Football System: Touchline God-Chapter 77: The Second Half Begins I
The ball rolled to Connor Davis. The Hastings midfielder was calm in the center circle.
[> "And we’re back underway," <] Michael Harrison announced. [> "Hastings Coastal Academy with the kickoff, leading 2-1 here in the Coastal Arena." <]
Davis touched it back to Ben Williams. The midfielder was already looking for options.
The crowd was loud. Seven thousand voices creating a wall of sound.
[> "What an atmosphere," <] Peter Walsh observed. [> "The Coastal Arena is rocking." <]
Williams played a safe pass to Jake Thompson. The midfielder controlled it well.
Thompson looked up and saw Dylan Foster making a run down the right wing. The pass was simple but effective.
[> "Hastings starting slowly," <] Michael Harrison noted. [> "They want to keep possession early." <]
Foster had space to work with. Declan Whittaker was tracking back, but the full-back had time.
The cross came in high. Aimed at Marcus Price in the 18-yard box.
Will van Drunen was tight behind the striker. The Dutch defender wasn’t giving him any room to breathe.
[> "Price in the 18-yard box," <] Peter Walsh said. [> "Van Drunen marking him closely after that penalty incident." <]
The ball was headed clear by Jack Stones. The captain’s timing was perfect.
It dropped to Émile Fournier twenty yards out. The French midfielder controlled it on his chest.
[> "Jack Stones with the clearance," <] Michael Harrison observed. [> "Rising Stars looking to start their comeback." <]
Fournier turned and played the ball to Harvey Quinlan. The midfielder was already moving forward.
[> "This is what Maddox wanted," <] Peter Walsh noted. [> "Quick transitions. Direct football." <]
Quinlan drove forward with the ball. Ben Williams was tracking back, trying to slow him down.
The next pass came left to Declan Whittaker. The winger had beaten Dylan Foster to the ball.
[> "Whittaker down the left," <] Michael Harrison said. [> "He’s got pace to burn." <]
Whittaker took on Foster again. The right-back was struggling to match his acceleration.
The cross came in low and hard. Luis Navarro was making his run into the 18-yard box.
Tom Bradley read it well. The captain stepped in front of the striker and cleared.
[> "Bradley with the interception," <] Peter Walsh observed. [> "Solid defending from the Hastings captain." <]
The ball bounced to Connor Davis. The midfielder was already looking to switch play.
Davis found Nathan Price on the right wing with a well struck long ball. The younger Price brother controlled it well.
[> "Nathan Price with space," <] Michael Harrison noted. [> "Hastings looking to counter." <]
Nathan drove at Marcelo. The Brazilian left-back was already backpedaling.
The winger cut inside, away from the touchline. His left foot was ready.
The shot came from twenty-five yards. Rising toward the top corner.
Freddie Booth was already moving. The young keeper pushed it over the bar.
[> "SAVED!" <] Peter Walsh screamed. [> "Booth with a brilliant stop!" <]
The home crowd groaned. That was close to killing the game.
[> "Nathan Price nearly put this to bed," <] Michael Harrison observed. [> "What a strike that was." <]
The corner kick was quickly taken by Connor Davis. The ball was whipped in toward the back post.
Marcus Price was already moving. The striker had lost his marker.
[> "PRICE IS FREE!" <] Peter Walsh shouted.
The header was powerful. Aimed at the bottom corner.
But Freddie Booth was already diving. The keeper got his fingertips to it.
The ball hit the post and bounced clear.
[> "OFF THE POST!" <] Michael Harrison screamed. [> "How did that stay out?" <]
The rebound fell to Sam Rodriguez. The left winger was six yards out. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
His follow-up shot was blocked by Jack Stones. The captain threw his body in the way.
[> "BLOCKED!" <] Peter Walsh yelled. [> "Stones with a crucial intervention!" <]
The ball bounced loose in the penalty area. Players from both teams rushed toward it.
Alex Morgan got there first. The center-back cleared it long.
[> "Cleared!" <] Michael Harrison noted. [> "Rising Stars survive." <]
The away fans were on their feet. Their team had just escaped disaster.
"Come on, Stars!" they chanted. "Keep fighting!"
Luis Navarro collected the clearance near the halfway line. The striker was already looking forward.
[> "Navarro with the ball," <] Peter Walsh observed. [> "Rising Stars need to capitalize on any given opportunity." <]
Luis played it to Ishaan Bhatt. The number ten was taking up a higher position, just like Maddox wanted.
[> "Bhatt further forward," <] Michael Harrison noted. [> "That’s a tactical change from Rising Stars." <]
Ishaan turned and faced goal. Jake Thompson was already closing him down.
The pass came right to Ethan Suleiman. The winger had drifted inside.
[> "Suleiman cutting in," <] Peter Walsh said. [> "He’s dangerous from this position." <]
Suleiman took a touch and looked up. Ryan Clarke was backing off.
He cocked his leg and launched a thunder-strike from the edge of the 18-yard box. The shot came from nineteen yards. Low and hard, aimed at the near post.
Unfortunately, Ryan Clarke’s stray studs deflected it off course to the keepers position. James Mitchell was down quickly. The keeper saved it comfortably.
[> "Mitchell gathers," <] Michael Harrison observed. [> "Routine save for the Hastings keeper, and a timely block from Clarke." <]
Mitchell looked up and saw Marcus Price making a run. The keeper rolled it out to Tom Bradley instead.
[> "Hastings keeping it calm," <] Peter Walsh noted. [> "No rush to go forward." <]
Bradley played it to Alex Morgan. The center-back had time and space.
Morgan looked up and saw Connor Davis in space. The pass was long but accurate.
[> "Davis in space," <] Michael Harrison said. [> "Hastings looking to stretch the game." <]
Davis controlled it and immediately looked for Marcus Price. The striker was already moving.
The pass was weighted perfectly. Marcus had beaten the offside trap.
[> "PRICE IS THROUGH!" <] Peter Walsh screamed.
The striker was one-on-one with Freddie Booth. The young keeper was already off his line.
[> "This could be game over!" <] Michael Harrison shouted.
Marcus steadied himself. The goal was at his mercy.
But Will van Drunen was chasing back. The Dutch defender was closing the angle.
Marcus shot early. The ball was rising toward the top corner.
