Ivy Vance suppressed her anger and scoffed. "You’re just relying on Walker Grant. Without him, what are you?"

Chloe Reed watched her coolly. "Well, do you have any ideas on how to get him to leave me alone? I’m sick of him."

Ivy Vance: "..."

’This is infuriating!’

Preston Vance spoke up then. "That’s enough. Come with me."

Ivy Vance shot Chloe Reed a venomous glare before turning to leave.

Chloe Reed returned to the office and spent another two hours in the recording studio. By the time she emerged, the sky had already grown dark.

Someone was sitting at her desk.

Her expression soured. She stopped several feet away, not moving any closer.

"Working late again? Are you hungry?"

Walker Grant put his phone away, stood up, and walked toward her.

"Don’t come any closer!"

Chloe Reed backed away, her eyes filled with wariness and suspicion.

It was like a sharp dagger plunging straight into Walker Grant’s heart.

He stopped in his tracks, his dark, intense eyes fixed on her.

"Chloe, are you avoiding me?"

"Shouldn’t I be avoiding you?" Chloe Reed was on high alert. "You never care what I think. You even have such horrifying thoughts... I wish you would just disappear completely!"

But Walker Grant just let out a low chuckle. "I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you, then."

He strode toward her.

Chloe Reed’s scalp prickled with fear. She circled the office desk, preventing him from getting close to her.

Her movement seemed to infuriate him.

Walker Grant stood opposite her, his gaze landing on the desk. He wondered if it would be easier to just kick it over.

"You can’t escape, Chloe." Walker Grant advanced on her slowly. "Why waste your energy?"

Cold sweat slicked Chloe Reed’s palms, and her heart seized. She had no idea how to get out of this situation.

"Walker Grant, I’m exhausted. I want to go home and get some rest. Can you please stop pestering me?" Chloe Reed’s tone softened slightly.

’She always lost out when she went head-to-head with him.’

"I’ll take you home," Walker Grant said.

Chloe Reed desperately wanted to refuse, but when the words were on the tip of her tongue, she simply nodded. "Okay."

This time, she wouldn’t avoid him.

’As long as he didn’t lose his mind and do anything to forcibly hurt her, she would just play along.’

’Once she moved, everything would be fine.’

Once they were in the elevator, the space felt suffocating. His scent drifted over, wrapping around her, all-pervasive.

Walker Grant could tell how tense she was at a glance. She was still wary of him.

His sharp brows furrowed. ’We’re husband and wife, so how did we end up like this?’

He reached over, wanting to take her hand.

But as if anticipating his move, Chloe Reed reached into her pocket, pulled out her phone, and started replying to a message.

Her movement was too deliberate. Walker Grant stared at her, displeasure darkening his eyes.

But he didn’t force the issue, simply standing beside her.

Chloe Reed had, in fact, just received a message.

It was from Owen Sterling.

The two of them hadn’t spoken since Judith Pierce had him transferred to another company.

So she was a little surprised to hear from him so suddenly.

Owen Sterling: [Chloe Reed, how have you been lately?]

She thought it was a bit strange but replied politely nonetheless.

Chloe Reed: [I’m doing well.]

Owen Sterling: [I’ve been running into a lot of trouble lately. I suspect Mr. Grant is behind it. Is he still misunderstanding our relationship?]

Chloe Reed’s brow furrowed as she read the message.

’Walker Grant is still targeting Owen Sterling?’
