NO SECOND CHANCE, MY EX-HUSBAND
Chapter 43. SEAN MET CLARA
That night, Clara’s apartment felt much quieter than the bustling outside world, which was abuzz with talk of Sean and Moana.
The living room lights were dim. The faint scent of chamomile tea still lingered in the air. Clara sat on the sofa reading some work documents, trying to take her mind off all the chaos that kept popping up online.
But suddenly, the apartment doorbell rang.
Ding-dong.
Clara froze.
Leo, who was in the kitchen, turned his head quickly. "It’s so late. Who is it?"
Clara let out a small sigh. For some reason, she felt as though she already knew the answer.
The woman rose slowly and walked toward the door. And sure enough.
Sean was standing there.
The man was still wearing his usual dark suit. Neat. Expensive. Commanding.
But his face looked far more tired than it had a few weeks ago.
Clara immediately wanted to close the door.
"Clara," Sean stopped her quickly.
"What now?" Clara asked coldly.
Sean was silent for a few seconds before finally saying softly, "I just want to talk."
"We have nothing left to talk about."
"Clara, please."
The tone of his voice made Clara pause slightly.
Because Sean Weasley rarely begged.
The man was too selfish to sound that humble.
But Clara still didn’t open the door any wider. "Did you come to apologize again?"
Sean gave a wry smile. "I do deserve to apologize."
Clara let out a small, humorless laugh.
"That’s so strange," she said softly. "Back when I was crying over your affair, you told me I was overreacting."
Sean’s expression changed instantly.
"I was wrong."
"And now?" Clara looked him straight in the eye. "Now that Moana has ruined your life, you suddenly realize I’m a good woman?"
Sean didn’t answer right away.
That was the most painful answer of all.
Clara shook her head slightly. "You don’t miss me, Sean. You just hate the fact that the woman you defended so fiercely ended up destroying you."
Sean clenched his jaw slightly.
"No," he said softly. "I was a fool for losing you."
Clara looked away for a moment. She used to have longed to hear words like that.
Back then.
Not now.
"I’m tired," she said softly. "I’m really tired of all this."
Sean looked deeply into Clara’s eyes. His gaze softened as he saw her face, which looked far more at peace than when she was still with him.
And that was ironic.
Because Clara actually looked more alive after leaving him.
"I can fix everything," Sean said softly.
Those words made Clara smile faintly.
But the smile felt sad.
"Sean," she said softly, "you always think everything can be fixed with power and money."
There was a moment of silence.
"But my feelings have been dead for too long."
The space between them suddenly felt empty.
And for the first time since all this chaos began...
Sean looked like he had truly lost something he could no longer control.
********
Sean was still standing in front of Clara’s apartment door, looking at her with a heavy expression. For a man like him, coming back time and again just to apologize felt like a blow to his pride.
But Clara remained cold.
"I don’t know what else to do to get you to listen to me," Sean said softly.
Clara let out a small sigh. "Sean, you’re too late."
Those words made Sean’s jaw clench.
He wanted to speak again, but the sound of the elevator doors opening suddenly echoed from the end of the hallway.
Shortly after, Leo appeared, walking casually with several bags of groceries in his hands. The man was dressed in simple, casual clothes—a stark contrast to Sean, who always looked formal and expensive.
Yet for some reason, that sight only made Sean’s chest feel even hotter.
Leo stopped a few steps away from them. His gaze shifted directly from Clara to Sean without much change in expression.
"Oh," he said flatly. "So there’s still a guest here."
Sean immediately glared at him. "Are you living here now?"
Leo raised one eyebrow slightly. "What’s it to you?"
The atmosphere suddenly turned cold.
Clara immediately massaged her temples gently. "Don’t start."
But Sean didn’t take his eyes off Leo at all. His gaze fell on the bag of food the man was carrying.
"Are you guys having dinner together?"
Leo just strolled past Sean and handed the bag of food to Clara.
"You said you hadn’t eaten yet," he said calmly. "So I bought your favorite soup."
Clara paused briefly before finally taking the bag gently. "Thank you."
