My Tribrid System: More than a Monster
Chapter 267: Gut Instinct
Chapter 265
BOOOOOOM!
The already crumbling building shattered to a debris of glass as a bright light consumed a specific area.
The catastrophic explosion drew all attention as all eyes snapped to the building that crumbled to the ground in a rubble of glass and debris.
Kai evaded a scythe before looking into the direction of the fallen building.
’Wa-Wasn’t that where Drey was fighting just now?’
Van had just finished killing the beast and instead of celebrating, was instantly filled with worry as he looked in the direction of the fallen building then snapped his head towards Kai with a scowl on his face.
’It’s Ray, dingus!’
But then worry overshadowed his thoughts as he turned towards the fallen building again.
Even Berg who just blasted a spider away paused as he glanced in the direction of the fallen building.
A wide smile flashed across his face; uncontrolled.
’For real? He buried himself in the pile of debris? I didn’t even have to do anything as he has just killed himself with his foolishness. Hahahaha! Lucky me! Lucky me! He’s gone. The universe has just decided to give me a goodnews for the first time in a while. Marvelous.’
Felix looked at the building worriedly.
’Brother? What have you just done?’
Even Lincoln had a frown on his face as he stared at the tab in his hand.
"What just happened? There’s no way he would survive something like that, how did the whole building shatter? Wasn’t it just the upper level that got destroyed? So how?"
— Hm.
Van tightened his jaws, about to move forward when he paused.
A part of the rubble moved and soon enough, a giant rock was hurled into the distance.
The rock collided with a building, smashing through it and creating a deep hole within.
Another rock flew through the air and crashed with a spider beast sending it hurtling through the air.
A third heavy rock burst through the air and almost collided with a few Aspirants if it wasn’t for their timely movement, they would have been crashed.
Afterward, Ray could be seen rising out of the ground with heavy dust falling down his body like snowflakes.
Shaking his body rigorously like a dog would, the dust sprayed into the air, falling from his body and hair.
He took a few steps forward while dusting his hair to get the sand from his hair out.
His friends had smiles on their faces on seeing that he was okay except for a small cut on his cheek, he had no other injury.
Berg had a deep scowl on his face as flame blazed brightly around his hands, crackling with the fury raging within him.
Pat. Pat. Pat.
He dusted himself some more before scanning the battlefield.
The amount of spiders had been reduced considerably.
They had been fighting for half an hour by now and they had managed to clear more than half the beasts.
Still didn’t mean that their jobs were done though.
If even the Iron Corps members weren’t slowing down, why should they?
Lincoln and Jake who were watching the battle through the eyes of the drones had stunned looks on their faces.
"Captain, you are seeing this too yeah?"
— I was about asking the same question. How did a rain of glass and debris fall on one and he came out unscathed? How is this possible?
"The bright light that came from the building before it totally collapsed, do you think it came from him?"
— Hm. I think so. Now I really want to interrogate him more than ever.
"I will be there too."
Then, Ray snapped his head in a direction of a small building that looked like a prayer house of some sorts.
’Huh?’
Unhesitatingly, he darted towards the building which was positioned a few metres away from the main field and almost close to the swirling blue gate that was now barely spewing beasts.
Reaching the building, luckily; there were no beasts around it.
Grabbing the door handle, he looked up to see a drone following him.
’Come on. What if I wanted to take a shit?!’
«Low-key. The drone’s pissing me off too. If it was me in your place, I would have smashed it to bits by now.» Bruce remarked angrily.
Choosing to ignore the comment and the drone, Ray pulled the door towards himself but it didn’t budge.
Pushing it, it didn’t open.
Heaving a deep breath, he grabbed the door harder than before and then yanked with all his entire force sending the door blasting away and revealing the inside of the building.
"Get away fr—"
The voice was cut short from the inside as Ray fully stepped in to see about over a hundred civilians huddled together while a priest stood in front of them with a holy book.
"An Aspirant?"
Ray shook his head and then looked behind him to see the chaos happening.
"You all had the chance to join in on the others to escape into the bunker but you chose to hide here?"
The drone flew into the room a second after.
— Oh wow Aspirant. How did you know there were civilians here?
’Captain Jake?’
The boy recognised the voice immediately but chose not to act suspicious.
"I followed my gut instinct. My mind kept telling me that there were some people trapped here and I decided to check."
There was a pause as if the Captain didn’t buy the Aspirant’s words but he didn’t say anything more.
— Just take them to safety.
"Yes Sir."
Turning to the civilians, he pointed at the exit.
"Come on. Let’s head for the bunkers."
— Bu-Bu-But the beasts...
"I will protect you all."
«Shocking. Didn’t you say that you don’t care about humanity even if they burnt to ash?»
Ray thought for several seconds as he also saw the civilians considering his offer.
’Let’s just say... my gut’s telling me to save these people for some reason.’
The priest was the first to fold.
"Let’s go."
Without hesitation, Ray turned around and the civilians along with the priest followed after him as they exited the prayer house.
