Others Summon Beasts, I Summon Yandere Wives
Chapter 17: Starter Dungeon. (Part 1)
The morning sun struggled to pierce the haze hanging over the broken city as Finn and Nyx made their way through the deserted streets.
The silence was oppressive, broken only by the crunch of debris under their feet and the occasional distant moan of monsters.
Finn kept a watchful eye on their surroundings as he explained the concept of video games and beta testing to Nyx. Her face remained impassive, but he could sense her interest through their bond.
’So this "Integration" mirrors a game from your world,’ she mused. ’A game you devoted a great deal of time to studying.’
Finn nodded. ’That’s right. I never got to play it myself, but I read everything I could about it. Watched every leaked video. It’s the only reason I’m still alive now.’
Nyx hummed thoughtfully. ’Your diligence does you credit, Bearer. This knowledge is a potent weapon in this altered world.’
Pride bloomed warm in Finn’s chest at her words. Coming from Nyx, that was high praise indeed.
They continued on, picking their way through the rubble-strewn streets. Every so often, they would spot signs of other survivors.
A barricaded shop front, a hastily abandoned campsite. But they saw no living soul. It seemed everyone who remained had huddled into safe zones like the one they’d left behind.
’We should look for clues to a starter dungeon’s location,’ Finn said, peering down a side alley. ’In the beta, there were always signposts. Graffiti, or weird carvings. Anything that stands out.’
They searched as they walked, scanning the cityscape with intent eyes. Minutes bled into hours, the sun climbing high overhead. Sweat beaded on Finn’s brow, his pack growing heavier with each step.
Just as frustration began to mount, Nyx stopped abruptly. ’Bearer. Look.’
She pointed to a nearby wall. There, etched into the brickwork, was an odd, angular symbol. It pulsed faintly when Finn focused on it, as if reacting to his gaze. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
[Dungeon Marker Discovered!]
[Fractured Caverns - 500m]
Finn’s heart leapt.
’That’s it! A dungeon marker!’ He grinned at Nyx, a surge of affection rushing through him. ’Good eye.’
She smirked, pleased. ’I do try.’
Rejuvenated by their find, they pressed on. More markers appeared as they went, forming a clear trail. The surrounding buildings grew more dilapidated, nature reclaiming the urban sprawl.
Finally, they rounded a corner and found themselves at the mouth of a large fissure. It cleaved the street in two, its depths lost in shadow. A final marker pulsed beside it like a heartbeat.

[Enter?]
Finn and Nyx exchanged a glance.
"Ready?" He asked, trying to sound more confident than he felt.
’Of course.’
Side by side, they stepped into the abyss.
☼☼☼
The shadows enveloped them like a living thing, cool and clinging. The fissure wall was damp beneath Finn’s questing fingers, slick with some unidentifiable moisture. He shuddered with unease.
Ahead, a faint afterglow bloomed. Finn squinted, making out the vague shape of a cavern. Eerie light danced along the walls, cast by clusters of glowing crystals jutting from the stone.
’Stay alert. Starter dungeons always have a gimmick. Some quirk to trip up unprepared players.’
Nyx nodded, her rebar held at the ready. They advanced into the cavern slowly, every sense straining. The air grew colder as they went, their breath misting before their faces.
A skittering sound echoed from the depths, the dry rasp of chitin on stone. Finn froze, his heart hammering against his ribs. Beside him, Nyx went still.
’Here we go,’ he breathed.
The first Cavern Crawler emerged from a shadowed crevice, its many legs working in eerie unison. Its shell glistened wetly in the crystalline light, all slick angles and grasping pincers.
[Cavern Crawler - lvl 7]
More shapes stirred in the depths of the cavern, called from their holes by some unseen signal. First one, then three, then a dozen. Soon, a small horde of Crawlers filled the space, blocking the path forward.
Finn swallowed hard. In the beta, starter dungeons had been difficult, but manageable for new player. A test of tactics and timing.
He glanced at Nyx, there wasn’t a hint of fear in her eyes. Instead, beneath that was something else, something fierce and unrelenting.
’Shall we begin?’ she asked, the word echoing in his mind.
Finn took a steadying breath.
’Yeah, let’s begin.,’ he agreed.
As one, they charged into the fray, war cries tearing from their throats. The horde surged to meet them in a clash of steel and chitin.
Finn lost himself in the rhythm of battle, his sword flashing in the eerie light. Beside him, Nyx was a whirlwind of shadow and sharp edges, her rebar cracking carapaces with ruthless precision.
Though her level was the same as his, she fought with the skill of someone who had seen a thousand battles.
They fought back to back, covering each other’s blind spots, moving as if in a deadly dance. When a Crawler’s pincers came too close to Nyx’s flank, Finn was there, severing the limb with a desperate slash.
When another lunged for Finn’s throat, Nyx shattered its mandibles with a vicious strike.
Slowly, steadily, they whittled down the horde’s numbers. Black ichor slicked the cavern floor, making footing treacherous. Pain flared bright and hot as stray blows found gaps in their guard.
But still they fought on.
Finn’s sword arm burned, his breath coming in ragged gasps. His HP ticked down into the red, each point lost a jolt of cold fear. In the back of his mind, a timer seemed to count down.
At last, with a final, crunching strike, Nyx dispatched the final Crawler. It crumpled to the cavern floor and went still, greenish fluids oozing from its ruptured carapace.
[WAVE COMPLETE]
[Bonus Objective: Defeat 20 enemies within time limit - FAILED]
[SEVERAL ENTITIES DEFEATED: [Wave Crawlers] x 20

[Experience Gained.)] (Bond Share)]
[LEVEL UP!]
[Loot Acquired: Low-grade Crawler Chitin x6, Mucal Membrane x2]
In the sudden stillness, Finn could only stare, his chest heaving. They’d done it. Survived their first wave.
But the victory felt hollow. They hadn’t achieved the bonus objective, and they only managed to gain one level from defeating twenty.
’That’s fine, it’s only the first floor, we haven’t even reached the boss room yet. It’s a shame that I ended up taking so much damage from these mobs but it’s still progress.’
He picked up the loot and put it into his rucksack. When he looked up, he found Nyx watching him, curious smile on her face.
’Do you wish to turn back now or shall we head further into the dungeon?’
’Turning back isn’t an option, let’s go.’
With that, she turned and began picking her way towards the darkness, leaving Finn to follow in thoughtful silence.