And those two simple words were enough to make Sean feel even more uncomfortable.
Because back then...
Clara always did little things like that for him.
Waiting for him to eat. Bringing him medicine. Reminding him of his schedule. Staying by his side when he was stressed.
But Sean had been too busy chasing after Moana to realize how special all that attention was.
Now, seeing Clara receive the same kind of attention from another man made something inside him feel tight.
"You sure found a replacement fast," Sean sneered coldly.
Clara immediately shot him a sharp look. "Watch your mouth."
Leo just chuckled. "Interesting. You’ve been cheating openly for years, but now you’re jealous?"
Sean’s face turned icy.
"I’m talking to my ex-wife."
"And I’m talking to the woman you’re harassing right at her own doorstep," Leo replied casually.
Tension instantly filled the apartment hallway.
Clara was utterly exhausted watching the two men glare at each other as if they were about to tear each other apart.
"Enough," she said firmly.
Sean immediately turned his head toward her.
But Clara no longer looked at him with the pain she once felt.
That gaze was now filled only with exhaustion.
"I don’t want my life to be full of problems anymore," she said softly.
Those words made Sean fall silent for a moment.
While Leo stood calmly beside Clara, Sean felt himself growing even further apart from her.
And now, Sean began to fear that Clara would truly choose someone else.
The apartment door finally closed right in front of Sean’s face.
The man stood motionless for a few seconds in the silent hallway. His jaw tightened. His hands clenched at his sides.
Behind that door were Clara. And Leo.
That simple scene kept replaying in his head. Leo came in with food. Clara accepted it calmly. No tears. No tension. No fear like when she was still with him.
It was as if Clara was slowly beginning to find a new life without him.
And Sean hated that feeling.
Thud!
Sean punched the hallway wall hard before finally walking away with heavy steps.
********
The apartment door finally closed right in front of Sean’s face.
The man stood motionless for a few seconds in the silent hallway. His jaw tightened. His hands clenched tightly at his sides.
What bothered him most wasn’t what Clara had said.
Nor was it Leo’s presence.
It was the way Clara looked at him.
Calm. At ease. Unharmed.
Back then, Clara had reserved that kind of gaze solely for him.
Sean ran a hand over his rough face, then walked toward the elevator without saying another word.
---
It was getting late when Sean entered an exclusive bar in the city center.
Dim lights reflected off the glass tables and the expensive bottles behind the bartender. Soft music filled the room, but Sean’s head felt far noisier than the place itself.
He sat in a corner seat and ordered whiskey without saying much.
The first glass was gone quickly.
Then the second.
Sean leaned back, staring blankly at the bar’s bustling crowd. A few women glanced his way; some even smiled flirtatiously.
But Sean wasn’t interested at all.
His mind was consumed by Clara.
Unfortunately, the more he tried to forget her, the clearer Clara’s face became in his mind.
The Clara who used to wait for him to come home late at night. The Clara who always massaged his head when he was stressed. The Clara who cried when she found out he was cheating with Moana.
And Sean...
Had actually left all that behind for the woman who was now trying to destroy him.
Sean chuckled softly and shook his head slowly.
"How stupid," he muttered softly to himself.
The bartender poured more whiskey into his glass.
"Are you okay, sir?" the man asked cautiously.
Sean gave a thin, humorless smile. "What do you think?"
The bartender fell silent again.
Shortly after, Sean’s phone screen lit up.
A news notification appeared.
> "The public is beginning to question the deletion of Moana’s account. The Weasley family is accused of suppressing information."
Sean’s expression immediately turned cold.
Moana’s name again.
That woman was truly starting to disrupt his life like a poison spreading slowly.
But strangely...
As Sean tried to figure out how to stop Moana, the image of Clara popped into his mind again.
Clara standing beside Leo.
Clara accepting food from another man.
Clara saying that her feelings were dead.
Sean downed his whiskey in one gulp.
For the first time in his life, he felt defeated—not because of business.
But because of someone he had once been so certain would never leave.
"Clara ...! What the fuck is happening to you?! Why must Leo that stand by yourself, why ...!?"
