Mystic Overlord: Reading Gives Strength
Chapter 1527 - 1521: The Treasury Beneath the Flames
Ronald immediately set off, moving at great speed.
Even without using a flying spell, he reached the direction Martha pointed out within fifteen minutes.
—The situation was very dire.
What appeared before Ronald was a noisy crowd, high leaping firelight, and a broken palace wall.
This was Orel’s palace!
The source of chaos in the city was right here; the palace amidst the festival is facing sudden upheaval!
"Wait... the treasury?!"
Ronald hadn’t yet investigated the cause of the chaos here before the thought popped into his mind.
Could the two church personnel responsible for guarding the treasury be involved?
Thinking this, Ronald bypassed the panicked crowd and headed toward the treasury’s location.
On the way, he saw the singing orcs.
Their power and external spell system were completely different.
Accompanied by the urgent singing, the originally burning firelight was suppressed. Unfortunately, the fire here was intense; with the orcs’ singing strength, completely extinguishing it would take quite some time.
"..."
"No wonder they are eager to find Orel."
The orcs were indeed struggling to combat the fire with song.
But if it were Orel... Even though this King of Giant Beasts wasn’t a match for Ronald or the Nine Commandments, handling such a fire situation was certainly a piece of cake.
With a worried yet relieved heart, Ronald soon arrived at the treasury’s location.
Upon reaching here, he breathed a sigh of relief.
The treasury was originally remote; neither the chaos nor the fire had disturbed this place.
Ronald immediately stepped forward, entering the interior of the treasury.
Passing through the perception shielding barrier, he instantly sensed the emotional fluctuations of the two church casters.
"Mr. Ronald!"
"Why are you here? It’s almost the time to enter the sealing process, right?"
The two church personnel noticed someone entering and immediately showed themselves.
Upon seeing it was Ronald.
Although their faces displayed concern about the outside chaos, more of their emotions was puzzlement over Ronald’s presence here.
The time was approaching night.
This powerful caster ought to be focusing entirely on entering the Holy City related affairs. No reason for him to come to the treasury alone, when ritual completion is critical. The situation here was already the church’s internal issue.
Ronald perceived their guard and could empathize with their tension.
He immediately halted his inward steps to show his stance and then pointed his hand to the ground above:
"I came here precisely for entering the seal."
"The ceremony to enter the Holy City is at the final juncture, but there’s chaos here. I cannot let things continue to develop without intervening, letting this ritual get affected ultimately, right?"
"So what has happened here, what is the chaos outside all about?"
After hearing Ronald’s explanation, the two church casters exchanged a look.
They accepted this reasoning, and one of them stepped forward, showing an apologetic expression to Ronald:
"I’m sorry, we’re also not sure of the situation."
"The Holy Minister entrusted us with the task of guarding the treasury, awaiting colleagues to take over. So upon detecting chaos outside, we immediately started guarding the treasury..."
As the church caster said this, Ronald also noticed traces of their actions mentioned.
Within the treasury and on the surrounding walls.
The magic power recently set up was constructing a form, an unfinished defensive barrier already showing its shape.
Meanwhile, the church caster continued:
"The information we have is that this chaos started probably about two hours ago, at which time the noise outside was most severe, we could even directly hear commotion from inside the treasury."
"..."
"I see... I understand."
Ronald didn’t linger; he immediately bid farewell to the two.
Since the treasury here had no issues, he had no reason to continue disrupting the church casters’ work.
Quickly leaving the underground, Ronald returned to the palace above.
The surroundings were still chaotic, entering was easy, without much effort, he reached the center of the chaos.
Unlike other places enveloped in firelight.
The number of orcs here was significant, but the urgent flames had already been extinguished. They divided into two groups, the larger group’s side surrounded the other in confrontation on the scorching ruins.
When Ronald arrived, the inner side’s lead was speaking:
"Madmen! Look at what you’ve done?"
"When Lord Orel returns, you unlawful ones will certainly face severe punishment! Now if you turn back, maybe he will mercifully spare you!"
These orcs were dressed as palace guards, and their loyal words to Orel were evident.
Yet the threats only brought ridicule.
Among the surrounding orcs, someone immediately led the taunting:
"Lord Orel?"
"Do you still think he’s unbeatable, the ruler of Songforest?"
"Come on!"
"Days ago, the outsiders already defeated that coward. Look around here, even as we break into his palace, burn his property, that failed guy hasn’t shown up!"
As the mocking voice faded, people around quickly chimed in.
They either followed to insult Orel or threaten the surrounded orcs; malicious words spread through the space.
Especially here in Songforest.
Many orcs sang fast-paced ditties; the power of their songs wasn’t strong, but accumulated, it brought substantial pressure.
The encirclement slowly shrank; threats drew closer.
Seeing this, the surrounded orc leader knew there was no retreat, could only hold his weapon and shout:
"Prepare for battle!"
"This group of maniacs defying authority, an unforgivable crime!"
In an instant, the palace guards started singing loudly.
They sang with unified majestic lyrics, brandishing weapons, charging toward the surrounding orcs.
The battle was imminent.
Facing warriors trained daily, the orcs surrounding them were definitely no match.
In normal circumstances, a single charge would likely scatter them.
But Songforest was different.
Among the surrounds, an orc sang a special tune, stirring others’ inner rage and greed, letting them bravely fight despite danger.
Coupled with their numerical advantage.
The originally should-be-defeated surrounders even managed to encircle the palace guards, gradually gaining the upper hand!
The palace guards’ leader was extremely valiant.
With a spear in hand, empowered by the song, he swiftly toppled several, quickly approaching the surrounds’ leader, with lyrics echoing the scene:
"Foolish rebels, insurgents defying the ruler, under my king’s brilliance, you shall face annihilation!"
In the song, the charging guards’ leader resembled a hero from tales. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
However, the person facing the charge showed no panic.
He arrogantly pointed to the flame-ravaged ground and cursed:
"Fool, still talking about Orel!"
"Look around, do you still think he can come back?"
