Chapter 839 - 500: Duel of the Extraordinary, Cheating Is a Required Course
In the end, Shen Sui used his actions to open the door to Qishala’s heart.
With her icy shell peeled away, Qishala revealed a charming softness that was enough to stir the heart.
Leaning on Shen Sui’s shoulder, she began talking in detail about her past in the Magical Girl World.
In truth, this wasn’t the first world where Qishala had acted in such a flamboyant fashion. In order to catch the attention of the possibly-existing Shen Sui, Qishala had left her name in almost every world she’d visited—and always in a way that would be written in bold strokes in that world’s history.
In the Magical Girl World, of course, Qishala appeared in the guise of a Magical Girl.
Imitating that world’s Extraordinary Power system and the classic Magical Girl outfits, she designed this combat costume for herself.
She absolutely hadn’t expected that this outfit would end up being used in actual combat.
What followed was the most classic story of an invincible one cutting open a path for those who came after.
Under her lead, countless Magical Girls went to war against the Demons that existed everywhere in this world, and this in turn led to the birth of the Management Bureau.
Roughly a hundred years ago, the Magical Girls completed a general purge of the Demons. It was around that time that Magical Girls—and in fact the entire Extraordinary Power system—began fading from the public eye.
Magical Girls didn’t vanish, because Demons, being manifestations born from the malice in human hearts, will never truly disappear.
But as the number of Demons dropped sharply and disaster incidents plummeted, each city no longer needed that many Magical Girls.
After the war, Qishala began to retreat behind the scenes, preparing for her next journey.
It was at that time that she received Shen Sui’s call and, without a second thought, set off for the Dawn Continent—leaving behind the omen of the White Dragon descending a few years ago.
"So that means... in this world now, there aren’t many people you still know?"
Qishala nodded. "The lifespan of ordinary humans has its limits, after all."
Magical Girls are ultimately still human, and naturally share a human lifespan. After more than a hundred years, the comrades who once fought alongside Qishala had long since passed away.
As a long-lived race, Qishala had long since grown used to her human friends dying of old age.
Because she knew she could never stay in the Magical Girl World forever, Qishala hadn’t gone out of her way to make friends afterwards.
"Then... what’s the note you left in the Magical Girl World?" Shen Sui, arm around Qishala’s waist, asked curiously.
"Note?" Qishala lifted her head with a hint of puzzlement.
Their eyes met for a few seconds, and it was obvious Qishala had remembered something. Her cheeks slowly turned bright red.
Seeing Qishala’s expression, Shen Sui said, a little puzzled, "Why’s your face red?"
Qishala snapped back angrily, "Quit touching me all over."
Then she pulled herself out of Shen Sui’s arms.
A short while later, Qishala had already changed into her usual maid outfit. With the return of her maid attire, her whole aura shifted back as well. Expressionless, she issued Shen Sui an eviction order: "I’m going to work. If Master has nothing else, you should get some rest early."
Shen Sui looked at the hand Qishala had just pulled free from, flexed his fingers, recalling the feel from a moment ago, and felt a bit confused.
By all logic, Qishala should be used to his antics by now, so why had she reacted so strongly just now?
Before Shen Sui could figure out the reason, Qishala had already shoved him to the doorway.
Staring at Qishala’s tightly shut door, Shen Sui was momentarily dazed.
"What are you spacing out here for?" Freymia’s voice came from behind him.
"Oh, just did a bit of warm-up exercise." Shen Sui came back to himself, stretching his limbs as he spoke to Freymia.
"In that case," Freymia’s eyes lit up at the sight of him, "interested in doing something a bit more intense with me?"
"Something more intense?" Shen Sui thought about it. He was still a long way from being squeezed dry, so he agreed readily, "Of course. How intense are we talking?"
"Very! Very intense!" Freymia licked her lips as she said to Shen Sui.
A few minutes later, staring at the huge stage before him, Shen Sui looked at Freymia with a blank face. "This is the ’intense exercise’ you were talking about?"
"What did you think it was!" Freymia huffed. "Martina’s gone to the sea to catch fish, and Vivian seems to be off suppressing the other invited players, so I’m the only one left to set up the Duel Game venue."
"If I remember right, the game starts tomorrow, doesn’t it? And the stage still isn’t ready. Your procrastination is as bad as ever..."
"Heh heh, just admit that last-minute rush work really gets your blood pumping."
"This exercise isn’t that intense though." Shen Sui glanced at Antipus, who was busy in the sky, and said, "Isn’t there still the little bug to help?"
"She’s busy weaving this Broken Boundary Space." As she spoke, Freymia bent down and picked up a huge bundle of pitch-black lumber from the ground. It was Black Ebony from the Dawn Continent, the densest wood on the continent.
Because of its excellent Magic Power conduction and the super-heavy weight brought by its extreme density, Magic Staffs made from Black Ebony were very popular with many Mages.
After all, with how heavy Black Ebony is, even something the size of a Magic Staff ends up weighing about the same as a Warrior’s Warhammer, making it perfectly usable as a close-combat weapon.
