Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 166: I Want to Kill Them All
Chloe Reed was stunned. "Why? Did you get in trouble?"
Owen Sterling said, "...I don’t know either. I just got the email this morning."
He had already packed his things and was holding a large cardboard box, his expression complicated.
Chloe Reed lowered her gaze slightly, lost in thought for a moment as her fingers clenched into a fist.
’Walker Grant did this.’
He hadn’t interfered with her work, but he had interfered with someone else’s.
’Just wonderful!’
Chloe Reed took out her phone and dialed Walker Grant’s number.
After three rings, he answered. A deep, pleased male voice came through the line. "Chloe."
"My department manager was fired. Was that your doing?" Chloe Reed demanded, getting straight to the point.
Walker Grant’s tone was mild. "Chloe, are you questioning me over another man?"
Even though they were on the phone, she could still detect a hint of danger in his voice.
Chloe Reed suppressed her anger and said, "Don’t you think you’ve gone too far? He didn’t do anything wrong."
Hearing this, the man on the other end of the line chuckled lowly. "You had dinner together. He deliberately tried to get close to you. Isn’t that enough? Chloe, I’m not the generous type. I want to kill any man who gets close to you."
Chloe Reed sucked in a sharp breath and hung up.
’He’s completely insane!’
And now she was certain: Owen Sterling had been fired, and it was her fault.
After a moment’s thought, Chloe Reed dialed Judith Pierce’s number.
"Chloe, dear, what’s wrong?"
"Mom, I need you to help me find a job for a friend," Chloe Reed said, getting straight to the point.
Judith Pierce was puzzled. "Oh? What friend? What does he do?"
Chloe Reed explained who Owen Sterling was, adding that he’d been fired because Walker Grant had lost his mind.
At this, Judith Pierce fell silent for a moment before saying, "Chloe, since Walker has already made his decision, it’s not really my place to interfere..."
"Alright, then," Chloe Reed said, her tone deceptively yielding. "In that case, I’m thinking of taking Sunny Reed out to dinner tonight. I’ll invite Walker Grant to come along."
"Fine. I’ll take care of it."
Judith Pierce’s tone darkened. "Chloe, you’ve really gone too far, threatening me like this!"
Chloe Reed’s voice was filled with resignation. "Mom, my hands are tied. Your son is the one acting like a lunatic; shouldn’t you be the one to help clean up his mess?"
Judith Pierce: "..."
’What have I done to deserve this!’
She hung up in a fit of anger.
Chloe Reed returned to the office and said to Owen Sterling, "Someone will be in touch with you shortly. Don’t leave just yet."
Hearing this, Owen Sterling was astonished. "What did you do?"
He paused, then his brows knitted as he looked at her. "Wait a minute. Was I fired because of you?"
Chloe Reed’s eyes darted about guiltily.
Owen Sterling was rendered speechless. He let out a sigh and said, "Chloe Reed, I swear, I had absolutely no ulterior motives."
"I’m sorry."
Chloe Reed bowed her head in a sincere apology.
Owen Sterling felt like he’d been caught in the crossfire of a senseless disaster.
Soon enough, however, his phone rang. He gave Chloe Reed a complicated look before answering.
After a moment, he hung up and said, "I’ve been transferred to a branch office. I honestly don’t know whether to thank you or resent you."
Chloe Reed gave a wry smile. "You can do both. I don’t mind."
Owen Sterling: "..."
He still ended up leaving the voice-acting company.
As Chloe Reed turned her head, she saw Sunny Reed standing not far away, having taken in the entire scene.
"You seem awfully close with Manager Owen, sister."
Sunny Reed said with a smile, the words dripping with false praise.
Chloe Reed couldn’t be bothered to deal with her and went straight back to her office.
Sunny Reed raised an eyebrow slightly, then immediately sent an anonymous message to Walker Grant relaying what she had seen.
