Though Shin’s words had planted a seed of doubt about Aizen in his mind, Yamamoto’s focus quickly returned to the man before him. He snorted, his eyes fixed on Shin.
"Even if Aizen is plotting something, that doesn’t excuse you for destroying the Sōkyoku," Yamamoto said.
"I knew it wouldn’t be that easy to get away with."
Shin wasn’t surprised by Yamamoto’s reaction. The old man wasn’t one to be so easily placated. But it didn’t matter—soon enough, he wouldn’t have time to worry about him.
Just then, Rangiku Matsumoto’s voice echoed through the area, transmitted by the Kidō spell, Tenteikūra, announcing that Aizen had severely wounded Tōshirō Hitsugaya.
Aizen’s true colors were finally revealed.
Shin’s expression turned a little strange. ’Poor Toshiro, what a run of bad luck. The plot changed, but he still got taken down by Aizen. Probably lost an arm.’
Yamamoto’s expression turned grim. He glanced at Shin. He couldn’t deal with him now—Aizen was the priority.
"Find Aizen," Yamamoto ordered.
"I don’t think that’s necessary. He’s already here," Shin said.
Indeed, Aizen chose that moment to make his appearance. Now that he was leaving Soul Society, he seemed to have cast aside all his inhibitions. But that wasn’t entirely true—Aizen had his own agenda. He wanted to test the strength of the others in Soul Society.
Like the old man Yamamoto, the other captains, and even Shin himself.
Aizen had clashed with Shin before, of course. It wasn’t a real battle, but he had been at a disadvantage. This time, he wanted to test Shin Uzumaki’s strength again.
"Aizen, you killed the members of the Central 46..."
Yamamoto began to question Aizen, but before he could finish, Aizen simply nodded.
"That’s right, Captain-Commander. It was all my doing. Don’t you think it’s a good thing I killed that bunch of old fools?"
Aizen had taken off his glasses, his face now a mask of cold arrogance, a stark contrast to the gentle captain of the 5th Division he had once been.
"Apprehend Aizen."
Hearing Aizen’s confession, Yamamoto wasted no more words and gave the order. Kyōraku and the others immediately moved to act.
"Was it you who framed Shinji Hirako and the others?" Kyōraku questioned Aizen.
"Indeed, Captain Kyōraku. I’m surprised you know about that." Aizen was completely unfazed. He didn’t even move; Gin Ichimaru and Kaname Tōsen, who stood behind him, stepped forward to intercept.
"Captain Ichimaru, Captain Tōsen, are you also betraying Soul Society?" Ukitake questioned them.
"Tōsen, why?"
The large, dog-like Sajin Komamura, captain of the 7th Division, questioned Tōsen. They were close friends, and Komamura knew of the justice Tōsen held in his heart. He couldn’t believe his friend would side with Aizen.
Shin watched the scene with great interest, taking the opportunity to rescue Rukia, who was standing nearby. No one was paying attention to her now.
"Thank you, Shin-sama," Rukia said, looking up at him.
"No need to thank me."
Shin shook his head and continued to watch the show. Soi Fon, standing beside him, asked, "Shin-sama, should I intervene?"
If this had happened before, Soi Fon would have acted without hesitation. But now, she preferred to follow Shin’s lead.
"Well, that’s up to you. If you want to fight, then go ahead," Shin said to her.
"Jinteki Shakusetsu, Suzumebachi."
After a moment’s consideration, Soi Fon decided to act. Her target was Gin Ichimaru. She had disliked him for a long time. The reason was simple: his smile. She couldn’t stand that fake, foxy grin. Before, she had no reason to attack him, but now she could do so openly.
"She’s actually going after Gin Ichimaru. Looks like he’d better watch his back."
Shin smiled upon seeing Soi Fon target Gin. With Soi Fon’s current strength, Gin might not be able to handle her.
Then Shin’s gaze fell on Aizen, who was also looking at him.
"Captain Shin, would you care to leave Soul Society with me? This place is a cage for you as well, is it not?"
Aizen extended an invitation to Shin. Shin was slightly surprised; he hadn’t expected Aizen to invite him.
"Oh? And you really dare to have me join you?" Shin asked Aizen. He truly didn’t believe Aizen had the guts. Wasn’t he afraid of what he might do?
"Why wouldn’t I dare? I would be honored if Captain Shin would leave with me." Aizen’s face was all smiles, but his words were just for show. Aizen would never genuinely invite Shin. If he were to be honest, he absolutely wouldn’t dare. He was already incredibly wary of Shin; how could he possibly have the courage to let Shin join him?
"I think you should focus on dealing with him first."
Shin gestured towards Yamamoto, who was now radiating an incredible amount of anger. He was like a volcano on the verge of eruption.
"AIZEN, YOU TRULY ARE BOLD."
The enraged Yamamoto threw a punch at Aizen. To openly try and recruit Shin to betray Soul Society right in front of him—it was a complete disregard for his authority.
The moment Yamamoto acted, Aizen felt an immense power, a power far beyond his imagination.
’As expected of the Captain-Commander. So strong.’ Aizen quickly retreated. He didn’t use Kyōka Suigetsu. Sensing the threat, he swiftly dodged Yamamoto’s attack.
Then Aizen launched a fierce slash at Yamamoto. The blade reached Yamamoto in an instant, but the old man was unfazed. Though old, he was a veteran of countless battles.
He raised his own blade to block the attack, then struck back at Aizen, his terrifying Reiatsu pressing down on him. Aizen’s expression turned grim. In Soul Society, there were two enemies he truly took seriously: Yamamoto Genryūsai and Shin.
Now he was finally facing one of them. To be honest, the old man’s power was beyond his previous calculations.
"Truly powerful. Without my Zanpakutō, I would be no match for you," Aizen said sincerely.
"Brat." Yamamoto snorted. Did he think using his Zanpakutō would make a difference?
As a matter of fact, though Yamamoto was powerful, if Aizen used his Zanpakutō, it would be very difficult for him to defeat Aizen.
