Others Summon Beasts, I Summon Yandere Wives
Chapter 19: The 2nd Floor (Part 1)
Nyx crossed over to him. She looked him up and down, taking in the blood, the trembling. "Bearer. Are you alright?"
He nodded, not quite trusting his voice yet. The full magnitude of what they’d just accomplished was still sinking in.
They had taken down the Broodmother two levels below the recommended threshold, just the two of them. He couldn’t believe it.
After a moment, he found his words. "That was..."
"Impressive. Very impressive indeed." Her head tilted. "Though I confess, you’ve a peculiar habit of hurling yourself into the jaws of things, Bearer. Tell me it isn’t a death wish."
Finn huffed a laugh. "Not a death wish. I just didn’t see what else I could do. None of my skills are built for combat. If we’re going to fight together, I have to use what I’ve got. Me."
She hummed thoughtfully. "Well. If you die, all of this is for nothing. Have a care." She paused for a moment. "But yes. That final blow was masterful."
Warmth bloomed in Finn’s chest at the praise. Coming from Nyx, that meant something.
He pushed himself fully upright, surveying the aftermath. The Broodmother’s corpse dominated the cavern’s center, a small mountain range of lifeless flesh.
Around them, the cavern shuddered, the stone groaning as some subterranean shuffle set the very ground to shivering.
The corpse of the Broodmother began to dissipate, its flesh sublimating into motes of sickly light that swirled up and away like a vile fog.
Finn quickly snatched up the loot left behind: Four glistening scales the size of dinner plates, still warm to the touch, and a wicked-looking dagger
[Acquired: Broodmother’s Fang]
[Grade: D]
[Rare chitin dagger, grants +3 Agility and inflicts Poison on critical hits.] .
"A D-grade already. Procs poison, too. We got lucky."
’Let me see that,’ Nyx sent through their bond.
He handed her the dagger and she turned it over in her hands, admiring the cruel serrations and discolored venom sacks worked into the hilt. Her smile turned contemplative.
’Potent. And fitting, given the nature of our foe.’ She met his eyes. ’You should have it.’
Finn blinked, taken aback. ’Me? I’ve got my shortsword. And your shadow step makes a dagger work twice as hard in your hands. It’d be wasted on me.’
’You struck the killing blow. And I would rather not see my Bearer wandering about with that crude little blade at his hip."
He pressed the dagger back into her palm. "Trust me. Our best shot is making you stronger. That’s the move."
Nyx swallowed past the sudden tightness in her throat. She seemed to contemplate for a moment before inclining her head.
"Very well. I am grateful, Bearer. I shall wield it well."
Finn slipped the dagger into his belt and cast a last look around the cavern. Already the corpse of the Broodmother had faded entirely, leaving only a charred patch of stone.
At the far end of the cavern, previously hidden by the Broodmother’s mass, a soft glow emanated.
As he watched, it pulsed gently, beckoning.
"Nyx. Look.."
She followed his gaze, crimson eyes narrowing. "I see it. Another crystal formation?"
Finn shook his head slowly. "I don’t think so. The color is different. And that pulsing... I’ve seen something like that before. In the beta."
He started forward, picking his way around the puddles of blood. Nyx fell into step beside him, dagger held at the ready. Together, they approached the light.
As they drew closer, the glow resolved into a distinct shape. An archway, nearly ten feet tall, carved directly into the cavern wall. Intricate symbols chased along its border, pulsing in time with the soft light spilling from beyond the threshold.
Finn’s breath caught. "It’s a portal. Has to be."
"A portal," Nyx repeated. "To where?"
"Deeper. Every dungeon in the beta had multiple floors. Each one worse than the last. Clearing the boss opens the way down."
He stepped closer, reaching out to trace one of the glowing sigils. At his touch, the light intensified, washing over him in a gentle wave..
"And so, Bearer? Do we descend?"
Finn glanced back at her. In the portal’s glow, her pale skin looked nearly translucent, the crimson of her eyes depthless.
He offered a nervous smile. "Honestly? We should turn back. I don’t know if we’re ready for floor two."
Nyx grinned in the pulsing light of the portal. "Turn back? After such a rousing victory? Perish the thought, Bearer. We have scarcely begun to test our mettle."
"You really love this, don’t you. The fighting."
"A vulgar way to phrase it." She lifted her chin. "But yes."
Finn huffed a laugh, shaking his head. It was a bad idea, but he couldn’t deny the thrill surging through his own veins.
They had come this far, pushed themselves beyond what he thought possible. What was one more floor, one more challenge?
"Alright. Let’s see what the second floor has."
"A wise decision indeed." Nyx agreed, crimson eyes gleaming.
As one, they stepped through the portal. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Light engulfed them, blinding in its intensity. Finn squeezed his eyes shut against the glare, vertigo swooping through his stomach as the ground seemed to fall away beneath his feet.
For a dizzying moment, he felt suspended, untethered, as if he had stepped off the edge of the world.
Then, as suddenly as it had come, the sensation passed. Solid stone pressed against his soles once more. Slowly, he opened his eyes.
The second level of the dungeon spread out before them, a vast cavern easily tripling the size of the first.
Towering pillars rose from uneven ground, their peaks lost in shadow high above. Channels of dark water ran between them.
But it was the bones that drew Finn’s eye and sent a chill chasing down his spine. They jutted from the cavern walls, from the islands of stone that broke the dark flow of the subterranean streams.
Rib cages taller than a man, curling horns wider than he could spread his arms. This had been a den of predators long before the Integration had warped the world.
Nyx drifted to his side. "Not the warmest of welcomes."
"No, and I’ll bet it’s going to get a lot less welcoming very soon."
As if summoned by his words, a low growl echoed through the cavern. It rolled across the dark waters.
In its wake rose an answering chorus of snarls and chitters.
[Bonefield Hunters — lvl 12, Pack Stalkers — lvl 15, Shadow Crawlers — lvl 14]
Red markers bloomed in Finn’s vision, hovering over the dark waters. Three. Five. Seven in total.
Finn swallowed hard. He clutched the shortsword tight, fighting the urge to retreat back through the portal. There was no telling if it would even let them pass in that direction.
They were committed now, for better or worse.
He glanced at Nyx and saw her gazing at the monsters with a smile.
’Is she actually enjoying this?’
’I hear you, Bearer.’
He winced. ’Sorry.’
Her dagger slid against stone as she raised it, crimson gaze fixed on the shadows between the bones.
"Well then, Bearer. How shall we have them?"
