She balled her hands into fists and struggled hard, her desire to get away from him obvious.

Walker Grant’s breathing grew heavier, his dark, piercing eyes fixed on her. "But it looks so good on you."

"I said I don’t like it anymore. Can’t you understand?"

"I don’t."

Walker Grant gave a sharp pull, yanking her in front of him. A dark glint flashed in his eyes. "You used to love this brand. You said that whenever they released a new design, you had to have it. I’ve always remembered that."

’Just like how she once said she loved him. He remembered that, too.’

’He had never forgotten a single word she’d said.’

’But now she was saying she didn’t like it anymore.’

’How could she just decide she didn’t like it anymore?’

’He wouldn’t allow it.’

The atmosphere in the car froze. His stare was suffocating, but she didn’t feel as uncomfortable as one might expect.

He suddenly reached out and pressed a button, raising the privacy partition.

The back seat suddenly felt more confined.

Walker Grant’s tone softened slightly. "Chloe, people can’t change that fast."

A pang of bitterness shot through Chloe Reed’s heart, and her fingers clenched into tight fists. "I should be the one saying that to you. You’re the one who changed first."

"I haven’t changed."

Walker Grant said in a low voice, "I’ve explained it to you so many times. I’m not in love with someone else."

Chloe Reed took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a moment. "If Sunny Reed and I were kidnapped and you could only save one of us, who would you choose?"

"That kind of hypothetical is meaningless." But Walker Grant dodged her question. "You would never be in danger."

"See? You aren’t even willing to lie to placate me." Chloe Reed looked at him mockingly. "I know something like that would never happen, and I’d never let myself fall into such a trap. But I wanted to hear you say you’d choose me, not give me some vague, non-committal answer. That’s not what I wanted."

Walker Grant stared at her, his gaze heavy. "Fine. Then I’ll tell you. I would choose you."

"What’s the point?" Chloe Reed frowned. "What’s the point of you just repeating the answer I fed you?"

Walker Grant fell silent.

’No matter what he said, she wasn’t satisfied.’

The tension between them was back to a freezing point.

"Let go."

Chloe Reed lowered her gaze, refusing to look at him.

Walker Grant refused to let go. He was still holding the bracelet, trying to put it on her.

This time, Chloe Reed didn’t struggle.

Once the bracelet was on her wrist, she asked, "Can you let go now?"

Her skin was fair and her wrist delicate; the purple diamond bracelet looked stunning on her.

He released her hand. "Chloe, that scenario will never happen. And I won’t pay so much attention to Noah anymore. I’ll put my focus on us."

Chloe Reed didn’t answer him. She just lowered her hand and looked out the window.

The car soon arrived at their destination.

Night had completely fallen.

Chloe Reed followed him into a private dining room and immediately saw Charles Reed and Autumn Linton.

Her brows furrowed slightly, and she turned to leave.

Walker Grant grabbed her arm. "They’re here to apologize to you. You don’t have to go."

Chloe Reed was stunned. ’Did I hear that right?’

’Charles Reed was actually going to apologize to her?’

’Still, she was rather curious to hear how he would apologize.’

’Getting a man who was always so arrogant, chauvinistic, and obsessed with his pride to bow his head was no small feat.’

Chloe Reed turned back, pulled out a chair, and sat down.

Autumn Linton stepped forward, a gentle expression on her face. "Chloe, have your injuries healed?"

Chloe Reed replied flatly, "They’re fine."
