Patriarch Li Muchen followed the three men out of the secure underground vault and escorted them back toward the bright sunlight of the central plaza. The heavy tension from their earlier standoff had faded within the dark corridors but the clan leader knew thousands of anxious disciples were still watching them from afar. Muchen needed to close out the political theater with a strong showing to reassure his people.

As Zhan Tian stepped up into the dark clouds with Canghai and Li Yu in tow, the patriarch summoned his Qi and pointed a stern finger toward the sky.

"Take your spoils and go!" Muchen yelled so his voice echoed clearly across the sweeping training fields and the lower valleys. "The Li Clan has shown you courtesy today but do not dare come looking for trouble here again! Our patience has limits and our swords are sharp!"

Zhan Tian paused in the air and glanced down at the bold patriarch. A wide grin spread across the face of the Worldkeeper as he recognized the fake bravado for what it truly was. Muchen was simply posturing to look better in front of his juniors and rebuild his damaged prestige.

"Keep your little mountain secure, sword master," Zhan Tian called back with a hearty and booming laugh. "We have what we came for."

With a casual wave of his hand, Zhan Tian tore a jagged rift in the fabric of space and led his family through the dark void. They vanished from the pristine peaks of the sword lineage and left Muchen standing tall on the plaza as the disciples below erupted into cheers for their fierce leader.

The spatial distortion smoothed out and Li Yu stepped back onto the familiar grassy shores of the Five Star Lakes. The rich scent of spirit herbs and the gentle sound of water lapping against the stone banks welcomed him home. The political atmosphere of the Li Clan felt far away now and he was eager to return to his own routine.

He found a quiet spot near the edge of the water and sat down cross legged on a flat stone. He closed his eyes and entered a deep meditative state. His Qi circulated through his meridians like a warm and steady river while the orange ring of his natal fire pulsed gently within his chest.

Li Yu shifted his focus inward and visualized the sprawling landscape of his own soul space. He reflected on the teachings of Astramentis and the unique method the ancient artifact had gifted him during his time in The Veil.

The Soul Armament technique was a rare art that transcended typical spatial storage. It allowed a cultivator to pull a physical weapon directly into their ethereal foundation. The bound weapon would grow stronger alongside the user and could be summoned into physical reality in an instant.

A normal cultivator possessed only one soul and could therefore only bind a single weapon. Binding a second weapon would cause conflicting martial intents that would fracture their foundation. However, Li Yu possessed five distinct Nascent Souls residing within and that meant he had five potential armament slots to fill.

He currently had more premium weapons in his possession than he had open slots so he needed to pick and choose his bindings very carefully.

Li Yu looked toward the sky where the Koi Soul swam gracefully through the ambient energy. The ornate blade known as Gilded Calamity rested securely inside the radiant fish. Li Yu reached out with his spiritual sense and gently separated the sword from the koi. The blade materialized back in his physical hand as he opened his eyes.

He traced the intricate patterns etched into the cold metal. It was a beautiful artifact with high sentimental value because his father had gifted it to him but he now knew its true history. It was one of the ten legendary swords of the Li Clan.

Following his formal exile from the lineage, he felt a growing disconnect from the weapon. He did not view the blade as a core piece of his martial being and he knew it rightfully belonged to the sword heritage he had just left behind. He fully intended to return it to the clan at some point in his long life so keeping it bound to his inner soul felt highly inappropriate.

He placed Gilded Calamity into his Koi Sanctuary and stored it away.

Li Yu returned his focus to his soul space and evaluated his remaining bindings. He looked at Muddy standing firmly near the riverbanks. The heavy war hammer his mother had given him remained anchored to the sturdy beast.

He rarely used the blunt weapon in active combat as he heavily favored his staff but the sentimental connection was strong. The dense physical weight of the hammer matched the unyielding nature of the buffalo so he decided to keep it there.

Since he had returned his previous staff to Khaos that left him with four open slots in his soul armory. He reached into his spatial reserves and drew Pale Extinction. The vicious bone sword radiated a fierce and chilling killing intent. Li Yu held the pale blade and felt a deep resonance with his own combat style, probably his favorite sword out of all the ones he owned.

He initiated the Soul Armament technique and channeled his Qi around the weapon. The physical bone dissolved into a stream of pale light. The energy entered his chest and flew straight toward the Koi Soul. The majestic fish swallowed the light and the fierce weapon merged seamlessly with it. The killing intent of the blade blended smoothly with the movements of the koi.

That left three slots remaining.

