My Wife Is The Author?
Chapter 10: Three Wolves
Shortly after delivering the second item on the list to Charlotte, Charles started to make his way back down to the 99th floor.
As he passed Caarthanax, the Blue Dragon, he didn’t even pay the beast any attention.
He was looking at the piece of paper in his hand, reading the next item on the list.
King Slime Gel
Hmm, I’ve never heard of this creature in the novel either, but it’s not hard to guess what this is.
As he left the floor of the sleeping blue dragon and entered the 98th floor, he saw Algadon’s red dragon corpse lying there on the floor.
He patted the dragon’s scales as he walked past.
You put up a good fight, my friend.
Just as he was about to head down to the 97th floor, he paused for a moment and thought carefully.
Although I have a boost in physical strength, fighting with my hands is inconvenient.
Clawing away at that dragon’s brain with my hands was a hard task.
He turned back to Algadon’s corpse and an idea entered his head.
The scales of the dragon were harder than iron.
So, he made his way over to the dragon and pulled at one of its scales aggressively.
It took ten minutes, but eventually it came free.
「Red Dragon Scale」
Unfortunately, he swiftly realised that the edges all around the scale were incredibly sharp. If he were to hold it with his bare hands, it would serrate his skin.
He looked around the room to see if there was something he could use to make a handle.
Nothing.
Then, he remembered something.
He was wearing a buttoned shirt, and luckily, Elurion just so happened to be very hot.
I guess I don’t mind being shirtless.
Charles wasted no time taking off his shirt and wrapping it around the lower end of the dragon scale, creating himself a soft handle to grab hold of.
As he did, he tested it by swinging the dragon scale, performing a few different strikes.
Sweet. Not too bad at all...
Not only did this give him a near-unbreakable weapon, but he could also use it to parry elemental strikes.
This was a fact that he knew based on reading The Fourth Apocalypse.
Dragons had an extreme resistance to most elements. The only things they were weak to were extreme cold, certain toxins, and any magical weapon created with the specific intention of slaying dragons. Though most of those weapons had been lost since the Third Era.
Charles wished that he could tear off more of the dragon’s scales and make armour out of them, but unfortunately he was not a smith and also didn’t have the time.
So, he had to settle for being shirtless and using a single scale as his weapon.
Afterwards, he made his way over to the door leading down to the 97th floor and took in a deep breath.
Here goes nothing.
...
After a short descent, Charles opened the door to the 97th floor.
Immediately, he was met with the sounds of vicious growling and the smell of nature.
This was because he was in a forest. One filled with green trees that stretched to the tower’s ceiling, grass, and even small bodies of water acting as ponds.
This didn’t surprise Charles, as he knew that sometimes tower floors could take on different appearances.
It was normal for a floor to be changed in order to naturally adapt to the creatures that existed inside it.
As for the growling, he saw the source of these noises through the trees...
Sitting at the centre of the floor in a patch of grass were three wolf-like creatures.
Their fur was black as night, and they were each the size of horses, even as they sat there licking themselves clean.
Their eyes were pure white and seemed to flow slightly.
On their paws, there were claws the length of forearms.
Charles couldn’t help but gulp. These were another creatures he had never seen before.
He made sure not to move, as he hadn’t alerted them yet.
Then, he focused on one of the creatures and viewed the system through the translucent crystal that appeared above its head.

All three of the creatures shared the same information, other than their names. One of them also had the potential to reach Sage, rather than Master.
Three Elites. Weaker than a Master, but the numbers make things hard to gauge.
No... Doesn’t logic suggest that this floor should be easier than the 98th?
The question is, how do I attack...
One of the wolves suddenly turned its head towards Charles. He felt its two white eyes piercing through him.
Shit...
The other wolves turned their heads too.
It was as though they could hear his thoughts and had become alarmed.
One by one, the three felines rose to their full heights, matching the height of horses. If a small man were to stand in their way, the wolves could trample over him.
Charles was tall, but still nowhere near large enough to match them physically. Not even with his physicality boost.
But it seemed the wolves didn’t intend to give him any chance.
In unison, they dashed forwards.
Their speed was ferocious, and they moved side by side, mimicking one another’s movements.
It was clear that they were siblings with great synergy. Even putting their size aside, he could tell their teamwork would be the biggest problem to deal with.
As the three beasts approached, Charles was forced to react instinctively.

As he used his new spell, he saw a vision flash through his mind.
It depicted all three of the wolves slashing at three different times, so that if he dodged one of them, he would be killed by one of the others.
Alright...
He felt the vision fade away, and at the same time, the felines struck exactly as he had seen.
This allowed him to dodge in a way that avoided all of the consecutive strikes.
He rolled sideways and made it back onto his feet, whilst the wolves’ claws struck empty air.
Although Charles felt drained, he was in far better condition than when he used Editor’s Authority.
The wolves turned towards him, preparing to strike again.
This time, however, Charles was even more prepared.

As the wolves charged again, Charles brought forth a new law.
"Alliances are not allowed!"
And in that same second, one of the wolves opened its jaws and chomped down hard on the neck of its own brother, producing the sound of bones crushing and flesh tearing.
