Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 187: Ethan’s scheme
The time had come to finally leave the outpost and head towards the lost city. Uriel was feeling much better now that Sam showed up and brought Luna along with him. It wasn’t just that he wanted to have his friends around, his odds of surviving were also increased by their presence.
Because of Jon’s rank, the Mapple corporation party was going to be the last one to be dispatched and because of their numbers, the army would be the second to go. That meant that Uriel’s party had to be the first to set off, something that didn’t bode well for them.
Especially Janett who was certain she was heading to a death trap. Nika, on the other hand, couldn’t care less about the order in which they headed outside and she was still sulking about the loss of her precious motorcycle.
The outpost was located near the lost city, in fact, it was so close it could be seen from the watchtower. But that didn’t mean it was an easy trip now that cryptids were roaming in hordes instead of small packs.
"Tread carefully, even if we don’t see anything it doesn’t mean there’s nothing nearby." Nika reminded everyone, though it wasn’t necessary because they had Sam on their group and his trait allowed him to see everything.
Sam was capable of telling how many cryptids were nearby and what their numbers were and thanks to that they were able to avoid most of them and choose the safest path and soon, they reached the meeting spot. Now that they were inside the POI, cryptids were more scarce but also a lot stronger and their only advantage was the many buildings that could serve as hideouts
Uriel led the group towards a sealed building and he swiftly took out the boards that kept it sealed for who knows how long. The place inside was dusty and the building was in shambles, but it provided enough cover to keep them safe for the time being.
"Nika, do it." Uriel commanded and Nika nodded as she disappeared into the shadows.
"Miss Nika!" janett exclaimed, but Sam scolded her.
"Keep it down, it seems we’re in trouble." He too had no idea of what was going on, but if Uriel asked Nika to use her trait it couldn’t be for nothing.
Nika came back after a couple minutes and shook her head.
"It’s just as you thought, they lied to us." Nika’s voice was soon muffled by the sound of a horde of beasts running amok in the street right outside their hideout.

About half an hour after Uriel’s party set off, Medusa realized something was off. Not a single soldier seemed to be getting ready to depart and it seemed as though they were just stalling. Because of this, she went to complain directly to their leader, the colonel Ethan Jacobson.
"What is the meaning of this? You should be on your way already."
"Calm down, it’s not like we won’t benefit should something happen to them, right?" Ethan smiled slyly.
"You sent them to die! I’ll let uncle Jon know about this." Medusa yelled teary eyed.
"Whose idea do you think it was?" Ethan shrugged his shoulders. "We can’t do anything directly to them, but if something happens because of a mistake no one will be able to blame us and we can take out the competition without getting our hands dirty."
Jon had no idea about any of this and at the moment he was upstairs drinking and flirting with Charlie. It was only one of Ethan’s shady tactics to raise trouble within the Mapple corporation party, though he didn’t expect something like that to happen.
"You can’t do something like that!" Tina Celes shouted from the doorframe. Her usual calm voice and composed demeanor was nowhere to be seen and Ethan was taken aback by her demeanor but he wasn’t inconvenienced in the slightest. In fact, he considered making Tina angry a bonus but that lasted until a corporal rushed in.

"Colonel, we have a situation."
"Don’t interrupt me when I’m in such good mood." Ethan scolded with a grin that sent shivers down the poor soldier’s spine.

"But, this is urgent. Someone grabbed the relics, all three of them!"
Ethan’s smile did’t disappear from his face, but his brows furrowed and his face reddened in anger.
"Let those girls do whatever they like, they won’t last an hour in the barrenlands."
"Lieutenant Shaker left with them."
While both Medusa and Tina hated each other guts, none of them wanted to see Uriel die a meaningless death, all because of other people’s greed. Even if it meant getting scolded by their respective families they decided to team up, steal the relics and meet with Uriel. By doing so, they were forcing the hand of both their parties and they would have no choice but to follow after them.
Luckily for them, one of the two soldiers guarding the relics was no other than Shaker himself and he decided to help on their quest to save Uriel, though his motivation wasn’t as innocent as they may have thought.
"Mister Jon! Miss Medusa and Tina ran off to the lost city on their own." Ethan informed Jon.
"Why would they do something as stupid as that and why didn’t you set off already?" Jon said after taking a sip of whiskey.
"I... I don’t know!" Ethan said. Jon gazed towards Seiren, who shook her head signaling him that he was lying.
"Are you involved in it somehow?"
"Of course not! I’m offended!" Once more, Seiren shook her head. Ethan had no idea what her trait was, but he was starting to have his suspicions about it.
"I guess it’s time for us to move, then. Let’s drink some other time Charlie." Jon tipped his hat and left the place while cracking his neck. "If something happens to that girl, the old man is going to kick my ass." He let out in a sigh.
There was a huge commotion outside as the soldiers were getting ready to follow after Medusa and Tina, but the Mapple corporation had no need to prepare as the only hunters they were sending to the lost city were Jon and Seiren.
