Chapter 288: Playing the Villain -2
"Yohan, what are you doing here?" Gunjoo didn’t wait a moment after leaving to ask.
He pulled him inside one of the empty offices and began questioning him.
"I had no other choice they arrived at the worst possible moment,"
"Let me guess you were just about to kiss her?" He asked,
"Even better," Yohan smirked for a moment before remembering the disappointment that followed when those goons appeared.
"But then your crew members showed up and ruined everything,"
"A-Are you serious?!" Gunjoo looked at him in disbelief
"So you really were doing it? I thought you were going after her grandfather how did you end up in her bed?"
Questions after questions filled his mind, when he showed Yohan her picture he didn’t expect this to be the outcome.
"I’m sure it’s easy getting girls with your pretty face, but you still choose to go after that one?"
"Why not? She’s hot. And she can lead me to Hatoru,"
Gunjoo was stunned by how easy the words rolled out of his mouth.
"So you really are just using her to get to Hatoru?"
"How many times do you people want me to say it?" Yohan sighed.
"N-No, it’s just that I thought... you said before that you would be going after the book instead of the girl,"
"So that was why you went after her instead?" His gaze hardened, sharp enough to cut through bone.
"No, N-No, that’s not what happened. They came for us first, after what happened at their hideout they came searching for the money you took,"
"Are you trying to say they came after your crew because of me?"
"Why do you keep calling it a crew?! We are an organization, like a private company of some sort,"
"A Criminal organization?" Yohan said it to make him look bad.
But Gunjoo was rather appreciative, "Yes, that has better ring to it,"
Yohan could only shake his head,
"How can you be proud of being a criminal?" he asked, facepalming.
"Why not?" the man shrugged. "Most people who make money in this world have cheated at some point. So what difference does it make if I join them? It’s the only thing I’m good at anyway."
He paused, his tone hardening slightly. "I only know money and violence... So why shouldn’t I be proud of it?"
"Right now... you’re deceiving the girl just to reach her grandfather. So don’t act like you’re any different."
"I’m not deceiving her," Yohan protested.
"Then what are you doing with her?" Gunjoo asked.
Yohan couldn’t answer. He didn’t want to reveal his goal even to Gunjoo, and a part of him wondered if maybe that was exactly what he was doing to Izumi.
"You’re right," he answered, "she’s was supposed to be a tool in my plans but your people came in and ruined everything,"
"Ruined it? We made everything easier. Now that we have her we can make a demand for her life, Hatoru would do anything to get his granddaughter back safely,"
"Okay, so what is your organization going to demand for?" Yohan asked.
"That’s left for the boss to decide..."
Yohan let out a frustrated sigh, "can you at least tell me if she’s going to be okay?"
Gunjoo remained quiet, "The boss wouldn’t touch her... at least not yet,"
"Why do you keep going on about ’the boss’?" Yohan asked, a mocking edge in his voice. "Didn’t take you for the type to kiss ass for a living."
"Everyone has to answer to someone," Gunjoo replied with a sigh, "That includes you now..."
"Fuck no," Yohan spat, "I’m my own boss..."
"The boss wouldn’t just let you leave now that you have come here" Gunjoo tried to explain
"Who’s going to stop me?" he asked coldly
Gunjoo couldn’t answer confidently. He remembered the day they attacked Roman, he was sent flying from a single slap, but that wasn’t the most surprising part.
It was after he opened his eyes to see Yohan beating Roman without any stress. Back then he had to pretend he was knocked out just to avoid any other problems.
The strength Yohan had shown made no sense to him.
"Yohan, even if you are strong, my boss, Mason Blackfire is just as dangerous as Hatoru, you shouldn’t make an enemy out of him. You should stay away from this life of violence, you’re a good kid,"
"I never chose this life, the violence just keeps coming to me," Yohan replied calmly.
Gunjoo could tell by the expression on his face, a lot of things were going through his mind. He was still the same kid that walked into his office looking for a loan, yet something had changed in him.
"Hey... how about that thing Roman said...?"
"What thing?" Yohan wondered.
"The thing about a Baker..." he replied hesitantly.
"You heard all that?" Yohan was surprised because he never asked until now.
"Yeah, but I thought it was all bullshit until recently the boss mentioned something similar,"
"what did he say?"
He struggled awkwardly to answer.
"I can’t say... you know... criminal crew and all..."
"Okay," Yohan nodded with understanding, "then I also can’t answer you... you can find out about the Baker yourself,"
"Come on, don’t be like that. You know I didn’t mention anything about this to the boss and even defended you just now. If there’s anything that can make me grow stronger then I’d like to know,"
Yohan was about to tell him off again but he stopped to consider it,
"How bad do you want to know?"
"Just tell me the price, I’m ready to pay," Gunjoo said with a straight face, his voice filled with resolve.
"There’s nothing you can offer me," Yohan said flatly, then paused, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. "But... do one thing for me, and I might tell you exactly who the Baker is, and how to reach him."
The words hung heavy in the air.
"I-I don’t know..." Gunjoo muttered, eyes dropping, fingers twitching at his side.
"You should know." Yohan leaned in slightly, voice lowering. "Because this? This is way above your pay grade."
He let the silence stretch before finishing
"But if you pull it off..." his gaze sharpened, "you won’t just get answers."
"You’ll get an instant promotion in your organization... You might even want to take over the whole thing."
