Chapter 466: Chapter 468: Two Shameless Team Up, Invincible in Pranking
Bai Ruozhu also pointed at Jiang Yichun, telling Du Fuling, "Yes, he is the one who saved you."
Having just laid eyes on the handsome and refined Xu Huilin, Du Fuling was even more infatuated with her "savior." She refused to believe that this handsome man in front of her was not her longed-for "savior."
Besides, she saw Bai Ruozhu’s sly, mischievous smile, which made her doubt even more. Thinking of how her "savior" did not want to leave his name and how Bai Ruozhu stubbornly refused to disclose anything about her "savior," she realized that they had found a fake "savior" to distract her.
In her excitement, Du Fuling grabbed Xu Huilin’s sleeve and said, "Savior, I know it’s definitely you. Nobody can deceive me. I trust my own feelings."
Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun were on the verge of laughing out loud, but they managed to suppress their laughter to keep up the act. Jiang Yichun played along, saying, "It’s me! Why don’t you believe me?"
However, his tone and voice were quite different from his usual calm demeanor, a bit high-pitched and a hint of a playboy’s charm.
Upon hearing this, Du Fuling frowned with disdain, saying contemptuously, "How could you possibly be my savior?! Go fool someone else! You two liars better stay away from me or I might just lose my temper."
Bai Ruozhu innocently looked at Xu Huilin and said, "I did what you asked for, but she didn’t believe me. It’s not my fault."
"Bai Ruozhu!" Xu Huilin shouted in frustration. Her statement implied that she had been telling the truth, but to others, especially to Du Fuling, it sounded like he had instructed her to lie.
When Du Fuling saw her "savior" angry with Bai Ruozhu, she couldn’t help but laugh out loud. It was only when a cold breeze wafted in and made her teeth chattering that she realized her teeth were on display. She hurriedly covered her nose and mouth with her hand.
Xu Huilin felt disgusted by her pretentious actions and wanted to kick her away but had to hold back his impulse. With a huff, he shrugged and said, "Okay, you guys win. I’ll remember this." Saying this, he turned around to leave and Du Fuling chased after him, yelling, "Savior, wait for me!"
Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun looked at each other and burst into laughter.
"Are we doing the right thing by tricking your senior?" Bai Ruozhu asked, her eyes filled with amusement and not a trace of guilt.
"No, we are just telling the truth, it’s just that Du Fuling believes too much in her feelings," Jiang Yichun answered, laughing.
The two of them almost laughed out loud on the street. The duo’s prank got even Senior Fox, making them an unbeatable team.
Jiang Yichun wanted to hold Bai Ruozhu’s hand, but fearing of causing gossip that could hurt her reputation, he just looked at her laughing face, feeling a yearning akin to cats scratching him from within.
A carriage passed by nearby, and Fang Guizhi stuck out her head, calling out, "Isn’t that Ruozhu? Is she coming to find us?"
Bai Ruozhu, with her sharp sense of hearing, immediately caught the sound. She hurriedly told Jiang Yichun, "It seems like my family is here. I need to go and take care of Little Dengdeng."
Jiang Yichun nodded, "Go ahead, or else that little guy will start crying again."
"So, are you leaving soon?" Bai Ruozhu asked, somewhat unwilling to part ways.
"As soon as the bandit issue is resolved, I’ll come to accompany you." Jiang Yichun looked at her affectionately, wishing to take her into his arms and give her a passionate kiss.
While they were talking, the carriage came to a stop nearby. Ruozhu took another glance at him and said, "I should go now. Please be cautious."
Jiang Yichun nodded and watched as she ran towards the carriage. He didn’t leave until the carriage was out of sight.
In the carriage were Fang Guizhi, Wan Caiyue, Fusa, plus the three children, including Xiaosi. After getting in, Ruozhu asked, "Is it just you guys? Where are the others?"
Fang Guizhi, having been cooped up in Anyuan Town, was thrilled at the newfound freedom in Beiyu City. Cheering up, she said, "Your parents and the others are in a different carriage. They probably didn’t see you and have moved on already."
Bai Ruozhu laughed, "Thankfully you’ve been looking out of the window, otherwise I would’ve taken a different path."
"Hehe, as long as I didn’t disturb you." Fang Guizhi laughed. She just noticed Bai Ruozhu when she had a clear line of sight, unaware that Jiang Yichun was there. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have called out to Ruozhu, interrupting her rendezvous.
Bai Ruozhu playfully flicked her on the forehead, saying, "You’re picking up bad habits from all this bantering, be careful or you might have trouble finding a husband."
The mere mention of finding a husband made Fang Guizhi blush instantly, rendering her speechless.
Everyone in the carriage burst into laughter, but they refrained from bringing up the fact that Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun were together.
Upon arriving home, Bai Ruozhu took Little Dengdeng from her mother’s arms and asked, "My stinky little boy, have you missed your mom?"
Little Dengdeng wriggled in her arms, nuzzling against her chest. It was clear that he was hungry. Bai Ruozhu, both amused and exasperated, returned to her room. By the time she was done feeding Dengdeng, lunch was almost ready.
Lin Ping’er and the others had been to the market and bought plenty of provisions. They had also bought some prepared dishes for lunch, so it was quickly readied.
"Where’s your second brother? Why isn’t he with you?" Lin Ping’er asked.
"I went to see the old lady and he was probably invited to have lunch by Mister Meng. By the way, my second brother will be starting classes at Beiyu Study Palace the day after tomorrow. Let’s find out this afternoon if there’s anything we need to prepare," Bai Ruozhu replied.
Lin Ping’er lit up, "So soon? That’s great!"
Zhang Liliang joined the conversation, saying, "Let me find out after lunch, you guys can take a break."
Bai Ruozhu smiled gratefully at him, knowing it would be more convenient for a man to enquire at the academy.
Soon everyone sat down to have lunch. Now that there were more people, they had to set up two tables. Lin Ping’er and Aunt Lin commented that living in the city was expensive, especially for basic needs like rice and flour. They should have bought more to bring over before they moved to the city.
Bai Ruozhu laughed and said, "In that case, we wouldn’t have had enough space on the carriage. We would have had to hire another one and if you included the carriage fare, the cost wouldn’t have been much different."
"That’s true. The farmland close to Beiyu City must be quite expensive too," Lin Ping’er mumbled.
"Once we have enough money, we can buy some land near Beiyu City," Bai Ruozhu said casually while eating.
Lin Ping’er rolled her eyes and said, "I reckon that land here is probably two or three times more expensive than in the countryside. It’s not that easy to buy land."
Bai Ruozhu smiled at her mother, "Aren’t good days acquired step by step? We’ll eventually have our land and money. There will always be enough rice to eat."
The faces of those present lit up with hope. If anyone else had made such a statement, they might have dismissed it as bluffing. However, coming from Bai Ruozhu, they felt hopeful.
