My Tribrid System: More than a Monster
Chapter 327: Controller (1)
Chapter 325
The spear whistled toward his face with such blazing momentum that he was almost caught entirely off guard.
But with rapid reflexes, he immediately snatched the projectile out of the air.
The sheer force of the throw sent him skidding backward, his heels digging deep trenches into the earth.
The others instantly froze in their tracks upon seeing Ray sliding uncontrollably backward with the spear still vibrating violently in his grasp.
With a burst of all his might, he managed to redirect and fling the spear to the side, sending it crashing into the ground where it dug a deep furrow and sent a cloud of dust flying into the air.
Quickly, the others rushed to his side, immediately flanking him with worried expressions as they stared straight ahead.
Now that they were closer, the edge of the Bone Ridge they had noticed earlier was actually a giant crater in the ground that looked like the gaping mouth of an abysmal beast.
"What could have the power to do that to the ground?" Van asked, his eyes widened as his mechanical spiders began running across his hands, forming a sleek suit that hugged the skin of his forearms tightly like protective sleeves.
He hadn’t weaponized his gear yet, waiting patiently to see what kind of threat they were dealing with.
Seconds stretched into minutes, yet nothing emerged from the pit.
The spear that had lunged at Ray had actually come from a few meters away from the abysmal hollow, not from inside it.
"Should we go check it out?" Chloe silently asked, looking around at the others.
Ray turned to her with a frown.
"Haven’t you watched action movies before? That is a textbook recipe for disaster."
Finally, for the first time in hours, Trisha uttered a word.
"Then what? That thing is blocking our path."
Kai breathed in and exhaled slowly, lifting his foot about to walk forward when he suddenly paused.
The earth rumbled for a second before a figure shot into the air from the hollowed earth.
The teens lifted their gazes to the sky, watching the dark silhouette hover at the peak of its trajectory for several seconds.
Then, just as fast, it descended back to the earth with heavy momentum.
The impact threw a massive cloud of dust into the air, the sheer shockwave lifting the scattered bones on the ground into the air by an invisible force.
"Guys... I feel weird," Van muttered silently, taking an involuntary step backward.
Chloe gulped loudly as she pulled out her bow, nocking two arrows into the string, and waited while looking ahead.
Slowly, the dust settled to reveal the figure that had caused such a ruckus, and when it became visible, they finally realized how dangerous their situation had truly become.
"My suspicion was accurate," Ray whispered as dread clawed at the hearts of the others.
"The-The regional controller."
Towering at nearly seven feet tall, the creature resembled a distorted human forged entirely from bone.
Not a single strand of flesh, skin, or muscle existed on its frame.
Every inch of it was made from pale, weathered skeletal structures that fit together with unnatural, fluid precision.
Its massive ribcage rose and fell with a faint creaking sound despite lacking lungs, while its thick spine protruded slightly beneath the long black cape draped over its shoulders like a curtain of darkness.
The skull resting atop its broad frame looked horrifyingly human, its hollow eye sockets staring forward like empty pits of death.
Cracks ran across parts of the bone, giving it an ancient appearance, yet nothing about its structure looked fragile.
The hovering weapons flew at them with lightning speed, leaving no time for a plan as the battle for the edge of the Bone Ridge instantly exploded into motion.
"Scatter!" Kai roared, his voice cutting through the whistling air as he rolled hard to the right.
A barrage of bone spears slammed into the exact spot he had been standing a millisecond prior, detonating the stone ground into flying shrapnel.
Chloe’s reflexes kicked into overdrive.
Using her telekinesis, she didn’t try to stop the incoming projectiles directly—they were moving too fast for her current capacity.
Instead, she applied a sharp, sideways kinetic nudge to the tips of the three swords hurtling toward her.
The slight deflection was enough to make them buzz past her shoulders, close enough to whip her hair across her face.
Trisha moved like a blur of absolute zero.
Spinning her ice blade in a tight defensive wheel, she deflected two spears before slamming her palm into the dirt.
"Ice Wall!"
A thick, crystalline barrier erupted from the earth just as a dozen bone weapons rained down.
The impact was deafening.
Cracks spiderwebbed across her ice shield instantly, the force pushing her back a couple of inches, but the barrier held long enough for Van to dive behind it.
Van didn’t waste the opening.
Crouching behind Trisha’s cracking ice wall, he braced his legs, his hand cannons glowing with a volatile blue light.
"Eat energy beams, you oversized fossil!" Van yelled, unleashing a dual torrent of plasma-like energy straight through the gaps of the raining projectiles, aiming directly for the controller’s massive ribcage.
Meanwhile, Ray went completely offensive.
With his Inspect skill failing, he knew he couldn’t play defensively against an unknown tier entity.
Activating his movement skills, he darted through the storm of falling weapons like a lightning bolt, his cracked gauntlets humming with unstable power as he closed the distance to the seven-foot monstrous skeleton.
