Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 177: I Only Have Feelings for You
Walker’s expression was flat as he curled his thin lips. "What a coincidence."
Preston Vance felt his hostility. A biting chill spread through the air, and an inexplicable pressure settled over him.
Walker looked at Chloe, his tone softening. "Chloe, I’m hungry. Can I stay and eat with you?"
Chloe shot him an expressionless glance.
’Listen to him?’
’What a joke.’
He always treated her feelings, her words, like they were nothing.
She looked away, ignoring him.
Walker’s chest tightened. He couldn’t help but squeeze her fingers. "Chloe."
"Let go of me. I want to get some water," Chloe said, her tone icy.
Walker’s eyes darkened, but he let her go.
Preston Vance sat opposite them, taking in the dynamic between them.
’Their marriage doesn’t seem to be going well.’
The food arrived at the table. Walker had the waiter bring another place setting and also ordered more of Chloe’s favorite dishes.
The atmosphere at the table was tense and oppressive.
Preston Vance took a call, then looked at Chloe Reed apologetically. "I’m sorry, Miss Reed, but something’s come up and I have to leave."
Chloe shook her head. "It’s alright. Go take care of your business."
Preston Vance stood up, gave Walker a brief nod, and then turned to leave.
With him gone, Chloe couldn’t even be bothered to pretend anymore. Her words dripped with sarcasm. "What’s wrong? Not keeping your precious sister-in-law company anymore?"
Walker gazed at her with his dark, almond-shaped eyes and explained, "I was just helping my sister-in-law out. We’ve called it even for what happened before."
Chloe looked at him with a sarcastic smile. "Why bother? You’ve called it even with her, but what about Noah Grant? Can you just stop caring about him? They’re mother and son. They’re a package deal. You can never get away from them." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
She put down her chopsticks, wiped her mouth, and said, "Walker, if you could just straightforwardly admit that you’ve developed feelings for Sunny Reed, that you can’t bear to let her go, I might actually respect you a little more."
She stood up to leave.
But Walker held her down, trapping her in the chair.
"Chloe, can you stop talking nonsense?"
His handsome brows furrowed. "The only one I’ve ever had feelings for is you. It’s been eight years. Do I still need to prove that?"
Chloe looked at his handsome face and laughed self-deprecatingly. "It’s taken me eight years to finally see your heart. If you think about it, I’m the more laughable one here."
Hearing her words, a vein throbbed on Walker’s temple, and his hands tightened on the armrests of the chair.
"Have you really seen my heart?" he demanded in a low voice, an icy chill radiating from him.
Chloe’s long lashes trembled and she lowered her gaze. "Let’s just imagine. If I hadn’t pushed for a divorce, if I had just kept living with you like before, the things you hide from me probably wouldn’t just be going abroad to be with her while she gave birth, or getting a vasectomy. You would’ve just gotten more and more out of line."
She took a deep breath. She thought it wouldn’t hurt anymore, but just thinking about it still made her eyes sting.
"Walker, you stayed with her through her entire pregnancy and got a vasectomy for her child. After doing all that, you still have the nerve to say I’m the one in your heart? Don’t you find that ridiculous? Why on earth should I ever believe you again?"
Even though she tried her best to hold it in, her eyes still turned red. She had to take several deep breaths to suppress the overwhelming emotions.
He always said that after eight years together, they should be able to see into each other’s hearts.
But to this day, she still couldn’t see his.
