Chapter 32: Red Imp Talisman

The Red Arch-Imp

Their entry into the dungeon, was met not by a welcome, but by the Crimson arch-imp springing into action.

RoOOAAAARRGHHH!!!

The Arch-Imp’s roar shook the chamber, reverberating off the stone walls and sending ripples across the lava moat. The creature raised its volcanic halberd high, the blade glowing white-hot against the dim red light of the room.

King stepped forward, summoning construct seals around both hands. Blue energy spiraled outward, forming translucent shields that hovered at his sides.

"Vi, stay behind the pillars," King called out. "Move when I move. Don’t stay in one spot for more than three seconds."

Vi nodded, positioning herself near the closest pillar.

The Crimson Arch-Imp slammed the butt of its halberd into the stone floor.

[ASH-CLOUD BURST.]

A thick wave of black smoke and glowing embers exploded outward in a perfect circle, spreading across the arena floor. The smoke was dense, choking, and it carried the acrid smell of burning sulfur.

King retreated immediately, pulling Vi back with him toward the far pillar. The smoke engulfed the center of the room, obscuring visibility and forcing them to the edges.

"First attack," King said, coughing slightly despite the fire resistance potion. "Area denial. It’s trying to limit our movement. Stay near the walls."

Vi pressed herself against the pillar, covering her mouth with her free hand. The smoke began to dissipate after a few seconds, clearing just enough to reveal the boss again.

The Crimson Arch-Imp dragged its halberd along the ground, the blade scraping against stone with a screech that set King’s teeth on edge. The weapon began to glow brighter, heat radiating from it in waves.

[MAGMA CLEAVE.]

The boss swung the halberd in a wide horizontal arc, and a crescent wave of liquid fire erupted from the blade. The wave shot forward, carving through the air and leaving a burning trail on the floor that cut across the arena.

King dove left, summoning a construct barrier mid-roll to block the residual heat. Vi threw herself right, activating her own barrier spell to shield herself from the flames.

The crescent wave slammed into one of the stone pillars, destroying it completely. The pillar exploded into chunks of superheated rock that scattered across the floor, glowing red.

"One pillar down," King muttered, scrambling to his feet. "Three left."

The Crimson Arch-Imp turned toward King, its molten eyes locking onto him. The creature began advancing, with the halberd raised.

"Guess I’ve got its aggro now" King thought, summoning four construct spears and launching them in rapid succession. The projectiles shot across the arena, slamming into the boss’s chest and shoulders.

The spears shattered on impact.

The Crimson Arch-Imp pushed back a bit, but Its hardened molten plating absorbed the attacks majorly, the cracks in its skin glowed brighter for a moment before dimming again.

"As expected, it’s physical resistance is high," King said, backing away. "I’ll need to soften it up before we can deal real damage."

The large boss leaped.

[IGNITED LEAP.]

The Crimson Arch-Imp channeled fire into its legs, the stone joints glowing red-hot. It launched itself high into the air, soaring across the chamber in a powerful arc.

King tracked the trajectory, calculating the landing zone. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

"Vi, move!" King shouted.

Vi sprinted away from her position just as the boss came crashing down. The Crimson Arch-Imp landed where she’d been standing a second earlier, slamming into the floor with enough force to shatter the stone tiles beneath it. A fiery shockwave erupted outward, spreading in a circular blast.

King summoned a construct wall between himself and the shockwave, and another protecting Vi, while she also activated her barrier spell again, reinforcing King’s defense.

The shockwave dissipated, and the boss straightened, turning its attention to Vi.

"Shit!," King muttered. "It’s focusing on her now."

The Crimson Arch-Imp took two heavy steps toward Vi, raising its halberd for another strike.

King acted immediately. He summoned two large and strengthened construct chains with arrow heads that shot across the arena, piercing through the boss’s legs. The arrow heads fixed firmly, yanking the creature backward and forcing it off balance.

The Crimson Arch-Imp roared, swinging its halberd wildly as it tried to free itself. The blade cut through one of the chains, but King had already summoned replacements.

"Vi, now!" King called out. "Get out of there!"

Vi retreated backward, her eyes filled with terror. She had gotten used to the imps, but this was so not what she expected.

The Crimson Arch-Imp screeched, thrashing violently. It shattered the remaining chains with raw, brute strength and swung its halberd in a wide arc.

