Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 153: Manipulation
Walker Grant’s brow furrowed. Looking at her pale expression, he took a moment before saying, "Your job is safe. As for everything else, I’ll compensate you in other ways. And I won’t take Noah away from you."
Sunny Reed looked at him and said, "Walker, I know you’re worried about Noah too, but I’m his mother. I’m even more worried about him. What happened last night was truly just an accident. How could I possibly abandon my own son on purpose? You’ve really misunderstood me."
Walker Grant grunted in acknowledgment. "I misunderstood you. My apologies. But, Sister-in-law, something like this can’t happen again. Noah is only three years old."
Sunny Reed hugged Noah Grant tightly and said, "Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of him."
After a pause, she asked pitifully, "Walker, is there really no way to get those sapphire earrings back? I’m willing to trade anything with my sister for them."
Walker Grant said, "I can trade with you, too."
Sunny Reed bit her lip and turned her face away. "Other than those sapphire earrings, there’s nothing else I particularly want."
The hospital room fell silent.
Walker Grant’s eyes darkened, and a chilling frost seemed to emanate from him.
...
After they left the hospital, Judith Pierce asked, "Chloe, have you and Walker made up?"
"No." Chloe Reed shook her head. "We can’t possibly make up."
Judith Pierce sighed softly and said, "I suppose you two were fated to meet, but not meant to be. But Walker is so stubborn—once he’s made up his mind about something, it’s hard to change it. He warned me not to interfere in your affairs, so there’s nothing I can do..."
Chloe Reed looked at her with clear, calm eyes. "Mom, you have to think of something. If Walker Grant and I keep getting tangled up like this, it won’t end well for either of us."
She just wanted a divorce, to draw a clear line between herself and Walker Grant. The farther away, the better.
She never wanted to think about those heartbreaking things again.
Seeing her resolve, Judith Pierce paused in thought for a moment before saying, "That Miss Adler is already Walker’s secretary. Chloe, I have an idea, but it’s not... a very nice one."
Chloe Reed said, "Let’s hear it first."
Judith Pierce then leaned in close and told her the idea.
Upon hearing it, Chloe Reed lowered her gaze slightly, her eyelashes trembling.
’Has it come to this?’
But it seemed she had no other choice.
Thinking back on everything Walker Grant had done to her, she felt she had already been quite merciful. Downright benevolent, even.
She took a deep breath and nodded. "Okay, I’ll do it." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Judith Pierce’s expression was complicated. "Have you thought this through?"
"Yes."
Chloe Reed’s lips twisted into a mocking smile. "I have to let him know how determined I am to get a divorce."
Judith Pierce said no more, simply turning and getting into her car before driving away.
Chloe Reed didn’t go back either. She hailed a cab and went home.
She had barely been inside for a moment, however, when the doorbell rang. She glanced back, her delicate brows furrowing.
’How did he catch up so quickly?’
She walked over, opened the door, and stepped right out, asking, "Is there something else?"
Walker Grant looked at her cold, delicate face and asked in a low voice, "Why didn’t you wait for me?"
Chloe Reed studied him for a moment, then suddenly reached out and caressed his face.
Walker Grant’s breath hitched. Emotions surged in his eyes, and he subconsciously took a step forward.
It had been a long time since she had treated him so tenderly.
Her sudden move sent a thrill through him that he couldn’t suppress.
