My Space Connects to the Apocalyptic World
Chapter 128: Do You Still Remember Me?
On the way to the police station, Chi Wan had her hand in her pocket, toying with the special reagent.
Li Xingye had told her it was something new their base had developed. It could scramble a person’s mind, making it very convenient for extracting information.
Coincidentally, Xiahou Yu was just saying, "Wanwan, I doubt those men will give up the person behind them easily."
Chi Wan tilted her head to look at him. "So, are we handing them over to the police just to keep them locked up a little longer?"
Xiahou Yu nodded. "Breaking and entering, whether for robbery or other purposes, is a criminal offense in itself, so handing them over to the police is perfectly reasonable. Besides, the kind of people He Lingfeng can find are probably not clean. Keeping them detained longer gives us a better chance to find clues."
The ideal scenario would be to find a connection between them and the He Family, or even He Lingfeng himself.
But Chi Wan knew the chances of that were slim.
Let alone if the men stubbornly insisted they just saw Chi Wan living alone and got the idea to steal something. In that case, no matter what, it would just be "attempted burglary."
After all, they hadn’t managed to get inside, so Chi Wan hadn’t suffered any financial loss. The police wouldn’t have any particularly effective way to deal with them, and the final outcome might just be a few days of detention.
Chi Wan suddenly felt a twinge of regret. At the time, she had been in a hurry to get on a plane and wasn’t sure what they were trying to do. Her only thought was to get them caught quickly.
Thinking back now, it might have been better to have Lili grant them access through the main door.
"If I’d known, I would have let them in and caught them in the act."
Hearing the frustration in Chi Wan’s voice, Xiahou Yu comforted her, "There are pros and cons. At least this proves that with Lili around, your safety is guaranteed as long as no one’s taking a chainsaw to the door."
"Besides, catching them isn’t our ultimate goal. These guys are just small fry. The real problem we need to solve is He Lingfeng."
Chi Wan nodded. "You’re right. As long as He Lingfeng is still around, catching more of his men won’t do much good."
’But it’s strange,’ she thought. ’Why has Li Xingye gone silent after giving me the reagent? That’s not like him.’
’At the very least, he should be making some sour remarks to show his displeasure with Xiahou Yu, right?’
But with Xiahou Yu sitting right next to her, she couldn’t just ask about it out loud.
What Chi Wan didn’t know was that Li Xingye was actually sulking by himself.
Every time Chi Wan needed him, he, as her boyfriend, couldn’t be by her side. He could only watch others bustling about to help her, and it left a bitter taste in his mouth.
Duan Qianyu, pestered by his daily question—"How can we more safely establish a channel to Wanwan’s world?"—had gotten so annoyed she’d completely blocked him.
As a result, he now had to go through Qiangzi just to reach Duan Qianyu.
But after a couple of times, Qiangzi pleaded with a pained expression, "Boss, please don’t make me do this. If this keeps up, Qianyu will start ignoring me too." Li Xingye was utterly helpless.
Fortunately, Li Xingye had been busy with plenty of important matters during this time. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Using the "future" visions shared by Ding Yao, Li Xingye had indeed learned many things he wouldn’t have known at this stage.
This included the leader of Dawn Base, why he was so eager to plunder the healers from Baiyi Base, and the details of their experiments.
But more importantly, amidst these chaotic futures, he saw a real, tangible possibility of opening a stable space-time channel.
Therefore, regarding this incident with He Lingfeng, even though he was burning with jealousy, he managed to endure it. After all, Chi Wan’s safety was what mattered most.
Soon, Chi Wan and Xiahou Yu arrived at the entrance of the police station. Watching Xiahou Yu open the car door for Chi Wan, Li Xingye suddenly said, "Wanwan, why don’t you sleep in the space from now on?"
At least when Chi Wan was in the space, she wouldn’t have to worry about anyone disturbing her.
Chi Wan smiled and said softly, "Let’s talk about it when I get back."
Xiahou Yu didn’t quite hear what Chi Wan said and turned back. "What?"
Chi Wan shook her head. "I was asking if I could see those men in a little while."
Xiahou Yu looked at the young police officer who had come to meet them.
The young officer looked troubled. "Under normal circumstances, we can’t grant your request unless it’s critically related to the current case."
Chi Wan thought for a moment. "What if I suspect they’re connected to another case?"
As he led them inside, the young officer replied casually, "In that case, I can request permission for you, but you can’t just make a claim. You’ll need evidence to prove the connection."
Chi Wan nodded and followed him to give her statement.
But then, she caught sight of a familiar face out of the corner of her eye and immediately waved. "Officer, do you remember me?"
The middle-aged police officer looked over at her, a hint of surprise on her face. "You’re that little girl from the Chi Family... What are you doing here?"
The young officer asked in surprise, "Captain Tan, you know her?"
The officer known as Captain Tan nodded. "We met during a previous case. What’s this about?"
The young officer quickly explained what had happened. "This Miss Chi said there might be clues related to another case, which is why..."
Captain Tan looked at Chi Wan, who silently mouthed two words to her: "He Family."
Something clicked in her mind. She said to the young officer, "I’ll take over with them. You can go handle your other duties."
Although the young officer didn’t know what silent exchange was happening, he had no reason to refuse, so he nodded and left.
Captain Tan led Chi Wan into the statement room. "Alright, tell me what happened. How did you get involved with the He Family again?"
Because it might involve some rather sensitive clues, Xiahou Yu didn’t go into the statement room with Chi Wan, waiting for her outside instead.
It was Chi Wan’s first time giving a statement at a police station. She subconsciously looked around, but there was no fear on her face.
Captain Tan’s expression was as serious as ever, but a distinct weariness was also perceptible.
Chi Wan guessed that she had probably been investigating the He Family’s affairs this whole time.
So, as soon as she sat down, she spoke candidly, "It’s like this. A dandy from the He Family has been harassing me recently. In the process of dealing with him, I’ve discovered some incredible things. I wanted to seek help from the police, but I’ve found that he seems to have covered his tracks very well."
Captain Tan’s eyes narrowed slightly, but her tone was skeptical. "If he’s covered his tracks so well, how do you know he’s involved?"
But seeing Chi Wan’s calm demeanor, Captain Tan felt a faint sense of anticipation.
The case against the He Family was extensive, but they had been entrenched for so many years and were truly old and cunning. Although the police had caught some small fish, they still lacked a good breakthrough point to get to their main target.
And today, the moment she saw Chi Wan, she immediately remembered her visit to the Chi Family. The young girl had indeed left a deep impression on her back then.
Especially when she mouthed the two words "He Family," Captain Tan suddenly had a premonition.
’Perhaps Chi Wan could give her a surprise.’