Vi barely escaped the range in time, the blade passing inches over her head as she retreated to the far side of the arena, breathing hard.

King assessed the situation. The boss’s health bar had dropped by about fifteen percent. But it wasn’t enough. He needed to deal more damage, and fast.

The Crimson Arch-Imp leaped onto one of the remaining pillars, clinging to the stone with surprising agility. It pointed its free hand toward the ceiling.

[CINDER HAIL.]

Small, rapid-fire sparks erupted from the boss’s hand, raining down across the arena like burning pebbles. The sparks fell in a wide spread, covering almost the entire floor.

King summoned a large construct dome over himself and Vi, shielding them from the hail. The sparks pinged off the translucent barrier, hissing and sputtering as they hit.

The Cinder Hail lasted for ten seconds before stopping. Then, the Crimson Arch-Imp dropped from the pillar, landing heavily on the arena floor.

Its health bar was at seventy percent now.

King dismissed the dome and summoned another volley of construct blades. This time, he aimed for the boss’s joints, targeting the glowing cracks in its molten plating.

The blades struck true, driving into the weak points. The Crimson Arch-Imp staggered, its movements slowing as the damage accumulated.

[CRITICAL HIT]

[CRITICAL HIT]

The boss’s health bar dropped to fifty percent.

And then the creature changed.

The Crimson Arch-Imp cracked open its own chest, the molten plating splitting apart to reveal a glowing core inside. The core pulsed with intense heat, radiating waves of energy that distorted the air around it.

FLAME SPATE.

Continuous jets of flame began spraying randomly from the boss’s torso, shooting in erratic directions. The flames were wild, unpredictable, and they turned the arena into a deathtrap.

King cursed under his breath.

"Desperation phase," he said. "We need to finish this fast or the room’s going to cook us alive."

The temperature in the chamber was already rising. King felt sweat dripping down his face, and Vi looked pale from the heat, thanks to their little fire resistance they could last longer.

King took steps back, avoiding direct contact with the jets of flame while consuming one Mana Potion.

"Enough" he whispered, creating more sophisticated constructs.

Two giant palms appeared on the left and right side of the Crimson Arch-Imp. Slamming into it with a thunderous crashing, and holding it in place in a tightened double grip.

On King’s left hand, the Gauntlet of Ruin activated, the legendary armament surging with intense energy.

King felt different wielding it. The Combatant class had unlocked deeper access to the gauntlet’s true power, allowing him to generate more destructive output without depleting his mana reserves as quickly.

He sprinted forward, closing the distance between himself and the boss from the blind angle.

The Crimson Arch-Imp was still struggling to overpower the grip.

King leaped.

He launched himself into the air, using a construct platform to boost his jump. He soared over the boss’s shoulder, reaching out with the gauntlet as he descended.

And touched the Crimson Arch-Imp’s head.

RUIN’S TOUCH.

The effect was immediate.

The boss’s head disintegrated. The molten plating, the glowing core, the hardened stone skin—all of it dissolved into ash and vapor in an instant. The destruction spread rapidly, consuming the creature’s torso, arms, and legs.

The Crimson Arch-Imp shattered into fragments, collapsing into a pile of smoldering debris that scattered across the arena floor.

King landed heavily, the gauntlet still glowing with residual energy. He deactivated the armament and exhaled slowly.

Vi stopped running, staring at the remains of the boss in shock.

"Wow, You just... destroyed it."

King nodded, examining the gauntlet before tucking it back under his garment.

"The Combatant class truly unlocked more of the gauntlet’s power," he thought. " I wonder how powerful this really gets."

King stared at the description. It didn’t have the highest percentage of resistance, but it had a wide spectrum of effects it was resistant to, and with the upgrade the percent just went from it’s default 10 to a 20.

He opened his inventory and confirmed the talisman, a small circular charm made of red and looking like an imp head symbol.

King equipped the talisman immediately.

Vi approached, still catching her breath.

"That was intense," she said.

"Yeah, but I need you to get as much experience, that’s why I asked you to come" King agreed. "And, we got what we came for."

"I really needed that" Vi responded promptly.

He looked around the arena one more time, confirming there were no additional chests or collectibles.

"Aight, let’s get out of here."

They turned and walked toward the exit corridor that had appeared on the far side of the chamber.

The dungeon was complete.
