My Scheming Little Devil
Chapter 143 You Will Pay the Price_1
What a shameless gold digger, tricking him and pressuring grandfather into making him marry her. It disgusts him.
"Grandfather, I’ve told you nothing happened between us that night. I don’t owe her anything, and I don’t want to marry her!" He said coldly, "I find her filthy."
Old Sir Shang frowned: "Jingchen, watch your words. You’re too prejudiced against her. She’s a good girl. You’ll understand her goodness once you’ve spent enough time with her."
"It’s you who’s deceived, grandfather. She’s nothing more than a shameless woman who’d do anything to marry into a wealthy family." Shang Jingchen anxiously looked at him.
"I have met more people and can judge character more accurately than you. This time, listen to me. I won’t lead you astray in regards to your lifelong happiness. I’ve never asked you for anything. Can’t you do me this one favor?" Old Sir Shang said, looking at him.
Shang Jingchen’s heart ached. He couldn’t bear to see his beloved grandfather, pleading with him.
Having lost his father at a young age and having a strained relationship with his mother, his grandfather was like his father, always doting and taking care of him. Once, when he fell into a frozen lake in winter, had his grandfather not rescued him, he would have died.
As a result, his grandfather developed severe rheumatism, which often flared up in winter.
Therefore, his grandfather was the one person he could not disobey, and he did not want to upset him.
"Grandfather, I..."
"Are you really making me kneel before you to beg?" Old Sir Shang stood up.
Caught off guard, Shang Jingchen quickly helped him up. Thinking of Yuan Jiayin, his heart felt torn apart. Reluctantly he said, "Alright, I will do as you ask."
Shang Jingchen, having lost his spirit, walked out of the study. In the side hall, he saw Ye Lu fully engrossed in reading a law book. His face darkened and, overcome with rage, he strode over and grabbed her harshly.
"So you’re quite relaxed, aren’t you? It seems you’ve known all along that things would go your way. You must be satisfied now. I have agreed to marry you upon grandfather’s insistence." Shang Jingchen’s hatred for her was bone-deep.
Ye Lu trembled slightly, looking at him fearfully, his eyes dark and menacing. She had worried that Shang Jingchen would refuse.
If he refused, she didn’t know what to do. She couldn’t get the betrothal gifts back, nor retrieve her child. Everything would be over.
She hadn’t expected that Old Sir Shang would persuade him so quickly.
She was well prepared for his fury.
"I’m sorry, and... thank you!" She said sincerely and apologetically. She had promised not to ruin the relationship between him and Yuan Jiayin, yet reality was a cruel irony.
For her child, she was selfish. She destroyed his happiness, and she felt genuinely remorseful towards him.
"Don’t be hypocritical, do you think you owe me an apology? You truly are a shameless woman."
Shang Jingchen’s rage intensified, gripping her shoulder, as though wishing he could wring her neck.
"Ye Lu, don’t think that just because I’m marrying you, you can enjoy being Madam Shang, give birth to our child and gain all the Shang family’s wealth. I won’t make life easy for you. Wait and see, you will pay the price for this."
Shang Jingchen pushed her away fiercely, grabbed his coat and stormed out of the Shang residence.
Ye Lu’s face turned pale. Gritting her teeth, she was mentally prepared for all types of humiliation and blame.
Old Sir Shang said that he hoped she would fulfill her role as the wife of the Shang family well and win Jingchen’s heart with her gentleness.
She wanted to say it was impossible, as Jingchen didn’t love her and only harbored deep hatred for her. But she had accepted the seven hundred million betrothal gifts. It was a trade-off; she should try her best to fulfill Old Sir Shang’s wish and do what a wife of the Shang family should do.
