Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 206: The Reed Group Is Going Bankrupt
Charles Reed was still waiting for Chloe Reed to take the initiative and apologize.
But unexpectedly, Madam Grant’s trip to the hospital resolved nothing. In fact, the Grant Corporation’s targeted actions only grew more intense.
Banks were calling one after another to collect on their debts, and the stock price plummeted again and again.
Charles Reed was furious, his expression exceptionally grim. "These bastards!"
Autumn Linton, standing to the side, also looked pale. She stood up and said, "I’m going to find Chloe. What she’s doing is just too much!"
The bodyguards didn’t stop her as she left.
However, she couldn’t get into Chloe Reed’s hospital room.
Autumn Linton shouted toward the room, "Chloe, let me in. I need to talk to you."
The floor was very quiet, so Autumn Linton’s voice was exceptionally clear.
The two bodyguards frowned, never expecting she would actually start shouting and making a scene.
One of the bodyguards immediately called Walker Grant.
Autumn Linton continued to shout toward the room. "Chloe, can’t we just talk things over nicely as a family? Why won’t you see me and your father? We’re your family, after all! How can you be so unreasonable?"
Chloe Reed was playing a match-3 game on her phone. The wound on her back no longer hurt at all, and it was faintly beginning to itch.
Listening to the voice outside the room, she failed the level.
She put down her phone, stood up, and walked over.
Through the glass, mother and daughter’s eyes met.
Autumn Linton’s eyes lit up, and she immediately took a step forward. "Chloe, let Mom in. Mom needs to talk to you."
Chloe Reed didn’t speak, only looked at her with a detached expression.
Autumn Linton felt her daughter’s gaze was unfamiliar, distant.
Her daughter had relied on her since she was little, telling her everything. She would even run up to her in a pretty new dress, looking for praise.
But at some point, Chloe Reed had stopped sharing her life and her feelings with her.
The distance between them grew wider and wider.
And at this moment, an inexplicable panic bloomed in Autumn Linton’s heart. She felt this daughter of hers drifting further and further away, so far that... she was about to lose her.
But she quickly dismissed the thought.
’Impossible.’
’That was her daughter, the child she had carried for ten months and spoiled since birth. How could she possibly lose her?’
’They just had a few misunderstandings. Everything would be fine once they were resolved.’
Autumn Linton suppressed the panic and unease in her heart, forcing a gentle tone. "Chloe, please let Mom in, okay?"
Chloe Reed opened the hospital room door and walked out to stand before Autumn Linton.
Seeing this, the bodyguard was taken aback for a moment. "Ma’am, Mr. Grant said..."
But before he could finish, he saw Chloe Reed suddenly raise her hand and gently stroke Autumn Linton’s hair.
Autumn Linton’s heart instantly softened. She grabbed Chloe Reed’s hand. "Chloe, is your injury any better? Does it still hurt? Let Mom come in, just so I can take a look, okay?"
But Chloe Reed pulled her hand back and returned to her room, her expression blank.
The hospital room door closed again, and Autumn Linton stood frozen.
’What... What did that mean?’
The other bodyguard hung up the phone, walked back over, and said with a deadpan expression, "Mrs. Reed, if you don’t leave now, the next people to call on the Reed Group will be from the Administration for Industry and Commerce."
Autumn Linton was startled, and her heart sank even further. She didn’t linger, but went back to tell Charles Reed what had happened.
Charles Reed’s face turned ashen with rage, his hands clenched into fists.
’Walker Grant is forcing me to apologize to Chloe Reed!’
’If I don’t apologize soon, the Reed Group might really be finished.’
The outside world was rife with wild rumors and all sorts of speculation, but Walker Grant didn’t care in the slightest.
