Chapter 10: Auntie Pinched Me
Noah Grant’s mother had put him in the car, saying she’d be back to get him in a little while.
But when he woke up, his mother still hadn’t appeared, so he got out to look for her himself.
However, the place was huge, and he couldn’t find his mother anywhere.
His lower lip began to tremble, and just as he was about to cry, two people appeared in front of him.
He looked up, recognized one of them, and mumbled, "Auntie."
Iris Yates nudged Chloe Reed’s arm with her elbow. "What should we do with him?"
Chloe Reed narrowed her eyes. She’d had a little too much to drink and wasn’t thinking clearly. She leaned down and gently pinched Noah Grant’s cheek. "What are you doing here?"
Tears instantly streamed down Noah Grant’s face. "WAH... Looking for Mommy."
"Hah... Then let him find her himself," Iris Yates scoffed. "If something happens to him, the Grants will never let Sunny Reed hear the end of it. I’d love to see how she explains her way out of that one." With that, she tried to pull Chloe Reed away.
But Chloe Reed didn’t budge.
Inside the bar, lights flashed and people milled about.
A three-year-old boy was a complete anomaly here.
Chloe Reed pressed her temples. "I’ll take you home first," she said. "You can have your nanny call your mother."
Iris Yates froze. "Chloe, what are you doing? This is a thankless job, you know?"
But Chloe Reed said, "I have my own feud with Sunny Reed, and I despise Walker Grant. But Noah Grant is only three years old. I can’t just stand by and watch a child be in danger. I just can’t do it."
She took Noah Grant’s little hand and headed for the bar’s exit.
"Hey, Chloe, listen to me. This is none of your business," Iris Yates tried to persuade her again. "Sunny Reed uses that kid to win Walker Grant’s sympathy, and it’s hurt you so much. Why are you still getting involved?"
But Chloe Reed simply continued walking outside.
However, she was drunk. As she reached the stairs at the entrance, her body swayed, her foot missed a step, and she fell right down.
She instinctively pulled Noah Grant into her embrace, protecting the child from getting hurt.
Iris Yates rushed over to help her up. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
Chloe Reed’s elbows and knees were aching, but it was nothing serious. She shook her head. "Call a designated driver. We’ve both been drinking."
Iris Yates gave her a helpless look. When the designated driver arrived, Iris asked, "So, where are we going?"
Chloe Reed glanced at Noah Grant, who was sitting beside her, and said, "The Grant Family Estate."
At those words, Iris Yates’s eyes lit up instantly.
"Brilliant! Taking the kid straight to the Grant Family Estate to file a complaint. Sunny Reed is going to be in for it!"
Chloe Reed looked at her. "Get home safe, and text me when you do."
"Okay, okay, don’t worry."
Iris Yates nodded eagerly, thinking that perhaps Chloe Reed wasn’t so foolish after all.
...
「Grant Family Estate.」
When Chloe Reed suddenly arrived with Noah Grant, the entire household was roused.
Madam Grant immediately swept Noah Grant into her arms, cooing, "My darling great-grandson." She asked, "What’s wrong? Why are you crying? Who bullied you? Tell Great-Grandma. Great-Grandma will teach her a lesson for you."
Noah Grant’s little lip trembled, and tears began to fall like pearls from a broken string.
Madam Grant’s gaze immediately fell upon Chloe Reed, her brow furrowed. "Was it you?" she demanded. "He’s only three years old. Why must you always pick on a child?"
Chloe Reed languidly lifted her eyelids. "I was having a drink at a bar when I saw him. He said he was looking for his mother. I was kind enough to bring him home. He hasn’t said a word, so how have you already concluded that I was the one who bullied him? Why don’t you stop and think about why I was the one to bring him back? Where is that so-called mother of his?"
The moment she finished speaking, Noah Grant suddenly burst into louder sobs. "WAHHH, it hurts... Auntie pinched me."
