Chapter 510 - 347: The Otherworldly Legend of the Fantastical Eyes
Xue Dili slowly carved out another question mark.
He had a brand new view of the anomalies in this world, especially when he heard about souls that had already reached the Pure Land but could still return the same way. His expression was odd as he watched the suddenly appearing tree roots.
And also, the giant tree covered with eyeballs.
When he first descended into this world, he had discovered the eyeball-covered tree, right within that abandoned shrine.
Initially, he didn’t care much because of the abstract scenes abundant in this world, thinking it was just one of the demons or simply a creature twisted by the influence of demons.
But now it seemed that the eyeball-covered tree might be what the witch Susu referred to as "walnut wood," and it happened to be the tree that buried her body.
The eyeballs, could they be formed by all the clergymen she mentioned?
After all, according to her, clergymen were a group of "pseudo-evil ghosts," existing by specially treating their bodies from a young age and integrating with walnut wood, thereby birthing a semi-strange entity, known as clergymen.
And walnut wood reportedly connects to the god of their world who governs the Netherworld, Margaret...
And now seeing that extremely horrifying ultra-giant root emerging from the ground covered with eyeballs, it was hard not to associate Xue Dili with the Pure Land god Margaret.
Similarly, Xue Dili instantly linked this giant tree with the Divine Tree.
However, its essence seemingly has enormous differences, but it really feels like a subspecies of a Divine Tree, not those cultivated by apostles to absorb human spirituality, but more like an ancient subspecies naturally adapted in this world.
After all, in the ancient era of the First Era, Divine Trees weren’t just tools for apostles to initiate celestial disasters; they were merely planted on dead stars, relying on powerful life force to gather atmosphere and moisture, allowing the dead star to birth life, solely as a "World Tree."
Even in the First Era’s Interstellar Corps, those ancient ancestors used Divine Trees as tools to propel planets, very advanced.
So upon seeing this tree, Xue Dili instantly thought of the history as a World Tree during ancient times, even suspecting that this planet might have originally been just a dead star, planted with a tree by passing aliens, modified by a World Tree for unknown billions of years leading to current life and civilization.
But he could only speculate; it would be great if he could connect to the World Consciousness and check its backend to confirm his suspicions.
Xue Dili’s mind raced through time, rapidly considering many things.
Meanwhile, the eyeball-covered roots immediately displayed a sense of expulsion, seemingly intending to attack.
"No, oh god, Margaret..." The witch Susu suddenly showed an extremely painful expression.
Xue Dili frowned deeply, feeling as if something extraordinarily strange warped around the little witch, like something trying to possess her body.
Could it be she said the demon returned the same way, ultimately directly returned to her?
"Snap!" The little witch collapsed painfully on the ground, and from her palm, two eyes astonishingly emerged, beneath which even grew a mouth visibly, which opened to say...
"Spare me..."
"Kill me!"
Xue Dili’s frown tightened, as the eyeballs seemed prepared to wriggle inward, as if this strange entity was relying on its power to reach the little witch’s brain and possess her body.
His instincts told him he had to do something.
"Buzz!" The cursed blood turned into a nail of blood in an instant, piercing the little witch’s palm, creating a massive void there.
But this action seemed to have thoroughly enraged the rising roots, with the Netherworld god of this world, or say Otherworld version of "Hades," beginning to react excitedly.
And just as Xue Dili prepared to pick up the little witch to flee, at a distance those dense eyeballs on the roots suddenly gathered into an immensely horrifying death beam, happening all within a millisecond; the terrifying beam instantaneously aimed at Xue Dili escaping.
Xue Dili’s reflexes only allow him to evade critical hits, with the death beam grazing his head, hitting his ear, directly obliterating half of it.
This feeling of imminent death was intensely discomforting; thankfully after that shot, the giant tree seemed to exhaust massive energy, while Xue Dili’s teleportation gate already opened, quickly slipping through it to hide.
Behind the teleportation gate was the wilderness about a thousand kilometers away, where one could faintly see the giant root soaring from the city afar, but here that root was as inconspicuous as a strand of hair.
Xue Dili placed the seemingly troubled young witch on the ground, only feeling himself being careless, and that combat wasn’t really his specialty, especially when the opponent seemed Tier Five. If given a few days to gather intelligence about this world and prepare a ritual, he thought whether it’s ending or Genesis, there wouldn’t be any problem.
