"..."
Chloe Reed lay on her side, as if all her strength had been drained away.
She was indeed exhausted. She closed her eyes, feeling drowsy and weak. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
「At the hospital.」
Sunny Reed hadn’t been able to leave, and she was growing anxious. Walker Grant had forced Charles Reed to apologize to Chloe Reed. Because of this, the relationship between the father and daughter would only become more strained.
’What a shame I can’t be there to see such a good show.’
Sunny Reed grabbed her phone and called Charles Reed to ask about the situation.
Charles Reed’s voice was heavy with exhaustion. He said, "Sunny, your mother had a heart attack. She’s in the hospital now."
"What!" Sunny Reed feigned surprise, a strange light flickering in her eyes. But her voice was full of concern. "How could this happen? Dad, what on earth happened tonight?"
Charles Reed explained, "Your sister said she’s severing ties with the family. Your mother couldn’t take it, and it triggered her condition."
Sunny Reed bit her lip. "How could sister say that? Isn’t she just breaking Mom’s heart? Which hospital are you at? I’ll come see you now."
Charles Reed said, "No, it’s alright. You should get some rest. Your mother just fell asleep, so let’s not disturb her."
"Okay, I’ll come over tomorrow then." Sunny Reed replied obediently before hanging up the phone.
The hospital room was pitch black. She stared out the window, a triumphant smile spreading across her face.
...
「The next day.」
After washing up, Chloe Reed left her home and went straight to the Grant Group.
Miravox Voice Acting had become a department within the Grant Group, so its offices had been relocated.
As Chloe Reed stepped out of the elevator, she saw Kyle Coleman walking past.
"Mr. Coleman."
Chloe Reed walked over and greeted him.
Kyle Coleman gave her a complicated look and said, "You’re able to come back to work?"
"Yes." Chloe Reed nodded. "I’m ready to start."
Kyle Coleman nodded. "Alright, then let’s go. We’re about to have a meeting."
The project team gathered for the meeting, but just as it began, the conference room doors opened and Walker Grant walked in.
Kyle Coleman’s expression faltered, and a deep sense of helplessness flashed in his eyes.
He was beginning to wonder what Walker Grant’s real reason for acquiring the voice acting company was!
’It must have been to make it easier to see Chloe Reed!’
’How utterly ridiculous.’
Everyone turned to look at Walker Grant, assuming he had come to give instructions. Chloe Reed, however, furrowed her brow. ’What’s wrong with him?’
Walker Grant said in a mild tone, "Carry on. I’m just here to observe."
Then, he pulled out a chair at the end of the table, sat down, and actually began to observe.
Kyle Coleman tapped the table. "Let’s continue our previous topic. These few characters..."
Although Walker Grant didn’t say a word, his presence was overwhelming. With him there, everyone felt as if a sharp, cold sword was hanging over their heads, making them incredibly tense.
Yet, the meeting was surprisingly productive, much to Kyle Coleman’s surprise.
"Alright, take a half-hour break. Then we’ll head to the recording studio." With a wave of his hand, everyone began to file out.
Chloe Reed picked up her script and also got up to leave, but as she passed Walker Grant, he stopped her.
She looked down at him. "Is there something you need?"
"I came to check on your injury," Walker Grant said calmly, his dark, phoenix-like eyes fixed on her.
Chloe Reed’s brow immediately furrowed. "I’m fine now. You don’t need to check."
’Besides, this is the conference room,’ she thought. ’There are security cameras in here!’