Li Yu desired to carry a piece of his father with him on his journey. He pulled out Duty, the dense azure blade he had recently acquired from the underground vault. He held the cold iron and he channeled his Qi once more.

The heavy sword turned into a stream of shimmering blue energy and sank into his inner world. The Blue Whale Soul rose from the ethereal ocean and accepted the offering. The sword anchored itself deep within the whale and hummed with the steady and calm presence of Li Canghai.

That left two slots open.

Li Yu turned his attention to the staff Khaos had gifted him. The ancient weapon was currently still stuck in the dirt. He could not pull it out yet due to his current physical limitations and his lack of strength. He assigned the weapon to his Human Soul and kept that specific slot reserved until his physical body reached the required threshold to wield it properly.

That left one final slot.

He looked at the Fisherman Soul sitting quietly by the rushing water. He decided to leave that final position open for now. Rushing to fill every slot with random weapons was unwise and he preferred to wait for fate to deliver a weapon that truly aligned with his Dao before committing to it.

With his ethereal armory settled and optimized, Li Yu returned his focus to the physical world to train. A full week passed peacefully at the Five Star Lakes. His Qi grew more refined and dense with each passing day of strict physical exertion. The orange ring of his natal fire burned brightly in his chest while he cooked his meals and meditated under the starry night sky.

During this week of training, the brief family reunion came to a natural end. Li Canghai departed to lead his troops. Zhan Tian grew restless sitting by the quiet lakes and eventually tore a spatial rift to resume his own mysterious wanderings across the cosmos. Li Yu bid them both a warm farewell and wished them safe travels as the valley returned to a state of quiet isolation.

The serene atmosphere broke a few days later when Zhan Tielan stepped out onto the grass. She had just returned from her duties and looked eager to see her son. Li Yu walked over to greet her with a bright smile. Tielan pulled him into a firm embrace and patted his back before stepping away to inspect his courtyard.

"I heard the news about the grand decree," Tielan said as they walked toward the wooden pavilion. "The Li Clan exile has been the talk of the military camps for days. Muchen must have been sweating through his silk robes when your grandfather showed up at his front door."

"It was a tense standoff," Li Yu admitted as he poured them both a cup of warm tea. "But patriarch Muchen handled it as best as he could given the circumstances. Grandfather was simply not willing to let the public exile happen without securing some tangible benefits for the trouble."

"That is the Zhan way," Tielan nodded with a proud smirk. "We do not give away our prestige or our name for free. But tell me honestly Yu, how do you feel about the decree? Are you harboring any regrets about losing your place in the sword lineage?"

Li Yu took a sip of his tea and looked out over the calm water. He felt no lingering bitterness or sorrow in his heart.

"I have no regrets," Li Yu answered honestly. "The title meant very little to me. If stepping away helps cousin Mei overcome her heart demon then it is a worthy trade. I have my freedom here and I have my family. That is more than enough for me."

Tielan smiled warmly and set her teacup down on the table. She reached over and squeezed his shoulder.

"Spoken like a true warrior who knows his own heart," Tielan praised him. "Your foundation is incredibly steady. You took a hit to your public reputation to protect your kin and you did it without complaint. I am proud of you."

"It was the right thing to do," Li Yu shrugged modestly. "I just want to focus on my cultivation and my own path forward."

"And that is exactly why I am here," Tielan announced as she leaned back in her chair. "Since your father and your grandfather have run off to fight their own battles, I decided we should have our own excursion. I am taking you on an outing so we can spend some time together, just you and me."

Li Yu raised an eyebrow in curiosity.

"Where are we going?" Li Yu asked.

"We are going to the Primal Howl Realm," Tielan grinned as a fierce light danced in her eyes. "We are going hunting."

Li Yu chuckled as he realized her idea of mother and son bonding time involved tracking down dangerous predators in a savage jungle. He recalled the untamed forests and the towering beasts he had encountered there during his previous mission with Zhan Chen.

"I know you like to eat good meat and experiment with your cooking," Tielan continued while gesturing toward his spatial ring. "What better way to stock up your pantry than bagging fresh game with your mother? I know the best territories in that realm to find the richest cuts and the most challenging prey."

"That sounds like a great plan," Li Yu agreed enthusiastically. The prospect of gathering premium ingredients for his meals was highly appealing. "I will gather my supplies and secure the aquatic pens before we leave."

"Do not take too long," Tielan urged as she stood up and stretched her armored arms. Li Yu spent the next hour leaving detailed instructions for his pavilion staff regarding the feeding schedules of his spirit fish.

Once his affairs were in order he walked back to join his mother as she took him to Primal Howl Realm.
