intricate carvings of twisting serpents, their bodies coiling around one another in an endless loop. The carvings seemed to shift in the dim light, as if they were alive.
Andrey stepped forward, placing his palm against the cold stone. The carvings pulsed faintly, and a low rumble echoed through the chamber as the door began to slide open, revealing the darkness beyond.
The team readied their weapons, stepping forward as the door fully opened.
The chamber beyond was vast, its walls lined with jagged stalactites that dripped with moisture. The floor was uneven, covered in a thick layer of pale dust. And in the center of the chamber, coiled around a massive stone pillar, was the floor boss.
A hydra.
Its body was massive, covered in glistening black scales that seemed to drink the light. Its serpentine form coiled around the pillar, muscles shifting beneath the dark armor of its hide. From its neck, seven heads rose, each one identical to the next. Their eyes glowed with a cold, malevolent light, and their tongues flicked out, tasting the air. When they opened their mouths, rows of jagged teeth gleamed in the dim light.
[Black Hydra – Floor Boss]
Andrey’s gaze locked onto the hydra, his eyes tracing its form as he assessed the threat. "This is the floor boss. Stay together. Don’t let it split us apart."
Sarah’s hands trembled slightly as she stared at the seven heads, each one moving independently, tracking their every movement. "That’s a hydra... A real hydra. I’ve heard stories about them, but I’ve never seen one before."
Sein stepped forward, her flames flickering to life around her fists. "Seven heads means seven targets. We just need to cut them all off at once." Her eyes gleamed with the thrill of the fight. "No problem."
Hope stepped up beside her, her greatsword gleaming. "Seven heads, and each one can act independently. We need to coordinate carefully."
Lisa’s barrier shimmered around the team, her voice steady. "I’ll keep everyone protected. Focus on the heads, and don’t let it corner you."
Andrey held his staff, his gaze fixed on the hydra. "We move in formation. Sein, take the left flank. Hope, right flank. Sarah, center support. Lisa, stay mobile and keep the barrier up. I’ll take the front."
The Black Hydra let out a low, rumbling hiss. Its seven heads turned in unison, each pair of eyes locking onto a different member of the team.
The hydra’s tails lashed out, a sweeping motion aimed at the group. Andrey moved first, stepping forward and raising his staff to block. The tail struck with enough force to send him skidding back, his boots carving grooves in the stone.
"Sein, now!" he shouted.
Sein launched herself at the hydra’s left flank, her fist blazing. "Crimson Impact!" She slammed into the base of one of its necks, forcing the head to recoil.
Hope swung her greatsword from the right, carving a deep gash across another neck. The head let out a sharp hiss, retreating slightly.
Andrey used Phantom Step to close the distance, striking the hydra’s body with his staff. "Lisa, reinforce the barrier!"
Lisa’s hands glowed as she expanded the barrier, covering the team as the hydra’s heads snapped toward them. The black scales were tough, and the hydra’s movements were fast, its heads striking from multiple angles.
But the team held their ground.
The Black Hydra’s seven heads moved in perfect coordination, each one attacking from a different angle. One head spat a stream of corrosive acid toward Lisa, forcing her to reinforce her barrier. Another head unleashed a wave of dark energy that swept across the chamber. A third head lunged forward, jaws snapping toward Sarah.
Sarah dodged, rolling to the side as the jaws closed on empty air. "It’s attacking from every direction!"
Sein launched herself at one of the heads, flames roaring. "Crimson Impact!" Her fist connected with the side of the head, but the scales were thick, and the hydra barely flinched. The head turned and retaliated with a burst of dark energy, sending Sein skidding back.
Andrey’s staff extended, striking a head that had been about to bite Hope. "Lisa, can you strengthen the barrier? We need more protection!"
Lisa’s hands glowed brighter, the barrier thickening. But the hydra’s attacks were relentless—acid, dark energy, and physical strikes came in rapid succession, each one testing the barrier’s limits.
Hope swung her greatsword, carving a gash across one of the heads. The wound healed almost instantly, the flesh knitting together before her eyes. "It’s regenerating! We need to cut off the heads simultaneously!"
Andrey’s mind raced. "Sein, Sarah, focus on one head at a time! Hope, cover the right flank! I’ll draw the main body’s attention!"
The hydra’s heads hissed, their movements becoming faster, more coordinated. Andrey moved to the front, his staff raised, channeling Ki into the weapon. "Lisa, keep the barrier up! Everyone, hit the center head together!"
Sein, Sarah, and Hope launched their attacks in unison, their combined power slamming into the hydra’s central head. The impact was devastating, and the central head convulsed, its neck bending at an unnatural angle. Black ichor sprayed across the chamber floor, and for a moment, the hydra’s movements faltered. The remaining heads recoiled, disoriented.
But then the central head snapped back to its original position. The wound closed instantly, the regeneration faster than before.
Sarah’s eyes widened. "It’s healing even faster now!"
Lisa struggled to maintain the barrier as the hydra’s attacks grew more aggressive, the dark energy bursts becoming larger and more frequent. The barrier cracked under the strain.
Andrey stepped in front of Lisa, his staff glowing. "Keep the barrier up! Sein, Hope—we need to take out multiple heads at once!"
Sein’s flames roared. "Crimson Cataclysm!" A wave of fire swept across the hydra’s necks, burning through the scales of two heads.
Hope’s greatsword swung in a wide arc, carving through a third neck. "Radiant Judgment!" The golden energy exploded on impact, severing the head cleanly.
Andrey used Phantom Step to close the distance, his staff extended. "Ki Blade!" He swung, the pale blue energy slicing through a fourth neck.
But even as the heads fell, new ones began to grow from the stumps, their scales darker, their eyes brighter.
Sein’s jaw tightened. "It’s regenerating faster! We’re not making progress!"
The hydra let out a furious roar, its remaining heads snapping toward the team. A massive wave of dark energy erupted from its body, slamming into the team and shattering Lisa’s barrier. The group was thrown back, crashing against the walls.
Andrey pushed himself to his feet, wiping blood from his lip. "It’s going to take more than just cutting off heads. We need to hit its core."
Lisa struggled to stand, her body bruised and battered from the impact. Her hands were shaking as she tried to summon another barrier, but the mana was slow to respond. "Andrey... I can’t keep the barrier up for much longer," she said, her voice strained. "It’s using too much dark energy. The regeneration is getting faster every time we cut a head off."
Sarah groaned, pushing herself up from the debris. "Then we stop playing its game. We go for the core directly."
Hope stood, her greatsword still in hand, her armor cracked but her eyes still sharp. "If we can get past its heads and hit the main body, we might be able to slow down the regeneration."
Andrey stood at the front, his staff in hand. The hydra was circling them, its remaining heads hissing as it prepared for another attack. "The core is hidden beneath its scales, somewhere along its main body. We need to crack it open first."
