On their fourth wedding anniversary, Chloe Reed asked Walker Grant for a divorce.

"Just because I spent our anniversary with my sister-in-law instead of you, you want a divorce?"

Walker Grant furrowed his brow in confusion. "Chloe, we’ve been in love for eight years."

Chloe hummed. "There are many reasons, but for now, this is the one."

The previous night, she had the housekeeper prepare a nice meal, bought fresh flowers and a gift, and was ready to spend a romantic anniversary evening with Walker Grant.

It had been their tradition for the four years of their marriage, celebrating every anniversary just like this.

Chloe had even changed into the new lingerie she’d bought for the occasion.

But just as she was taking it off, Walker Grant’s phone rang.

A woman’s crying came from the other end of the line.

Walker immediately stopped what he was doing, got out of bed, and went into the bathroom.

As the sound of running water started, Chloe lay on the bed, her skin flushed.

When Walker came out, she asked, "Do you have to go?"

Walker was already buttoning his shirt, his handsome, sharp-featured face looking grave. "Noah has a fever. I’m just going to go check on him. I’ll be back soon."

He left as soon as he said it, but Chloe never saw him come back that night.

She waited up until the early hours of the morning, when she got a text from Sunny Reed.

It was a picture of Walker Grant at the hospital, holding Noah Grant on a hospital bed. His expression was gentle and focused, as if he were looking at his own son.

Beneath the photo was a message from Sunny.

Sunny: "Sister, you should go to sleep. Walker is so worried about Noah. He treats Noah like his own son—maybe because he flew all the way abroad to be with me when I gave birth. He won’t be coming back tonight."

Chloe read the words over and over, her expression dazed and her eyes filled with disbelief.

’He was there for the birth?’

Years ago, after Walker’s older brother passed away suddenly, Sunny had left the country, saying she needed to heal from her grief. Not long after, she discovered she was pregnant and decided to stay abroad to have the baby.

She suddenly remembered that in the month Sunny was due, Walker had been on frequent business trips.

’So he was actually going to be with her for the birth?!’

Fat tears streamed down her face, splashing onto the phone screen. She squeezed her eyes shut in agony.

’So, he started taking care of Sunny and her son that long ago.’

No wonder he rushed over at a single phone call whenever Sunny needed anything.

His explanation to Chloe had always been: "Noah is my older brother’s only child. Now that my brother is gone, it’s my duty as his uncle to look after them. You understand that, right, Chloe?"

Chloe had always tried to convince herself that it was his brother’s flesh and blood, that it was only right for him to care for the boy.

But today, she suddenly couldn’t bear it anymore.

Chloe opened a drawer and pulled out a set of divorce papers.

Before she walked out the door, her eyes fell on their wedding photo on the wall. In the picture, her smile was so sweet.
