Chapter 147: Chapter 147: He Explains to Her

His dark, deep eyes looked her up and down. Seeing the healthy color in her cheeks, some of the tension in his gaze faded.

They left the company and went to the coffee shop across the street.

Chloe Reed sat down and looked at him coolly. "Did you want something?"

A somber expression clouded Walker Grant’s handsome face. He reached up and pressed his temples. "Noah got lost last night," he said. "He got himself stuck in a playhouse and couldn’t get out. The playhouse was under repair, and the area was pitch-black. He fell asleep in there. I sent my men over, and it still took them a long time to find him."

Chloe Reed called a waiter over and ordered a coffee.

Walker Grant stared at her impassive face and continued, "Noah was terrified, so I took him back to Jardinelle last night."

At his words, Chloe Reed’s expression changed, but she quickly regained her composure.

She desperately told herself.

’I’m done with him. So I’m done with everything connected to him, too. That includes our marital home, the one that holds all our happy memories.’

’So what does it matter to me who he brings back there?’

’Even if he brought a dozen women home at once, that’s his business.’

Chloe Reed took a deep breath. Her coffee arrived just then, and she lifted the cup for a sip.

Walker Grant’s brow furrowed. "Chloe, I didn’t mean to break my word last night."

Chloe Reed set down her coffee cup, her expression perfectly calm. "Are you done?"

Her calmness was suffocating him.

He stared at her intently, searching for any flicker of emotion in her expression.

That would at least be a sign she still cared.

But there was none.

She finished her coffee and said, "If there’s nothing else, I’m going back to work."

Walker Grant lowered his gaze slightly, his voice deepening. "Chloe, I’m trying to explain."

"Yes, I heard you." Chloe Reed nodded.

Walker Grant looked up at her. "And you have nothing to say?"

Chloe Reed considered it for a moment. "Actually, I do."

Walker Grant watched her, waiting for her to continue.

She curved her lips into a smile. "In the future," she said, "don’t bother telling me about trivial things like this. It makes no difference to me whether I know or not."

With that, she stood up to leave.

But Walker Grant shot out a hand and grabbed her wrist. His grip was strong, making it impossible for her to leave.

Chloe Reed’s brows knitted together. "What do you think you’re doing?"

"You’re my wife. You have a right to know about these things, and I won’t hide them from you," Walker Grant said in a low voice. "And you shouldn’t be this calm."

"Isn’t it obvious?" Chloe Reed lowered her gaze to him. "I’ve told you so many times already. I don’t care about you anymore."

The grip on her wrist tightened, as if it would shatter her bones, yet she felt no pain.

The blue veins bulged on the back of his hand, and the air around him chilled. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

"You really don’t care?"

Chloe Reed nodded. "That’s right."

"Very good."

Walker Grant suddenly smirked. He stood up, cupped the back of her head, and kissed her.

Chloe Reed froze for a second before immediately wiping her lips with the back of her hand.

But Walker Grant said, "I thought you didn’t care. What do you call this, then?"

Chloe Reed’s expression turned frigid. "You’re an asshole, aren’t you?"

"What, did you just meet me today?" Walker Grant gazed at her. "Chloe, and I haven’t just met you, either. You care about me. You just won’t admit it."
